The best English teacher Ms. Colleen!
In Korea, there is a word called ‘a true teacher’. It has the same meaning as the English word ‘teacher’, but with added respect and reverence. ‘A true teacher’ who guides the direction one should take in life. I don't know how to explain the difference between our Korean understanding of teacher and ‘a true teacher’ to Ms. Colleen, who speaks English. Ms. Colleen is a true teacher to my two children.
When I first met Ms. Colleen, I enrolled my two children in her classes with the hope of them learning English more effectively in an immersive environment that is different to their lives in Korea, in which Korean is their native language. My two children learn English at a large and famous academy in Korea, but they always felt disappointed that it was not connected to real-life situations.
Since beginning classes with Ms. Colleen, my two children's English skills have improved significantly. She recommended textbooks appropriate for each child’s level, and provided guidance and flexibility to incorporate my children’s own interests and language goals.
For my one child who likes chess, she taught him how to play in English and they played chess together. For my other son who likes soccer, they watched soccer broadcasts together and analyzed soccer players' games in English. When my child entered adolescence and experienced difficult times, Ms. Colleen added her diverse life experiences and wisdom to provide touching comfort and counseling to my child. And in English too! The purpose of this class is to develop your English skills. My children are learning various wisdom through the spirit of Ms. Colleen. Where can there be a better English education than this?
As we continued our classes, we learned a warm love that we could not get anywhere else. My children discuss and resolve concerns in English together that are difficult to discuss in Korean. This is a wonderful thing that I can't put a price on, and I am always grateful to Ms. Colleen. My child got seriously injured, and I completely forgot that he had classes that day. However, Ms. Colleen comforted my child with warm words and assured him that the wound would heal quickly. Thanks to this warm comfort and support, my son worked hard to quickly recover from his wounds. Every word a teacher says has a big impact on students. There are many times when my children's emotional wounds are healed by Ms. olleen’s loving attention and comfort.
At first, I was a little worried about non-face-to-face classes being held through Zoom meetings. However, because Ms. Colleen is truly professional, my children, who are still young, never felt uncomfortable while the class progressed. They started taking classes with Ms. Colleen two years ago, and she taught my children, who were younger at the time, detailed technical methods for participating in the classes. My children easily did what she taught them. So even if you are new to Zoom classes, don’t be afraid and give it a try.
My children travel with a laptop computer because they want to attend classes with Ms. Colleen even while traveling. Ms. Colleen tells us to enjoy the trip, but our children enjoy classes with Ms. Colleen more than the trip, so they want to meet Ms. Colleen via Zoom at their hotel even while traveling. My children and I hope that Ms. Colleen stays healthy and teaches with our children for a long time. We are learning not only from Ms. Colleen and English, but also about life. Of course, they took various educational courses with Ms. Colleen for two years, and my children have gained the ability to communicate freely in English even though they live in Korea. In addition, Ms, Colleen has provided detailed instruction on various English grammar, vocabulary, and reading skills that can be applied equally to the Korean curriculum. Consequently, they have been able to acquire sufficient English skills required for the Korean curriculum.
We would like to continue taking classes with Ms. Colleen for as long as possible. I would like to express my gratitude to Ms. Colleen.
