I am a pensioner

I am a pensioner. My pension hasn’t gone up by 21% like my water bill has. How am I suppose to pay for the increase without reducing my heating or getting cheaper lower quality food?

Let's stop paying our water bills together

I say, since we're all having the same issue with this monopoly company, you know, legally, they can't shut off our water for not paying our bills......
Let them take us all to court and we can show them the loop features in all their websites that mean you can't get the actual information you need to apply for a water meter, lodge a complaint. Paying 51 £ a month as a single occupant that showers at the gym is utterly insane!

Sewage leak from a manhole in garden.

Discovered a sewage leak from a manhole in the garden. Not urgent as leak was outside away from the house andall toilets unaffected.
They quickly diagnosed the issue as root damage and were able to clear it manually although as the drain was too far from the road for their pressure hose it was not possible to completely clear it.
As the drain is on my property and doesn't serve other properties this is something I have to solve. Fortunately I took out plumbing and drainage cover with Homeserve when we moved in which covers this, so they will send someone tomorrow.
Happy with my experience with Northumbrian Water. They were able to resolve the immediate problem as part of determining responsibility.
I suspect a lot of people do not know that a sewer running across your own property and serving only you is your responsibility. Really glad I took out plumbing insurance. Let's see how Homeserve perform. (First claim, but other interactions have been good so far).

Monopolised greed and lies

Like the majority of customers, our bill has increased by 20% this February, absolutely disgraceful when you consider that they pumped days of raw sewage into the River Tyne at their sewage treatment works (STW) Hexham site last May (video evidence by canoeists) also at their STW Broomhaugh site (video evidence by anglers), yet they deny any wrongdoing, despite wiping out the majority of the dace population in the main river. An ecological disaster, which the EA seem powerless and unwilling to do anything about. Corruption, lies, greed, coverup, the whole lot.
1 hour wait time when you call them, online complaint form does not download.
They then have the cheek and audacity to display information banners at any roadworks stating they care about the environment and the fish in our rivers! Ironic how water companies that deliver our water are the biggest polluters of them all. Cowboys.

PARKING OF WORK VANS 😡

Why do you think it’s acceptable for your employees to park their work vans in housing estates and in streets over night for days at a time? If the employees have no place to park on their own property, they should not bring a vehicle home! Many vehicles are causing issues on small streets, one neighbour had a van parked in front of her house for a week without it moving. Members of the public are fed up and are prepared to take action themselves, which will be very costly for NW.

Spoke to Kris yesterday after ten days…

Spoke to Kris yesterday after ten days of problems with Essex and Suffolk water ( Sub-Company of Northumbrian Water ), i rang to make a complaint, but Kris was absolutely fantastic and turned a complaint into a positive review on here, absolutely answered all our questions and found any answers to things he wasn't sure about. Top class service.
Thanks Kris

My water bill is going up to £64 per month, that is a rise of almost £17 per month since 2023. I don't qualify for help, but it is a struggle to pay it. I also have Homeserve with them too. That is £25 per month. I am going to cancel that, because I can't afford it any longer.

Disgusting

Absolutely disgusted to receive my bill which had gone up to £73.44 per month. Per month! For water! Multiply this by every household in the county to appreciate the magnitude of what these guys are taking from the public and for what.... to dig up our roads and cause traffic chaos. Even appreciating inflation it is difficult to understand how the hike in costs is so steep over the years other than putting it down to greed, bad management, bonuses and wastage. Truly disgusting. Hope the government will step in.

Unjust Billing Practices by Northumbria Water: A Loyal Customer's Experience

I have been a loyal customer of Northumbria Water for 11 years. A year ago, my water bill was £28 per month for a single occupant. Due to job relocation, I moved out and put my property up for sale. Then, I noticed that Northumbria Water charged me £44 per month when I was not living there for six months. After I sold my property, they even sent me a letter stating that I owe them over £20. I phoned them to explain the situation and informed them that they should have reimbursed me for the overcharged water bill when no one lived in my property for six months. However, they ignored everything and continued to harass me to pay the additional £20.

For the new property I bought, my monthly water bill is £24 for a single occupant. I couldn't believe how Northumbria Water charged me £44 per month for an empty property. Indeed, my friend who bought my old property pay about £36 for two occupants. Clearly, Northumbria Water provides the worst service to loyal customers. I should have switched to another water supplier earlier on. I would give Northumbria Water a zero star.

Woke up to no water at all from taps

Woke up to no water at all from taps, garden had water pouring into it from somewhere. Called emergency line and a technician was out within a short time. He brought us bottled water too. He arranged for repairs, as it was outside of our boundary, and this was arranged and completed within just a few hours! The repair team let us know when the repair was complete. All round great service, very much appreciated.

Their website takes you around in…

Their website takes you around in circles not recognising your email then telling you this email is already in use. All I want to do is register and set up a direct debit. Going nowhere I rang them 44 minutes later l got this old dear on and asked what she could do for me ? I suggested she tells her bosses that I am not a happy bunny after this ludicrous wait and suggest he takes on more staff out of his bonus and stop fouling up streams to save fines, more staff. She said l am sorry for your wait. I said no your not, you just want to get through your day and go home and until then you wont even say sorry to all the other unhappy bunnies until they raise the matter. In fact I don't believe you give a monkeys toss. She hung up !!! I am not bothered it will save me paying exhorbitent water rates

Spanish Inquistion

Trying to discover if there's a water outage my area but the automated system won't connect to a human being who may be able to answer the question without first confirming a post code, a house number, a date of birth, etc. This is ridiculous Orwelian demands simply to find out if a pipe has leaked.

terrible service / treated unfair

Ive had nothing but problems with this company they planned to fit my water meter outside my house dug all my pavment out and then came back and put it back together a few days later so i assumed it was fitted 6 months later they say it had not been fitted and charged me full water rates backdated, since then ive had nothing but problems requested my phone recordings as ive constantly been lied to then was told it would take 21 days to receive them by memory stick and still now 8 weeks later they are apologising they haven't sent anything and i have to wait another 30 days for someone to be InTouch about this situation the company is an absolute joke and i have been treated very poorly and unfair.

Don't just send normal paperless bills

They charge you for water you haven't used months in the future and don't email you when it's time to pay your bill. If you're lucky they send you a baby overdue notice even though you've opted for paperless bills, or they don't both to contact you about your debt at all, which can hurt your credit rating. I had to tell them I've moved out just to get them to close the account and then reopen a new one just to find out how much I actually owe. Ridiculous.
