Excellent!

Ian the technician from Mr Rooter was great! The entire experience from setting up the appointment to the actual work being done even on a Saturday was excellent. I would highly recommend them.

Much too expensive

Charging $325 to clean a drain that was unclogged in the interim is outrageous. This happened to me on April 29, 2023 in Montgomery, TX. Also, the scheduled appointment has been rescheduled several times. I will certainly never hire Mr. Rooter to do a job again. I would rather wait days for a decent plumber.

Outrageously expensive in my opinion

Technician was polite. Service was outrageously expensive. Toilet replacement not the quality of one taken out and too low for a senior citizen. $1400. To take a small amount of hair from drain, purchase and install new toilet, and camera the sewer line as far as he could reach but not completely because he couldn’t find the way in to the rest of the line.

Never again

1. Didn't show up at scheduled time. Didn't notify us until after the due time. Got rescheduled to next day.
2. Showed up, gave quote, I asked them to do the work (rooter the sewer line and video it for home sale). Had to pull the toilet to get access. Didn't have flash drive for recording so disappeared for an hour to get flash drive. Video machine wouldn't work. Spent hours trying to charge batteries and no go. Scheduled next day to return with good camera.
3. Returned next day with good camera, took video and gave us copy. Replaced toilet. Didn't caulk it.
4. Sent someone else the next day to caulk the toilet. Did the crappiest job I've ever seen. Will have to do it myself to fix it.

Be Warned !!

AVOID at all costs !!!

Be very careful when dealing with this company.

All of their employees work on some type or form of sales commission. If they tell you that they are NOT on a commission scale….they are lying to you. Period!

I have never heard of a plumber being on a commission scale, but Mr. Rooter is one of them.

If you get 3 different employees in your home from this company for a repair or install…..you will get 3 totally different quotes and none of them are even close to the other quotes. (this includes parts & labor)

One of their employees quoted me over $400 to stick a camera down our sewer line that is less than 50 feet long. A recording is even more money.

You are charged…..based soley on how desperate & upset you are with your plumbing problems and they will have a huge smile from one ear to the other !! 😃

I learned a very valuable lesson….NOT to do any future business with this company.

Scarborough

Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. Mr. Rooter Plumbing was fantastic. Called them and got an appointment within minutes. We had a basement shower with water with dirt back up and our basement toilet was not working. I tried to clear but no luck; so I called Mr, Rooter Plumbing. Omid arrived as per the appointment time and he was the Supervisor, he checked for blockages with a snake and a radar devise to read through the floor which had a Monitor to see under ground, it found a broken cast iron pipe under our bathroom, Omid walked through the steps and costing for services, Omid mentioned the estimate for the first phase and he mentioned because of the age of the home built in 1963 there could be more damaged and costs for pipe replacement; Omid mentioned to contact our insurance for this because it might be covered- which part of this was, we had to jack hammer holes in our basement then they tunnel to street at the end our insurance covered $10,000 plus extra monies for Tear down replacing the flooring and cabinets which had to be removed. . Omid was fantastic a service professional. He answered all my questions and provided simple and sound advice. The work took less than a week to do all plumbing repairs the other work non plumbing to be done at a later date. My advise with older homes make sure your insurance policy covers plumbing underground, Sewer back up etc.

The biggest mistake I made was not…

The biggest mistake I made was not checking out the reviews posted here on Trustpilot before contacting Mr Rooter here in St Louis. I had 2 things needing attention. The 1st issue was a toilet shutoff valve was leaking. He replaced the rigid connector with a flexible supply line between the shutoff valve & the toilet. On the invoice he assigned it task # F4830-Minor toilet rebuild $157.50.
The 2nd thing he did was replace the shower cartridge in our master shower. Task # assigned was CTR_SWR for $478.59. He said the Hansgrohe merchandise was very expensive & he assured me several times that because it was so expensive, he would not charge me any labor on this. I looked at the Hansgrohe shower cartridges on Amazon after he left and the price of them ranged from $30 to $130.
There was a $59 non-refundable upfront charge that would be applied toward the job if I made the decision to proceed while he was here. I decided to have him do the work, not only because of losing the $59 but because I couldn't think of a plan of how to get an estimate from another company before having another plumbing company come out, & then having to shell out more non-refundable upfront charges to them. The other thing I noticed was on the invoice I was emailed after he was gone. It said the $478.59 included 1 hour of labor.
To top it all off, he said to me as he was leaving, "Oh, by the way, your shower head connection is leaking. You might want to pick up a new shower hose at Home Depot. I ordered it on Amazon "hansgrohe Techniflex Handheld Shower Replacement Shower Hose 63-inch Easy Install Modern Shower Hose in Brushed Nickel, 28276823" for $38.14".
The next time I need a plumber, I know who I won't be calling. I also know that I will be checking the reviews here on Trustpilot when I need another plumber, before I call him.

