We joined the Spanish class several years ago. Lynne, our teacher, is extremely supportive whilst ensuring that we make good progress. It’s a fun environment but we all are doing our best to improve.

I have taken the Italian for beginners class for the last year with Melodie. She has been an excellent teacher, the course is very well paced and is suitable for all, wishing to learn Italian.

As well as the weekly lessons there are various other activities, including film and cooking. I would certainly recommend.

Nina has made the German classes so very enjoyable over the last few years. We looked forward to our weekly lessons which Nina made educational as well as learning about some German culture. We’d highly recommend the MLS in Honley and Nina for anyone wanting to learn German.

Classes are always stimulating and enjoyable. Teaching is of the highest standard. The atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming.

About to start my 3rd year. It's been great have attended lessons, films, extra classes even food events. I'm learning the language and culture. A really enjoyable experience. Lots of learning and lots of laughs.

I’ve just finished my second year of Spanish and will be signing up for a third. Interesting and varied lessons and a skilful approach that includes different levels and styles of learning. In particular, Joan is such a warm, encouraging and enthusiastic teacher.

Brilliant language school, brilliant teachers, lots of flexibility and great fun with great people. I’ve just signed up for year 4 and can’t believe how the time has flown and how much I’ve learnt from scratch. We learn in many different and fun ways which would appeal to all learning preferences and when you can’t make class you can join virtually or even attend a different class if you want to. Highly recommend

Just finished my year of Advanced French. It’s been brilliant.

Great teacher, Melodie, and friendly classmates. The lessons strike the perfect balance of being stretching but fun. I’ve also learned much about French art, literature, history and geography, as we cover different themes every week.

Looking forward to restarting in September.

I’ve just finished my first year learning French and I’ve loved every minute. Melodie is fantastic and makes the lessons so much fun it becomes really easy to learn. I’ve learnt so much already and can’t wait to start again in September. The group is lovely and it’s a really safe environment to learn in. Highly recommend anyone who wants to learn (I last studied French in school in 1986!)

I have taken the Italian for beginners class for the last year. Melodie is an excellent teacher and goes at a suitable pace for a range of abilities. It has been more than 40 years since I studied any languages but I found it very enjoyable and even managed the odd Italian phrase on holiday this summer. So good I’m going to continue next year.

Everyone learns at their own pace, so no pressure! We have experienced all types of learning - Visual, listening, writing & speech. Thoroughly enjoyed our first year beginners course in Italian, and now signed up for the next accademic year, starting in September ... Grazie

Friendly accommodating and confidence giving. Well planned inclusive lessons

Started Italian lessons at MLS in January 2024 and have really enjoyed the process - the big upside is the learning atmosphere. The only attendees are folks who want to actually learn & progress with a language, unlike remembrance of school days !

The school year has a number of enjoyable side events such as occasional Cinema Clubs and all-day language/cultural immersion led by the teachers and an external native speaker.

Thoroughly recommended. Distance is no object as MLS has modern IT & audiovisual facilities and students can participate online if needed.

A great way to enjoy learning a language ,interesting and fun activities in class ,meeting new like minded students.Having the confidence to use that language on holiday or work abroad .The advantage of a summer school, to avoid losing the language learned.would absolutely recommend this language school and its teachers

Great language school. Super friendly and easy to get into. I studied Spanish and found the instructor Joan was really great. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Super encouraging. I really enjoyed my time at The Modern Language School and would highly recommend it.

I started learning Italian at the school at beginner’s level in September 2020. It’s been a highly enjoyable experience. Classes cover a range of fundamental aspects of the language using engaging, interactive and stimulating approaches. Teachers are experienced, supportive and make learning a pleasure. It’s a great environment in which to develop a new life skill!
