I was very happy with the technical support I received

My company recently implemented OptinMonster for a client, primarily to use their content-locking feature and lock certain articles and pages. When I ran into an issue on the page we were trying to gate, Anton was able to provide a solution that resolved the issue! I was very happy with my support experience!

Excellent Customer Service

I have been a customer of OptinMonster for several years and found the tools to be easy to use and effective at growing an email list. When I needed to take a break from our yearly contract, they paused my account, no questions asked. When I contacted them a few months later, the customer service rep was so helpful and friendly. They immediately reinstated my account and all of the campaigns were there waiting for me, right where I left off. It was so fast and easy. Thank you!

Free tier appears to be a scam

Started working through the setup for their free plan and they want my Credit Card details and the right to take money from the card. If I reach the limits of the free tier I'll decide then if I want to move to a paid tier and provide my payment details then, not before.

Thanks for the honest feedback! I totally get where you're coming from... handing over card details upfront can feel like a commitment you might not be ready for yet.

Just to give a little context, the main reason we do this is actually to protect your campaigns. We want to make sure there's zero interruption in your service, especially when your campaigns are performing well and you're seeing results. We'd hate for a winning campaign to suddenly pause just because a limit was hit.

That being said, we want you to have full control over your account! There is a setting right inside the app that allows you to disable "auto-upgrade" completely. This way, you can run your campaigns worry-free and decide exactly if or when you want to move to a paid tier. Hope that clears things up! If you need help finding that setting, just let our support team know. 😃

Quick fix to my mistake!

I had an issue (of my own making) that was going to cost our company a small amount every month. When I noticed my mistake I tried to ask thechatbot AI for help, but that didn't work out. So I started a support ticket and Erica followed up real quick, took care of the issue, and asked if there was anything more she could help with. Nah, nothing more, she was great! Mediocre tool with some outdated UX ideas. Their cancel flow is pure confirmshaming and it’s almost comical.

Our goal with the offboarding process is usually just to make sure users know exactly what features or data they might be losing access to, but it sounds like we might have tipped the scale a little too far into "confirmshaming" territory in your experience. That is definitely not the vibe we want to give off.

Unauthorized Renewal and Poor Refund Policy - Avoid at All Costs

I am writing this review as a warning to potential customers about OptinMonster's unethical billing practices. As a medical professional and business owner, I have dealt with numerous SaaS providers, but OptinMonster's conduct has been absolutely unacceptable.

What Happened:

OptinMonster automatically renewed my subscription WITHOUT my explicit authorization
When I contacted them immediately for a full refund, they REFUSED to provide complete reimbursement
Their customer service was unhelpful and dismissive of my legitimate concerns
They seem to rely on these "accidental" renewals as a revenue strategy
The Problems:

Predatory Billing: Automatic renewals without clear, prominent notifications
Poor Refund Policy: Refusing full refunds for unauthorized charges
Unresponsive Support: Customer service that protects company interests over customer rights
Lack of Transparency: Billing practices designed to trap customers
Impact on My Business: As a healthcare professional managing multiple business operations, I need reliable partners, not companies that engage in questionable billing practices. This experience has wasted valuable time and resources that should be focused on patient care.

Recommendation: There are many legitimate alternatives in the market (ConvertKit, Mailchimp, etc.) that respect their customers and have transparent billing practices. Save yourself the headache and choose a company that values ethics over predatory revenue tactics.

To OptinMonster Management: Your billing practices damage your reputation and drive away serious business customers. Consider this review a professional feedback on why your current approach is unsustainable.

I want to sincerely apologize for the frustration and stress this has caused. I know that running a medical practice requires your full attention, and dealing with billing disputes is the last thing you want to be spending your valuable time on.

I want to assure you that "trapping" customers is never our goal at OptinMonster. We generally use auto-renewal to ensure that our customers' live campaigns—and the leads they are collecting—don't suddenly shut down due to a missed invoice date. That said, we believe in fair billing practices. If you reached out immediately following the renewal, we typically have a refund policy in place to handle these exact situations.

I looked into your case specifically, and I am happy to confirm that we did indeed issue a refund in full for that renewal charge.

Sometimes there is a slight processing time between us sending the funds and your bank posting them, or perhaps there was a miscommunication in the support thread, but please rest assured that we have honored your request. We never want to keep your money if you aren't using the tool, and we certainly don't want you to feel "trapped."
