Contributors Removed Close to Project Completion Without Payment

I was removed from the onboarding and production group chats without any prior notice. Those were the only channels where we could communicate with other team members, so now I don’t know what is happening or who to contact.

My efficiency has been good—on average, 7–8 minutes per task. Even though OpenTrain requested 30 tasks per day, I consistently completed over 50 labels daily. I also put effort into ensuring quality by carefully following the manual and double-checking political terms, names, and other special nouns.

At this point, I am unsure whether I will be paid, based on how the situation has been handled. I also noticed that discussion about this job is limited—my posts in WFHJobs and WorkOnline subreddits were automatically removed. I am confused how this project has continued on LinkedIn for two years without more feedback or reports.

Hello,

You were removed from the project because of a high rework % of over 85%.

This means that 85% of the tasks that you submitted had to be edited/corrected by QC.

All contributors are paid for their time, even if they were later removed from the project.

WARNING: Labour Churn, should be a crime.

Project: Mandarin Transcription Project
This project and platform operate like a well-oiled SCAM machine. They constantly onboard new contributors, then set impossible standards — 100% task accuracy, unrealistic time limits (e.g. 5 minutes for a task that realistically takes 20+), and zero tolerance for partial correctness.

Once you've done hours of unpaid training and submitted work, they quietly remove contributors without warning, without EVIDENCE, without justification, even though you've submitted work correctly. Then they bring in fresh recruits to repeat the cycle. It’s a revolving door designed to extract free labour while maintaining the illusion of progress. It’s not about quality. It’s about control. They cycle people in and out to keep the labour FREE and disposable.

DON'T FALL FOR IT, DON'T WORK FOR THEM.

I believe more and more truth is revealing.
Good for them.

Hello,

We don't expect 100% task accuracy, and contributors are paid for their time fixing tasks. The time per task was reasonable, given that the actual project average with within the expectations.

Contributors are only removed for:
-Repeatedly submitting low-quality work, without improvement
-Cheating by using AI-assisted tools

If you were removed from the project, it was due to one of those reasons.

Exploitative workflow disguised as opportunity

I joined OpenTrain AI for their Mandarin Transcription Project. The onboarding looked legitimate — funded milestone, clear instructions, and an apparent link to reputable clients.

However, once inside, the structure became clear:
• Training and onboarding were unpaid, despite taking hours.
• Pay was conditional on 100% acceptance of each microtask, with no pay for corrections or partially correct work.
• The “expected time per task” (5–10 minutes) was unrealistic, especially given the dense tagging rules and quality expectations.
• Communication was vague, and deadlines kept being extended while new workers were continuously added, creating the illusion of progress but effectively crowdsourcing free labor.

I passed their quality test with a perfect score, yet it was obvious the system was designed to favor quantity over genuine linguistic skill. The data contributors are treated as interchangeable, even though their work trains AI speech models.

In short: If you value your time or your professional expertise, think twice before joining.

Hi Nicholas,

-Payment for fixing tasks: If tasks were incorrect and you were asked to fix them, all contributors were paid for that time
-The expected time per task across the whole project was reasonable, as the final time per task across the project was 6.5 minutes

The AI interviewer is ridiculous and…

The AI interviewer is ridiculous and somewhat condescending. It asks asinine questions and is generally incredibly poor. I have zero expectations for the platform if the interview process is that idiotic. Only a singular review here is good, and that one is fairly questionable in its veracity, so I'd avoid wasting time with Opentrain.ai.

Outsorucing website with lots of clients, so it's not a scam.

Been working for a while on that website. It is basically like an outsourcing website that hires people as freelancers with various clients (similar to Freelancer.com or Upwork), and it specializes in AI training. Be smart in choosing the clients to work for. If you say you did not get paid, it could mean that the client is a fraud or another mistake. My client was nice and paid me on time.

friends of scammers, well i got a task in it and the client cheated me like i literally spent 2 hours in folding tshirt 120 times for ml model's traing and they posted the task as 80 dollars budget ,i placed a bid of 70 dollars and i done that job to after submitting i recieved only a dollar (yes you heard it right 1 dollar) i asked do i look like a slave to the opentrain.ai's support and they said we can't do anything like that ,youhave to speak to the client yourself and i saidim going to yell at him(acctually i didnt') i said to him ("This is a total rip-off! You should’ve made it clear upfront. Do I look like a slave? I spent two hours folding shirts, and you throw me a single dollar? Even the French minimum wage is €11.88! I’d be happy with just $10, but a dollar? That won’t even buy me a Pepsi at KFC!") and they suspended my account ?? friends with scammers

Hi Ragava, upon checking this, the payment rate was made very clear with the "Deposited Funds" for the milestone.

Please ensure you check the amount the client deposited before starting work.
