I signed up for thier services by mistake. So I contacted them immediately by calling on the phone and emailing to have my subscription canceled, to no avail. They are playing games by tossing me around. I did everything they asked me to do in order for the cancelation and refund to through but my "account" remains ACTIVE. I really believe they are upto no good. Still waiting for my refund.

Green geeks are COLLECTING green $$$$

I signed up for a domain, THINKING, since they were a small company near my hometown of Philadelphia I would give them some play
BIG MISTAKE! Not only did they immediately charge my card, which i called the bank at 2 am CDT and verified, but they hassled me about verifying the account and said they had to do a manual verification. They then denied collecting almost $42 from my card, claiming it was just a "preauthorization". I told them I wanted a refund. I then reviewed their reviews, and saw, along with the poor grades here on Trustpilot, they've also been blasted on Reddit AND withbthe Better Business Bureau. Yet they SAY they have 50 thousand happy customers. I think the green geeks might be smokin that green "stuff"

They arent ethical or frankly legal

I had originally rated those guys somehow good. As time passes by, we start to discover extreme arrogance in their support, they are short, not infomative and dont really care a bit. finally, as we moved a hosting plan away, we dicovered we were billed there as well, which is our fault, as we did not cancel. no problem. here is where the problem is: there is no autorenewal here, to click on and off. DOES NOT EXIST!!! figured we needed that off because in a busy life, we want to make sure they do not bill us again next year, while the site is else where. Email support / sales to make sure auto renewal is off. first reply avoided the subject, and sort of asked why did we move away. after explaning, and asking again for auto renewal to be checked off, for the hosting and the domain, we got the following reply:
"Hello,

Thank you for contacting us.

It is not possible to turn off auto-renewal, however, GreenGeeks does send out renewal notices 30 days before renewing an account, so this provides a four-week window in which you can reach out to us to stop any renewal.

how in the heck is this normal? first off, it isnt true, that you get a reminder, because we did not last time. and if they did send one, and somehow the mail got lost between the 100's of emails we receive daily, it means it can happen again. WHY CAN THEY NOT cancel the account alltogether? there is no way for us to cancel the account. WE SHOULD HAVE THAT CHOICE. this is not rocket science. they are the only web hosting company on earth that is like this. I doubt that its even legal. So chosing any company on earth besides greengeeks, means you did better. AVOID. we will be fighting this tooth and nail. If I may add: domain name trasfer code, has been rejected twice with the new registrar, as a not legitimate code. SO those folks think by the time you open an account with them, they simply OWN you forever. un ethical, horrific to say the least.

I had an eco-lite account and wanted to upgrade to Pro. I paid US$63.66 for the upgrade, but after I paid the money I was still on eco-lite.
I enquired and have been told there is no record of my payment, even though I have supplied a screenshot of my debit card transactions showing the payment to Greengeeks.
These people are terrible communicators and very patronizing to the extreme.

Middling web service, no embedded video support, awful email

I'd like to love this service, which provides good web server performance and very good uptime, but I've encountered two serious problems. First, their shared hosting plan no longer allows the website to contain embedded videos.

Even worse, their email is quite unreliable. I've had several major issues with email delivery and deliverability. Within a month of switching to Greengeeks, my email started getting flagged as spam, and as a software engineer who knows about email deliverability, I know that another client on the shared server must have send spammy email (probably because they were hacked). This causes the IP address of the server to get black-flagged as a spam generator, so all the domains on the server are impacted.

They attempted to fix the issue through DNS configuration, however it was persistent. I can see in the email headers that the IP address is flagged. I've had email deliverability problems off and on for three months, and it's still not resolved.

Another major problem: I'm not receiving all my email. SEVERAL people have sent email to me that I never received. And it's not in my spam folder. Sometimes when I connect to their server to pull email, the connection times out. This is really bad, and probably why some of my email never arrives.

A good hosting service will monitor server performance, and the list of flagged IP addresses, and resolve their email deliverability problems quickly. Not acceptable.

So they are perhaps tolerable as a web host. But don't use them for email!

You should stay away from these guys

You should stay away from these guys.

They offer unlimited space in their web page, but after paying 3 years ahead, they suddenly complain of 60 Gb of data. That's even less data than on my phone!

No matter how I read their Terms of service, I was not doing anything wrong. It was not used for backup - just a website.

I asked for a refund, because their product was nothing like they advertised. But they just refused. They just don't care about their customers, after they have put their money on the table.

Please save your money for a more serious hosting provider.
