Toilet leak

Following a recommendation from a friend, we contacted N Leonardi Ltd to come and address a leak.

Once here, issues with the leaking toilet were diagnosed quickly and a quote for the work followed promptly. We agreed a date for the necessary work to be carried out and Nick came and fixed it on that date, doing a great job.

Communication was good throughout and Nick arrived when we were told he would. Great work, fair price, and a friendly guy too. Would recommend.

Yet again another top quality service from this company. Very efficient booking service, turn up when they say they will and do a great job at a sensible price. We now use Nick for all our rental properties as well as our own home. Highly recommended.

BEWARE! When is a boiler service not a boiler service …. When N Leonardi only completes a gas safety check…

For the last 6 years N Leonardi have serviced my Gloworm System Boiler, signing the Installation & Service manual signed plus a ‘Gas Service Record’

On Christmas week the boiler failed, no fault codes (mother board failure), N Leonardi was unavailable so I employed Glow Worm.

I also highlighted that a radiator was no longer getting hot (only noticing as it got colder) & boiler was running on lower power for CH, indicating a failing pump.

The engineer asked if I had the boiler regularly serviced, to which I replied ‘yes’, asking if it included draining the boiler each year to check the pressure sensor & expansion vessel as per annual maintenance in the Installation and Service Manual. My reply was ‘no’.

Following a pump, expansion vessel, pressure switch, pressure relief valve replacement I am completely dissatisfied.

Effectively N Leonardi have only completed a Gas Safety Check, and no servicing as per the manufacturer’s instructions in the Glow Worm Installation and Service Manual.

N Leonardi has confirmed that they have only completed a ‘Gas Safety Check’ and we have agreed to disagree that they were contracted to complete a service noting that the Installation and Service Manual has been signed by them for the last 6 years.

I am writing this for other customers to be aware. Warranty could be invalidated if the maintenance is not followed.

I have received a partial refund but I am particularly dissatisfied as I have been misled and I am out of pocket.

Hi Tim,

I’m sorry to hear you’re dissatisfied and I’d like to clarify a few points for accuracy, particularly for anyone reading this review.

Over the past six years I attended annually and carried out the work that was agreed at the time, which was a gas safety check and basic boiler inspection, not a full manufacturer strip-down service. This was explained at the outset and reflected in the documentation provided after each visit, all of which you were present for.

At no point during my visits were there any visible faults, pressure issues, warning signs from the pressure gauge, or operational concerns with the boiler, pump, expansion vessel, or pressure sensor. The last visit was approximately six months prior to the breakdown, and the boiler was operating normally at that time.

It’s also important to note that this boiler is over 10 years old, well outside of any manufacturer’s warranty, and was not installed by N. Leonardi Ltd. As with any boiler of this age, component failures can and do occur. These issues did not present themselves during any of my attendances.

With regard to draining the boiler annually, this is not standard practice unless a fault or clear indication is present. Unnecessary draining can introduce air and debris into the system and, in some cases, create further problems rather than prevent them.

When the boiler failed over Christmas, I was unfortunately unavailable as I was in hospital at the time, which is why Glow-worm were contacted directly. As you mentioned, the initial diagnosis was a PCB failure, and additional components were replaced during that visit by Glow-worm.

We look after numerous boilers and have never had an issue with manufacturer warranties being invalidated. Any boiler that we install is serviced in line with manufacturer requirements to maintain warranty, and we have long-standing professional relationships with manufacturers, including Worcester accredited work.

As a gesture of goodwill — despite maintaining that the agreed work was carried out correctly — a partial refund was provided. I’m sorry we couldn’t reach a mutual agreement on this matter, but I strongly refute that you were misled or that work was carried out improperly.

Kind regards,
Nick

This company carried out work at our property
He fitted a radiator the work is so shabby
When I have showed it to other plumbers they were shocked he left the work like this
The radiator started to leak and they refused to come and rectify it
His excuse was that he told me the builder asked him to leave it like that - as a plumber you would not leave your name to workmanship like this - even Jenny mentioned to him that surely you didn’t leave the job in that state.
N refused to come and sort the issue out. All it took was for him to come and rectify the work. When I spoke to him he just did not care and refused to sort the issue out
I am now having to redo the job
Very disappointed

Hello Anupma,

I’d like to clarify the circumstances for anyone reading this. The original boiler installation was carried out directly for you, and later I was asked by the builder managing other works on-site to fit additional radiators, including the one in question. This was piped from existing microbore pipework, and at the builder’s request, the pipework was left visible so it could be boxed in later, which I explained would not be the neatest finish. He confirmed this was fine as it would be hidden.

Around six months later, you reported a small leak. We arranged to attend despite the distance (over an hour’s drive) but the appointment was cancelled en route after you said it had stopped. Another six months later, you reported a leak again. On receiving photos, I saw the pipework had since been boxed in — work I did not carry out — and explained that this may have caused the issue.

I always take pride in my work and am happy to return promptly when issues arise within a reasonable period and where I believe my workmanship is at fault. Unfortunately, in this case, I was unable to agree that the leak was due to my work, especially given the time elapsed, the cancelled visit, and alterations done by others after my installation.

Prompt and Efficient

Arrived in good time and conducted an efficient annual service of our gas boiler. This is a Which? Trusted Trader company and it has specialist qualifications in Worcester boilers - important for us. At £60, this was a very fair price - plenty of others charge more for the same job.
