1 star because the site will not let me…

1 star because the site will not let me leave less. For over 2 years I have sent in and called, even sent the correspondence certified mail about the loan being discharged by the federal government due to misleading information and claims by the school. They refuse to acknowledge this and keep directing me to the DOE. Funny thing is DOE states Mohela has all the required information to forgive the loans and that no action is needed in their part. They lie and mislead people just to tack on interest.

All they do is transfer you to resolutions who might call you back in 2 or 3 weeks. I saw they were sued in California do these very actions. How is this still allowed to exist and handle government funding.

I can never get an actual person on the phone. Meanwhile my documents uploaded are not being reviewed and they are screwing my perfect credit. This is the only company that has been the absolute worst to try and deal with. They have the power to ruin our credit but they can't actually get on the phone and help someone without a computer doing it. It's like a black hole of death that can take a persons life without any effort and blame it on us though we tried our best to work with them. Absolutely awful.

My loans keep going into forbearance

My loans keep going into forbearance so none of myvpayments are counting towards PSLF. I keep getting the loans out of forbearance, making payments and then Mohela puts them back in forebearance.

Handling of overpayment

They have held my overpayment made last September 2025 with no resolution. I have called 3 times and emailed 3 times. All communication ended with them giving me a timeline and date the redistribution would occur and as of today this still has not occurred. They promised an "expedited review." When I complained an additional month and another billing cycle did not meet my expectations or definition of "expedited," They then sent a communication that they process redistributions in the order received...they received my request 6 months ago! Its ridiculous. I am nearing the end of my loans and will have no outstanding balance to redistribute this overpayment to soon. I guess I just have to believe at this point they have no intention of giving me back my money.

Failed to process my IDR Recertification Application(s) for over a year. I now have about a year's worth of buyback months for PSLF because of this standstill I've been in. Going on my 2nd escalation to attempt to get this remedied. Working with my local representative. Filing complaints! Studentaid.gov and the Deoartment of Ed is 100% to blame as well.

I was locked out of m account

I was locked out of m account, told it didn't exist. Then I was old I had to make a new account since my loans were transferred from Navient. That didn't work either. I finally got to talk to an agent who said my old account did exist and I was in the wrong website. He was rude and confusing. At this rate, this outfit isn't going to last.

Take your money somewhere else.

I would never do business with this company or recommend anyone do business with them. They don't offer good will credit reporting so a 50$ missed payment due to not having auto pay set up lowered my credit almost 100 points and they won't do anything to fix it even after I was all paid up. Take your money somewhere else.

Evil Loan Shark Company

This company is like a loan shark. I have incorrect payment records and charges on my account. They never processed by IDR applications on time, costing me lots of money. I am too nervous to pay my loan off because they have many unexplained discrepancies in my student loan balance, which makes me nervous the money will not be correctly counted. I have had tremendous difficulty getting in touch with the company including hours and hours of hold time (many times 7+ hours), messages not responded to, or responded to in an incredibly confusing and incomplete way. This is actually the most terrible company I have ever done business with in my life. It has caused tremendous stress on my life and have no clue what to do because I have tried everything. I think my only option now is to hire an attorney. I can't believe our government supports this terrible company.

MOHELA, The worst Student Loan Servicer

If I could give this student loan servicer zero stars, then I most definitely would. They have not been handling my student loans properly. They state one time, I owed like a certain amount and was only required to pay $62.25 per month, and then they tried to say, I would pay a hundred dollars and then like $245 apx. payments. Now they have been claiming me to be required to pay $477.00 per month. I don't think so Mohela. Sorry, but I am not rich, by any means. I am not a millionaire. I work in Nursing and I may not be a Nurse, but a CNA/QMA and also I am a CphT (Nationally Certified, Licensed and also a registered Pharmacy Technician.) It is not right to charge hard working people the way they have been and I am in the whole Public Service Loan Forgiveness, but they want a person to pay what they claim however many payments, until your debt is like thousands and thousands of dollars less. What was even the whole point of applying for Public Service Loan Forgiveness? I mean my employer is one that is recognized as one who is acceptable for the whole PSL forgiveness program, so why am I not able to get a much lower payment, as I have requested numerous time. The customer service is a joke there too. One is either on hold for a really long time, which I get it they're busy as is everyone else in the world, but really? Then when you do get a person on the line, they claim they will fix an issue, but never do. Lol! All I know is I have been looking for an attorney pro bono or free legal aide to assist me with this issue. The Department of Education needs to really assist us lower income people, who work in the public service industry. I mean really. Currently at least I am on forbearance, but that is about to end once again. The interest just accrues, but I don't know what else to do? I can't file bankruptcy so.. Oh well. Moheal lies and they lie about my PSL payments I have made too. They only accept what they want to accept. I have made payments of different amounts. They need to all be accepted, and not just some of them. Ibelieve I filed a complaint on BBB, but Mohela of course is not BBB accredited. Imagine that! I used to have Navient Student Loans and then Aid-Vantage and they were terrible too.

This is the worst loan company I’ve…

This is the worst loan company I’ve ever dealt with. Borrowing money from them is like walking straight into hell.
They have no proper record of my payments, and it’s nearly impossible to get in touch with customer service. Even when I send emails, I don’t get a response for months. When I file a complaint, all I hear is that it’s “being worked on”—but months go by with no update, while the interest on my loan keeps piling up.
This has been the worst experience of my life. Avoid this company at all costs.

Poor Form All The Way Around

I waited 2 hours for an Advanced Agent bc regular customer could not handle the request for a simple refund. The Advanced agent named Rick had little personality with no apology that I waited 2 hours when the automated system said my wait time would be 50 minutes which is horrendous enough. I called yesterday as well for an Advanced agent and was told the wait time was 1 hour and 15 minutes. I was getting ready for work so could not wait that whole time. When I asked Rick pointed questions he appeared to be unsure and I am not convinced at all he gave me correct info. It was like speaking with a bot. He had to put me on hold to process my request and seemed agitated that he was required to check in with me every 2 minutes while I had to hold.

You also are not given the option for a manager, supervisor or advanced agent to call you back via the automated. I asked Rick if we got disconnected after waiting 2 hours, can he call me back. He said no, you have to call in again and wait however long you have to wait. UNACCEPTABLE. Then I asked why he could not call me back when the other day I spoke with a manager named Lena who called me about my questions after customer service left her a message. He just repeated the same mantra. Lena was very good and very knowledgable so that was appreciated.

Overall poor service, lackluster personalities, lack of adequate training, hold times that are NOT ACCEPTABLE (and I suspect are long on purpose) and very poor form in delivering proper and informed customer service.

If you have a choice, steer clear of these guys.

Yeah, look at the other reviews. These guys are terrible. I can't believe my Federal loaned was automatically sent to this company who doesn't even possess a BBB accreditation. I later refinanced to a private loan and there was a $1500 discrepancy (meaning increase) on my balance upon the transfer. It has now been 5 months since then and I am told it will be another 6 months before I receive my refund. This doesn't include the increased interest I have been paying on an incorrect balance. However, the hours I have spent on hold to speak with nearly incompetent employees will never be refunded. The lack of care and concern my the "specialized" staff is preposterous. If you have a choice, steer clear of these guys.

MOHELA is the worst!!!!! I paid off a loan for $844.00 for a specific loan in 04-2025. They reversed the loan payment I paid one year ago and now they are saying I owe them again on a loan that I paid off one year ago.