Called rotorooter on Monday tech came out quoted for a clogged sink then proceeded to break my cap and stated they couldn’t fix it that I’d have to have a camera run from outside possible have my yard dig up $60 to $80 thousand I said no not paying that said they would charge me 400 for a camera would take that off repair price and would be back Tuesday I called at 6 pm they says they would be out that night called again wed stated they Would have a supervisor get a hold of me to find out what happened and get somebody out from my league would have a supervisor get a hold of me to find out what happened and get somebody out for my leak it’s now Thursday at 8:30 and I have not heard from them. Thankfully I called another plumber today. They came out and found the source of the leak and it was not what they were talking about and it’s fixed for way less. Their customer service is awful, as well as any type of service I would not recommend them for nothing.

Update on Prior Review

Update. LOSERS. I’m considering suing them for deceptive trade practices. They did not know what they were talking about when they showed up with their tech and dummy. They attempted to charge me 1100 for leak detection, but agreed on roughly 550 to find the leak. They claimed they knew EXACTLY where the leak was. WRONG. 22,000 quoted which wouldn’t have fixed anything. Mr. Rooter should be shut down. The repair was not where they claimed it was. Not even close. $600 later with a master plumber, repair completed. Do NOT trust Mr. Rooter and their “$64 inspect fee.” They work off flat fee to inure to their own benefit, not yours. Total bait and switch. Believe the reviews.

Not recommended

Not recommended. This company has a low fee for an individual not qualified to do anything other than to appear and briefly assess the situation only to call in another to assist. At least that was my experience. They operate on a FLAT FEE basis, not hourly, meaning you are at risk.

Following their assessment about a small leak in a main line (158') long, and charging me around $550.00 for that assessment (notably, with no equipment to actually locate the leak as they had none and completed within one hour), they went back to their trucks (always a bad sign) only to return and show me a $21,500.00 proposal to literally dig up the old line and replace with with a new one. The actual line only costs around $400.00. I simply said no and asked that they leave.

Had I known they only operate on a FLAT FEE basis, I would have never contacted them in the first place. Their hourly rate was between 250-350/hour for the 2 individuals, hardly what the average plumber charges. Of note, master plumbers don't even charge that.

Not recommended. Never recommending. Very offended. $21,833.33 for a new line, literally, when all they had to do was locate the issue and repair it on spot. That, or check end to end - with a new line since they were only able to eyeball it. I have now hired a master plumber and will update once I receive his bill for the total repair - out of fairness to the situation.

Don't fall for the 24/7 - no additional charge. Their FLAT RATE will be excessive IMO.

We had a completely blocked kitchen…

We had a completely blocked kitchen sink. Two technicians showed up, convinced us that a Hyfro-scrub was much better than just snaking the blockage - we agreed and was given the estimate of $800.00 plus, but with us not knowing exactly what was involved.
In hindsight though, they were here less than one hour. Even if they make $50.00/hour for labor, what is the other $700.00 for ??? There is no product involved or utilized, just our water and our electricity. Therefore we feel we were ripped off. By the way, we are retired people in our 70's and 80's. For sure, if there is another need for this kind of service we will look elsewhere.

Scam. Break your stuff and make YOU pay.

