good definitely recomended

I've used Music X-Ray for a couple years, and have found it a mixed bag. I believe their business model and their industry partners are legit, they are responsive, and in my experience honest, for example always refunding submission fees for non-responsive professionals as soon as requested.

That said, it's a difficult way to break an opportunity. I realize every artist (including myself) needs to consider whether their music has what it takes to get placed. That said, here are some impressions of the opportunities offered:
1) Every once in a while, you'll see an opportunity that accepts demo quality recordings, but most of the time, they are looking for broadcast-quality production. Any songwriter knows how difficult and expensive it can be to produce a song up to today's standards on your own. But in addition to having zero interest in artist development, most opps on MXR seem to have zero allowance for improving production of a tune even if the songwriting is quality;
2) I don't think most opps are looking for innovation of any sort. They want something stereotypical that will fill a brief, and they will often post references to songs a submission "should sound like";
3) I have gotten useful feedback from a number of industry professionals, but more common is a simple but useless "not quite what we're seeking" response.

I have had a couple selections -- but in both cases, organizations looking for artists or songs to push themselves. One of these experiences has been positive and one not so much. But no direct placements from MXR.
