I used to buy a competitor brand, but found they didn't last as long (a few years in they just stopped working), whereas I have 5 different models of Optimate going on 5+ years and they are all decent - with some doing great jobs of recovering dead batteries (not just keeping them maintained). You can't beat the Optimate Duo 1 in my opinion for quality and price.

I first purchased my first Optimate / Techmate about 20 years ago to maintain my two bikes (Kawasaki Z1100A3 & BMW R1100RT) plus an old classic Morris Minor. Since then, I have used the same charger / maintainer for these vehicles and numerous others. I have always found the Optimate to be excellent and always reliably brings a battery back from the edge...
Now, I have upgraded to the 6 Ampmatic version.

I have had an optimate II since 1999 which has kept the batteries charged on my motorcycles for 25 years, at the moment I have 4 bikes so my car doesn't get used a great deal and even though it had a new battery 18 months ago it went down to 11.8V and the car wouldn't start, it recharged but went below 12V again a few weeks later after the car had been stood for about 8 days and wouldn't start, the original 1999 Optimate isn't suitable for a 3.0L V6 car so I enquired which Optimate would be best, both ProBike (supplier) and Optimate advised getting the Optimate 6, on first use it checked the battery then went into recovery mode and now the battery holds it's charge even after over a week of not being used, I don't know how it did it but it should be allowed entry to the Magic Circle, I now keep an eye on it with an OBD2 scanner which reports the battery is in good condition and holding 12.6V

I needed a new hook for one of my Optimate motorbike chargers, but the Online postage was excessive! I had a trip to Northampton planned in any event, so popped in to their warehouse on Sterling Business Park to buy one and was given it FOC …. What a lovely surprise and great customer service! I have been using the optimate 3 charger for my motorbike for 7 years now. The battery in at the moment is 5 years old. This charger definatly looks after the battery and makes it last a very long time. So simple to use, its a must to have if you dont use your motorbike daily.

Mis sold a product - BEWARE. So it turns out the Solar travel charger…”outdoor” and “waterproof” charge controller is anything but! Oh and to top things off the warranty does not cover water ingress!! After numerous emails they have confirmed that this product will withstand “water splashes from the top” or “light occasional rain”….only mine was under the seat of the bike inside a tent and still got water in and failed after 7 months!!!

Refused to honour warranty. Charger was purchased new off eBay; as seller was not on official list hidden on their website Optimate wouldn't repair one of their defective products. It's not new if not from their list apparently. Funny that it was new when I bought it. Pathetic policy by distributor to avoid valid warranty claims for their defective products. Caveat emptor,

Bought an Optimate 4 BMW
Ordered on Saturday, arrived on Tuesday, informed of order progress really well. Would recommend. No need to review the product as they have a great reputation. Would recommend ordering from them direct, as good as buying of any of the reseller sites.