Had them come to install a water heater from Home Depot. While Truck #10 was at my house working, he broke a water pipe getting the new water heater in. Charged me double the quote for something he broke.
SCUM BAG company. Stay away, or use at your own risk.

We called to have a dishwasher hooked…

We called to have a dishwasher hooked up, Home Depot had left the new washer out of the box next to the cabinet, and old one removed. Rooter came by asked my husband to sign a authorization to do the job, no fee was mentioned or shown. After 45 min. the job was done and the bill was $765.00. We were shocked, what a scum bag company, the fee was never disclosed. How can they keep on ripping people off like that.

I had a most complicated case of…

I had a most complicated case of previous homeowner connecting 2 90's to my septic from kitchen to bath. Could not snake clearance for drainage. With locators, they were able to determine where the problem was. It meant jack hammering through my flagstone floor and digging over 4 feet deep to find the pipe and removing the 90s and sloping correctly to the septic.

I cannot tell you enough nor recommend enough to use Mr. Rooter. Tyson, Chris, Beverly, you all were amazing. The attention and care taken to so ever professionally and methodically to correct the problem were well above the quality of ANY other company in this area. I appreciated the thorough, detailed clean up. Don't think twice of who to call when you have a plumbing issue!

The job involved replacing two toilets…

The job involved replacing two toilets that were removed to install new flooring. We had to use a plumber to meet strata requirements. We also had a slight drip from the handle of my shower knob, into the shower.

Replacing the toilets cost $640 for about 40 minutes work, including testing (flushing)!!

The tech replaced the valve in the shower and it leaked more — long story short, he said I needed a new “diverter”, and the estimate of $800 came in AFTER he’d already cut the old one out. Not sure if that was a scam or not.

The valve replacement charge was never removed, either. Total bill was $1789 for $150 worth of parts and 4 hours labour. That works out to $411 per hour.

I’ve contacted the company to no avail, and have now contacted consumer protection.

Really helpful plumbing on short notice

It seems Mr. Rooter has gotten some negative reviews, but they were excellent at fixing my toilet. First, they identified that my broken toilet was in need of replacement, as the insides had rusted and broken down due to hard water, and then they promptly replaced the toilet. The two gentlemen providing the service were very cheerful and helpful.

I'd give zero stars if i could

I'd give zero stars if i could. This company preys on people's sense of urgency. Frankly, i think that the commercials are FAKE with the woman posing as the owner to try and gain everyone's trust. DO NOT fall for this. They over-charge and tried to bully me into buying a Halo whole house water system at a total bill of $5,500. I hired someone else to finish the dishwasher install and ended up repairing my floor tiles myself. I waited to post a negative review so that i could calm down. Trust me, hire someone else other than them.

Don't waste your time or money

I think when you pay for a service, you should get a good faith effort at success.
Sure he was late. Sure the charge for clearing a clog would be exorbitant. Over a barrel, though, right?
The tech was friendly enough, but after trying to snake my kitchen sink for 5 minutes or so, he said he couldn't clear it from the sink. Down we went into the crawl space and found the joint where the clog probably was. To our good fortune, the pvc pipe had been spliced about a foot from that joint. So it should have been easy enough to unscrew that little splice and run the snake from there. I suggested as much and he said, "I will not do that." First it was because if it worked, water would come pouring into the crawlspace, then because it risked damaging a pipe (although I had already released Mr. Rooter from liability for things like that).
So rather than the $300 it was supposed to cost to clear the drain, he only charged me $100 for his 30 minutes of not fixing it, or continuing to try. But no worries of course, because they can send someone out to replace who knows how many pipes. (You saw that one coming, didn't your?) So they got my $100 and they would want "well over a thousand" to replace some pipes.
I think any service implies a good faith effort at success, and this service fell short. It is really that simple. They should be ashamed. Their premium prices should reflect a premium effort.
Be warned, if your sink is clogged, it is probably because Mr. Rooter thinks you need thousands of dollars of new pipes.
PS- After he left, I went down with my dollar store hand snake and cleared it by going through the splice area like we had discussed.
PPS- I notice that their website includes numerous positive reviews, all of them 5 stars in fact. The most recent was 2020. Just saying.
