Absolutely worst experience I've ever had in 40 years
I have been renting cars for 40 years and this was the worst experience of my life. First they canceled my reservation and forced me to get a larger size car. Then they needed not just my insurance card but my entire declarations page which I was unable to obtain. This has never happened with any other agency and they use it to kind of force you to pay extra for more insurance If your deductibles don't meet their standards. They were also extremely rude and unhelpful. I finally rented a car somewhere else and they were only asking half as much as Next car for the
daily toll pass. It took me an hour and a half to finally get a car.
Scams you with low rates online then…
Scams you with low rates online then make you get their insurance unless you jump through hoops, make you go into a booth with an agent on a screen that is so hard to understand and took almost an hour while 2 girls sat at the counter doing nothing, ended up costing hundreds extra in fees not disclosed online, made me sign over a dozen releases and I hear it gets worse when you return so we’ll see in a couple days.
Don’t use this company.
This was hands down the worst rental…
This was hands down the worst rental car experience of my life.
I booked a car advertised at $68. When I arrived, I was told the price was actually $220 because the original rate only applied to Florida residents and included only 50 miles—none of this was clearly disclosed at booking. At that point, I had no real choice but to pay.
I was then told I needed insurance, but they did not accept a standard insurance card and instead demanded an insurance declaration page, something I have never been asked for by any rental company before.
They also did not allow me to use my own toll pass, forcing me into their toll program so they could charge additional toll fees.
After returning the vehicle, things got even worse. They are now trying to charge $450 for a “smoking cleaning fee,” claiming their system detected smoking in the car. This is completely false. We were traveling with four children, all of whom have asthma. None of us smoke.
They are now refusing to return my deposit based on this false accusation.
This experience felt like a bait-and-switch followed by excessive and fabricated fees. I strongly warn anyone considering this company to be extremely cautious and prepared for charges that appear after the car is returned.
I will be disputing these charges.
From check in it was shady
From check in it was shady, you go into a booth for video call and that point on the numbers kept going up adding more insurance and toll fees that you could get 18$ a day terrible terrible service Expedia should be ashamed to be associated with them !!!!!
Don't rent with this company
Paid to rent a mazda 2 "or similar", one of the most expensive and bigger cars offered. Instead I received a shitty, small Hyundai Grand that was not able to go uphill unless the AC was deactivated.
I will not repeat with your company.
Scam- Do not book here
Scam. Their whole set up is built in getting more money from the customer. Cars cancelled if you do not arrive with in an hour if stated time for their airport centres- ever had a late running flight- but 48 hours notice required timely them know of your late arrival. Mandatory insurance at massively inflated prices even where you have your own. Everything about this place is aimed at coming money out the customer. Book elsewhere
Very very very bad experience with the…
Very very very bad experience with the next car, please do not purchase this rental, you will regret.
Reasons:
1. Our family waited for more than half an hour for the shuttle at the Orlando airport
2. They had $110-00 charges at the counter for the hidden fees as insurance though we have insurance.
3. They have us waited for more than 2.5 hrs
I would give negative rating for this rental car.
WARNING! INSURANCE ISSUES
When I made the reservation there was no requirenent for a letter from my insurance company confirming coverage. They sent a text message just before the collection. I was forced to pay $35 per day for their insurance with a $250 deductible. They wanted to sign a digital form with images of the vehicle in pristine condition. I insisted on checking the vehicle myself and found accident damage on the rear bumper. They claimed that it wasn't there "this morning." I would avoid this company based on my experience.
I wish I could give negative stars
I wish I could give negative stars. Written materials promised shuttle pick-up within 15 minutes. I called twice. No response. After 45 minutes I gave up and rented from Hertz. After reading the reviews, that was clearly the best decision of my vacation. Tried to get a refund of my deposit. No joy. Live and learn.
SCAM!!! Don't Use Them. The have a Hidden Extra Charge For Insurance.
They charged me an additional $60 for using my own insurance even though my Liberty Mutual policy met all the requirements.
We will never use this company again
We will never use this company again. Our flight was delayed so we missed our reservation time. They had no more cars the size we had reserved so they charged us for an upgrade. We tried to decline their liability insurance but they insisted on seeing proof of insurance. What I could pull up on my phone was dated one month in the future (USAA always sends the new cards about one month early) so he didn't accept it and insisted on charging us for insurance. He pressured us about getting their toll pass coverage ($15/day) saying that 65% of the roads in Houston are toll roads. We ended up paying about $100 in addition to what we had already pre-paid for a two day rental. There are 7 rental car companies advertised at this location, but only one person was working the counter, so I wouldn't trust any of the other companies either. Mexc, Stride, Zoom, Street, United, Weego, and One Switch. It really felt like we were being scammed.
DO NOT use this company
DO NOT use this company. My wife and son went to Florida for a small vacation. She had paid for a rental car through this company. But conditions in Michigan were icy so her flight was delayed and then instead of flying into Tampa she had to fly into Sarasota. She communicated this to them and told them. Next day she took an uber to Tampa to pick up her rental car and they had rented it to someone else. They told her she could upgrade for an additional $65 a day. And then would not refund any of her money. Saying she missed her pick up window of 2 hours. This company does not care about customer service or understand the stress of vacations when air flights are out of our control. They would rather rip you off and make an extra buck. Stay clear of them. You will regret using them.
Do not book from Stride or NextCar
I booked a package through Priceline for a flight, hotel, and rental car. Priceline, for whatever reason, offered NextCar. Their prices were deceptively low — and therein lies the catch. You show up at the counter, and they make you buy very expensive insurance but fail to explain the fine print (literally). Their contract is in such a small font that you can’t even read it.
The SUV we got had a number of issues: the ceiling lights wouldn’t turn off, and the wipers turned on mysteriously. While those were annoying, what really gets you is their terrible customer service — wait — they do not have one.
