Mubi uses dark patterns to make…
Mubi uses dark patterns to make cancelling difficult and to make you think you have cancelled when you have not. Avoid this service, especially the free trials they offer. Scam.
I felt scammed!
I was charged even though I cancelled their FREE TRIAL. Then, they ignored my complaintS.for their mistake! I sent many emails. Nothing! And, it's the only way to contact them. They will never respond! Apparently, I will never get my money back.
I would never recommend this company. I felt scammed.
Philippe A is braindead
If you try to cancel, then you get a sale price. Loyal customers, no discount. Customer retention tactic FAIL!
There was a link that said ""You can tell us what's wrong" and so I did. In very clear and concise language. Philippe A, the Mubi rep, responded to me providing canned cut and paste answers to questions that were never asked. Philippe A showed zero comprehension of the written word. How did Philippe A aquire a text based job with no reading comprehension? DISAPPOINTING for the human race, and Mubi.
400€ charged during 3 years without a single email
I have subscribed for a free period in 2021, I thought I had cancelled right after. In 2024, I realized I have debited 9.99€/month from 2021 to 2023, then 11.99€/month untill 2024, for a total of ~400€ from 2021 to 2024!!
All this without a single email from Mubi.
They even kept debiting my card while my card got expired in 2023 (it is possible, I checked with my bank...).
This is what they told me:
"Once again one of the terms, stated on the sign up page and in our Terms of Service, is that subscriptions automatically renew if they aren't canceled. It is also clarified that we do not send a notification for impending renewal periods."
"I am afraid we cannot refund further. But we would like to offer 24 months of free access, without risk of being charged again, as a manner to compensate. We can't compensate for these charges in any other manner. If you wish to receive this offer please let us know."
LOL
As I'm not the only one in this case, I strongly suspect that their subcription cancellation procedure is fake.
The Mubi Go App isn't working correctly…
The Mubi Go App isn't working correctly again and I'm not able to make the most of my free weekly ticket. This has happend so many times now. I'll probably end up paying for a ticket. No response from Mubi. Very disappointed again.
Do not use this company
Do not use this company. They have charged my card without permission and refused to refund. I will contact my bank and report fraud on their part. I wonder how these crooks can still be in business. They should be put to prison!
Try hard movies
Try hard movies. Scam page making it hard to cancel subscription
Pure Evil!
I signed up for their 3 months for $1 promo. Ironically, I didn't watch a single movie during the 3 months, so I lost a buck. Anyway, today I got an email from them telling me that they tried to charge my account but weren't able to. They wanted me to update my payment details so they can charge me $20 per month. I always cancel subs right after I subscribe so that I don't forget and get charged later on. However, when I logged in they claimed my sub was still active! I cancelled it. I am afraid to deactivate my account in the event that they charge me later on and I will be unable to log back in. Their content is terrible, and their prices are even more ridiculous. Netflix, Crave, Hulu, Amazon Prime all charge less that Mubi and provide thousands of more movies and TV shows. How are they still in business?
Subcription not renewed
I love their idea of giving quality films to cinema lovers and I thoroughly enjoy their service. However, I faced this issue regarding my subscription where I made a payment for a yearly subscription but it wasn't updated on the website and my subscription wasn't renewed. Also, I mailed them on their customer service portal and got no reply after 4 days, which is bad. I hope their team respond to me.
MUBI and Think…
I have had issues with streaming quality in the past but I watch it on a different device and it works well. I say this at the start because this is the only problem that I had which couldn’t be resolved. I will review the service itself at the end but I feel I need to say other things first.
I have been a member on and off since 2015. (Now I am a yearly member and feel I don’t need other streaming services.)
In that time:
Customer service has always responded. The longest wait was three days. Any problem was resolved, not always on the first response but mostly.
Unsubscribing is very easy. There’s a button. It isn’t their fault if customers don’t read what they are agreeing to. Yes, they do make offers to get the customer to stay but you don’t have to agree to it.
They do not take money without the customer agreeing to it. If the customer misses a date for cancellation then why is it MUBI’s fault? I know other services give reminders and explain things in greater detail but other services also cater to a less aware demographic.
I apologise if this sounds elitist but MUBI isn’t like any other streamer.
MUBI has a collection of international and arthouse films. It is curated, so there is a short explanation of why a film is chosen as well as a community which shares reviews and additional essays and insights in the NOTEBOOK section of the site (and linked in the app).
It is a great way to enjoy film while also developing an appreciation and education in the medium.
It isn’t necessarily something to ‘chill’ with but certainly something to think on.
No Customer Service
Forget about asking for help through customer services....there is none! I've subscribed to MUBI a few times. I enjoy the films but can't afford a lengthy subscription. Recently they offered a 3 month plan I could afford, so I subscribed again. However, now, after 3 months I have no way of cancelling my subscription. Why? MUBI no longer recognises my password. Message says its the wrong password. Hmm. I save all passwords both on paper and through Chrome. So, I requested an email to reset my password. I never received a reply, more than a dozen times. And no... the supposed replies weren't in my spam or trash. I wrote to their help email address and after several days received an unhelpful reply. Poor poor poor service.
I hate the unsubcribe process
I hate it. The process of unsubscribing is built in a way that makes it easy to accidentally not complete it, so the charges keep coming. Overall it feels like a cheap trick.
Fraudulent charges from Mubi
Fraudulent charges from Mubi. I subscribed to watch a film which wasn't available so cancelled immediately. A month later I've been charged.
Let down by poor user interface. Otherwise great films….just can’t find them.
I really want to like Mubi. The concept is great and there are great movies available but the woeful navigation, categorisation and search facility make it almost impenetrable.
Don't listen to the moaners!
I stumbled upon these reviews accidentally. I think this is a great example of the internet being a place where people go to have a good moan, or express their fears or paranoia or whatever.. I've used MUBI on and off for years. Completely reliable, overall a good choice of films. Every so often I pause my subscription when I've seen most of the interesting ones available, then a few months later I go back on.
Advertises films that they don't have
Advertises films that they don't have available to watch. Very poor customer service, dont respond to emails. Very, very, very small selection of films. Difficult to cancel subscription
Like too many other reviews on here
Like too many other reviews on here, I had 2 years of monthly subscription fees taken from my account after i had cancelled.
They only agreed to repay 2 months despite being able to see i had not used the service during this period.
Best avoided or be very vigilant with your bank statements!
disappointment with the overall customer service experience
I was astonished to discover an unauthorized charge of yearly subscription from MUBİ dated November 2023. This incident occurred even after I had previously canceled my membership, and I have not accessed or utilized their services since the expiration of my last subscription. I believe this to be an oversight, and I kindly request their prompt assistance in resolving this matter. MUBI responded to me after several of my emails. In their response, they indicated a lack of capability on my part, suggesting that I was unable to cancel my subscription. As a customer seeking an international service, I expected a more reliable and customer-centric approach.
I look forward to a prompt resolution to this matter, although I have little hope.
Price on the way up. While inflation goes down.
I'm a current member. I think the list of movies is nice. However, it is shameless how all service providers are just increasing the monthly subscription, considering that now inflation is on the way down. Just got today their message, which i found hilarious: "the price of MUBI is changing from 11.99 to 13.99/month for all new members. BUT NOT FOR YOU... Your bill will remain the same until March 2024"... :)) thanks a bunch! Basically, I'm hit by the increase just after one month. You'll get my cancellation request soon, more likely.
I requested to cancel my subscription but still being charged for 2 months
I requested to cancel my subscription and they confirmed that they would delete my account and refund the monthly amount but they didn't and i am still being charged.
