Unsafe work by electrician
Gosh, where shall I start?!
The electrician they've sent, Alexander Maclean / Academy Electrical, has visited me twice and:
- now half of my sockets are NOT working and he doesn't want to come back to finish the job
- he tried to change the price after 3 hours into the job.
I refused the price hike which is against their Ts&Cs but most people would have given in to the pressure (they called me 3 times a day to try to agree with the change in price).
- the cables he's installed that are coming out of the sockets DO NOT comply with UK regulations (BS7671) because they are not run in the prescribed zones.
- tried to GLUE the face plates for my new grid switches and when that didn't work he's put screws through them (despite the design being screwless)
- fitted broken back boxes to several sockets
- badly fitted a conduit to protect the wires in the wall, and that metal conduit has already cut into the wire coating (DANGEROUS)
And the list goes on, many other shoddy things.
On top of this, he's damaged my brand new expensive walnut kitchen cabinets (scratched them with his tools trolley).
It's been a nightmare dealing with Painter Adam and they've refused to send another electrician to complete the job.
I now feel that the positive reviews are fake.
I will report the unsafe and shoddy work to the electricity governing body.
Avoid Painter Adam at all cost.
The company is based in Czech Republic. So it will be difficult to get anything out of them if the tradespeople they send will damage your property or do a shoddy job.

We acknowledge that our partner should have communicated the additional cost for the extra work more clearly and promptly. That was a mistake, and we regret the confusion it caused. However, given that the original scope of work was significantly expanded, we hope you can understand why an additional charge was necessary.
Regarding the work itself, the situation was made more complex by multiple teams working on-site, including another electrician and the kitchen installers, which impacted our partner’s ability to complete the job smoothly. We had advised several times to complete the electrical work before installing the kitchen to avoid this kind of disruption.
Our partner completed a substantial portion of the work, but due to repeated delays and difficulty scheduling a return visit , as well as ongoing changes in communication, he ultimately decided not to continue with the project. As a result, he did not request final payment. We only requested a partial payment for the work already completed, and the full balance was to be settled upon final completion.
While we regret that we were unable to provide a replacement professional on the same day, as requested, we were open to arranging alternative availability as soon as possible. Unfortunately, this option was not suitable for you.
We understand your frustration and are genuinely sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. We sincerely hope you have since been able to find another professional to complete the work to your satisfaction.

Competitive quote for the painting of a bedroom. Initial speed of job was great. Unfortunately decorator booked broke down on way and could not complete the job. Took a week to get a replacement.
Zoe arrived and explained she was new to the trade. Worked extremely hard to get room prepped well but owing to inexperience took 2-3 days for this. Painting took longer than expected but we tolerated that as she was learning. Finish up to standard.

Top quality in every aspect
I found Adam procedures and service top quality. I was impressed by the positive communication of both the service rep. and the painter.
The painting of our bedroom exceeded expectations. All in all a pleasant experience and positive outcome.

Perfect Job by Painter Adam – Highly Recommended!
I recently hired Painter Adam to paint my external door, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The work was carried out by Brown, who was an absolute superstar—polite, professional, and clearly experienced. He brought all the necessary equipment, picked up the paint himself, and didn’t rush the job. Knowing it couldn’t be finished in one day, he returned promptly to complete it to a high standard.

My initial designated painter suddenly lived miles away and would take him 4 hours to get to me. This was discovered on the actual start date! Painter Adam very kindly assigned another painter for a few days later. Again, they travelled from London to Surrey, by train! Later than agreed with them! When they did arrive we re went through what was to be done. This was 12 o'clock now. Out of 5 rooms only 1 is 90% OK. The others are shockingly awful. 1 not even started. Henry the painter agreed, stupidly by me, as it was now 10pm, to come back and address the issues. This was in March...... I am still waiting! With a lovely big paint stain in the middle of my living room.

We would like to clarify a few points from our side. Initially, a local painter who typically travels by van was assigned to your project. However, due to unforeseen circumstances and the distance involved, a replacement painter had to be arranged at short notice, which unfortunately led to the delay and travel by train.
We recognize this was not ideal and regret the disruption it caused to your plans.
Regarding the paint spill, we did register your claim and take it seriously. Our painters are instructed to use dust sheets and protective coverings, and we believe the issue may have occurred during the removal of those coverings — something we will review internally to prevent future incidents.
We offered two resolutions at the time: either for the painter to return and address the issues or to provide a discount. The discount was chosen, and we were under the impression that this resolved the matter. We now understand that this did not fully meet your expectations, and we sincerely regret any frustration this has caused.