While driving back one night, we ran over something on the road and it blew out the tires. Several cars behind us did the same and also had their tires blown out. We managed to pull over to the shoulder while cars whizzed past us. We tried calling their number but only got an AI agent. We waited and waited, but no one called us back.
With the help of the other drivers who ended up in the same situation, we managed to change the spare tire and reached our hotel at 2 in the morning. Seven hours later, still no call from their so‑called customer service. So we drove to their lot at Miami Airport at 8 that same day.
There, we got the shock of our lives. They told us to pay $1,000 as part of the “deductible.” We questioned the insurance and hefty deposit we had already paid, but apparently that doesn’t even cover it. They wouldn’t give us another car until we paid the $1,000 deductible — something we had to reluctantly pay because we were in a bind.
We asked to speak to their customer service, but they refused. Instead, they made us talk to some guy in maintenance who was extremely rude. He said we had “damaged” their car and had the gall to ask for another one. Not once did he ask how we even managed to get the car back to their lot.
So now we are out more than $1.5K for a stupid five‑day rental. They are scammers and engage in very deceptive and fraudulent practices. Please avoid them like the plague.
They made me pay extra for there car…
They made me pay extra for there car insurance even though I have full coverage Insurance through USAA which covers car rentals. Plus they charged me for tolls even though I specifically used Google Maps and chose the option to avoid tolls on all my driving.
Run - another car rental scam
Run. I paid $380 for 2 days mid-size car rental. No matter what you have for your own insurance, they wont give you a car unless you buy their insurance. Its a worst way to start your vacation.
This company is a scam...Regret my…
This company is a scam...Regret my decision to book which turned out to be worst decision of my life. I booked for $400 online and ended up paying $1200. Let me begin with all the issues :
1) We reached its location to pick the car and waited for nearly 2 hrs to get our car
2) They said only 1 car is available and they are upgrading it so daily $25 extra
3) They said my current car insurance is not sufficient so they charged me $45 per day
4) They gave me Nissan Altima with 1 tyre having less air and when I showed them they temporarily filled it to turn off the warning. But it started coming as soon as we reached hotel and air became very less. So next day we went to mechanic to see if it was not flat tire and he said it is not flat tire but we need to continuously keep filling air daily morning and evening which we did. In all this confusion since we were already out on freeway from Miami to Orlanda we could not get back the car to original location as we were very far already, so I tried to call them, but as expected their phone never works. Noone ever picks phone at customer support, so we had no choice but to keep driving. We drove like that for a week daily filling air 2 times (spent almost $50 on it) and while returning we complained on these issues, but they were just not listening. They said once you take our car outside, we are responsible.
5) After this they charged me almost $8 per gallon for the remaining gas tank which they never told us while taking the car.
Purposely they won't tell you these hidden costs.
Finally, I wish there was a category to give -5 rating, but since it is not available I had to give 1 Rating.
I would definitely recommend anyone to NEVER use this company as they are just there to exploit customers without having any empathy, loyalty or service.
Nextcar is a complete scam
Nextcar is a complete scam. When I rented the car, they told me it would be for a week for around $400. I had to pay a deposit of a little over $300, and when I went to pick up the car, surprise! The $400 was just to reserve the car, and $1400 was the actual cost. In total, I had to pay almost $1800 US dollars. It's unbelievable that Expedia works with companies like this.
Don't rent a car from Next Car
NextCar Miami deserves only 1 star due to extremely misleading and frustrating practices. The experience from booking to final charges feels dishonest and stressful, especially for travelers.
Hidden fees and upselling
The final price at the counter is drastically higher than the online quote, with multiple add-ons suddenly becoming “mandatory” at pickup.
Extra charges for insurance, toll passes, and mileage are pushed aggressively, even when these costs were not clearly disclosed during the online reservation process.
Insurance refusals
Staff refuse to accept valid personal auto insurance or credit card rental coverage and insist on selling their own overpriced in-house insurance.
Customers are pressured into paying far more than expected, with the clear impression that the rental will not be released unless their insurance is purchased.
$2500 Deposit
Nextcar Miami requires very large security deposits, sometimes in the thousands, which is far above what many mainstream rental companies charge.
Overall experience
The combination of hidden fees, forced insurance, and deposit problems makes renting from NextCar in Miami feel risky and predatory rather than professional.
Strongly not recommended; there are many other rental companies in Miami that are more transparent, trustworthy, and respectful of customers’ time and money.
NEVER rent from these people
NEVER rent from these people
1. You can never talk to a real person. You will be in a booth, talking to someone via zoom. I understood after the session why, because there was a lot of yelling and swearing from the other booths as well and if they were here is person there would always be fights!
2. All the clients (we were chatting with each other waiting one hour for each person to finish) we talking about how they got riopped off as this facility asked us to pay extra fees. We were asked to pay an extra US25.95 PER day for insurance, which when we declined they said they cannot release the car unless we agree. Then they charged us $18.95 for each day we use the tolls (admin charged) PLUS the toll fee used.
3. We had a confirmed rental that we did online prior to arrival, done through the airline company website as part of flight and car deal. All the information was provided. Yet they were asking us again, for all the information like email, phone number, license, etc etc. The whole thing took about one hour
I finally refused to take their car and walked out. From time of arrival to the time I waked out, it took us 4 hours and 10 minutes!!!
I went back to the airport (no shuttle service) via uber and they gave me a car in 8 minutes!!!
This company is a SCAM
This company is a SCAM! STAY AWAY! They lure you in with low prices but when you pick up your car they tell you you have to pay either $60 or $90 per day for insurance. The $60 price is if you have your own insurance. This is on top of the price per day you accepted in the reservation.
