Superb customer support for four year old Atrack backpack.

I have several Ortlieb bags. Recently the t-zip on my Atrack backpack failed. I contacted customer support seeking assistance and was fortunate to encounter Johanna. She arranged for me to send in my backpack for repair. Upon receipt she noticed an issue with the waterproof coating and sent me a brand new Atrack even though mine was four years old. New pack replacement received in 14 days with regular updates from Johanna. Top class customer service.

Ortlieb Water Bag 10 / STARANGE TASTE

Ortlieb Water Bag 10 ltr / STARANGE TASTE

I purchased the water bag in May 2025 for an upcoming kayak trip in Scotland, though from first use the water has a strange 'plasticky' taste even after subsequent boiling.

The bag is relegated to ballast or emergency use only now as I cant live with the terrible tasting water for my tea.

Sadly's Ortlieb UK customer services suggestion was to try some 'bottle bright' cleaner as it was likely caused by external factors.

Will go and try the more expensive MSR Dromodory, Ortlieb's water bag was a poor choice.

23L Velocity defect not dealt with

I purchased the Velocity 23L backpack for £115 and have used it to commute to work for the past 2 weeks. The front, mesh material of the backpack has some deep gouges scored out of it, and while I appreciate the 5 year warranty doesn’t cover general wear and tear, but I think that this is actually some kind of material defect, to the point at which the surface of the mesh material is almost broken after very light use. I have no recollection of putting the bag down on anything at all sharp or jagged at all, which seems like the surfaces most capable of causing some damage like this.

I deliberately purchased the bag through Ortlieb directly so as to have some coverage if the bag was weaker than imagined or if there were any issues. I paid extra over other suppliers for this feature.

For comparison, I've owned a chrome industries bag before now for about 6 years - this doesn't have a scratch on it despite constant use in an identical context of cycling to work, putting the bag down, picking it up and leaving. I'm very disappointed by this product and Ortlieb's response, which just said that this was damage caused in use (again, I stress, the surface should not be THIS damaged after 2 weeks of light use at the most). I will not be dealing with them in the future. Very disappointed!

This type of damage is wear and tear. The damage is purely aesthetic and does not affect the function of the bag. This type of damage can occur with any material when it comes into contact with a sharp object or similar.
We always try to be accommodating and find a solution together. In your case, however, we have no leeway, as this is clearly not a warranty case for us.

That sportpulsion France can't replicate addresses from their own invoices

Sadly I was unable to purchase direct from Ortliebde, instead I was directed to sportpulsion France. Unfortunately their distributor could not dispatch my parcel to the correct address; this was not hard ... it was on the invoice (twice). I should have followed my instincts and ordered the €400 pannier set from Bike24de (& saved 10%). Our address was incorrectly entered on our parcel received. The delivery only went smoothly because I personally intervened.

We have consulted with our colleagues. You placed your order on 13 August and it was shipped by Sportpulsion on 14 August. The shipping company did not work from 15 to 17 August, as 15 August was a public holiday. The service team communicated with you on 14 August and 18 August, reassuring you that the shipment was still on its way and providing you with a tracking number. The shipping company made a mistake with your address in the tracking system, but this did not affect the delivery, which went smoothly.

Ortlieb: Premium Price. Rock-bottom Customer Support

If you’re thinking of buying Ortlieb, you’ll already be aware of the price they expect you to pay.
What you won’t be aware of is the absence of any customer service that comes with it.

I bought a £170 Commuter Bag and a Rack Three—directly from Ortlieb. Two of their own products. Incompatible out of the box.
No warning. No help. No flexibility.

The bag is unused and in perfect condition (photos confirming this sent to Ortlieb). I even offered to pay for new packaging.
They still refused the return—because of a small tear in the cardboard box and a rigid 30-day policy.

DONT BUY ORTLIEB QUICK RACK

DONT BUY ORTLIEB QUICK RACK - OVERPRICED DANGEROUS AND DOES NOT FIT - PLUS If you are UK based then lyon.co.uk the distributor will COMPLETELY IGNORE YOUR ISSUE - I have a 2.1 set of bags and despite what they say IT DONT FIT !!! its DANGEROUS and OVERPRICED and designed to make you buy a new set of bags

MY REPLY TO YOUR ANSWER - Your sugestions are a "bodge" and do NOT work the item is STILL DANGEROUS - I have tried your suggestions and repeatedly messaged your so-called customer service and the reply has still been a bodge and does NOT solve the issue - instead of incorrect responses to my issue why dont you DESIGN IT PROPERLY and NOT sell a prodict designed to sell your latest bag - I do NOT appreciate customer services (bodgers) suggesting that I "ignore their suggestions" - I tried your suggestions and THEY DONT WORK ITS STILL DANGEROUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Outstanding Ortlieb

Outstanding Ortlieb! I bought a seat-pack to cycle through France for 19 days and it has been amazing. I didn’t want panniers as my bike is a carbon mtb and I didn’t want to attach anything to it. This bag was the perfect solution. It was large enough to hold my toiletries, all my clothing and at times I put my sleeping bag liner and travel towel inside. I was also able to attach things on top for quick access. The bag held its position very well high above my back wheel. It was highly durable and it was the best item I could have bought for cycle touring. Well done Ortlieb- an outstanding design.

Very poor service

Ordered via Ortlieb direct and item did not arrive . I actually had to track item to local dealer and then pay again for delivery . Unacceptable ... from both Ortlieb and DPD their default delivery service. I will use resellers in future .

A hardy bag with excellent after sales care

I purchased an Ortlieb rucksack 4.5 years ago for cycle commuting (velocity 23L) and use it at least 5 days a week and it has had a tough life! In the last 6 months the velcro has begun to stop working and last week the chest strap buckle cracked (plastic just deteriorating), I was going to take it to a local repair place but thought I would email Ortlieb first. They couldn't have been more helpful, Martin responded instantly and asked me to ship my bag to a UK address, which I did on Monday. By Thursday morning my bag was back with me, they replaced my closing mechanism with a longer buckle (which actually works much better) and replaced the tired shoulder straps with new ones. It has saved a bag that has plenty of life left from going to landfill and all I had to do was pay the postage. Its an excellent product and an excellent service. Thanks Martin and Ortlieb.

Recently bought an Ortlieb trunk bag to…

Recently bought an Ortlieb trunk bag to go with set of Ortlieb panniers. Horrified to discover that trunk bag fitting is incompatible with Ortlieb panniers on a single rack! Ortlieb advised buying a dual pannier rack at additional cost of circa £ 125!
Very disappointed!!!

Received a reply after 29 MONTHS!!! Made ZERO sense!!!

Horrible customer service

Whilst I'm an existing Ortlieb owner and recognise the quality of their products, I am absolutely horrified with their customer services. I wrote to them recently a couple of different times asking polite queries about particular products I was interested in purchasing and about their repairs services. I got massively rude, dismissive, and totally irrelevant and helpful responses from two different customer service reps. Totally inclined to take all future business elsewhere!! They are by no means the only quality bike bag company out there.

Utter rubbish bicycle bags disintegrate after couple of years. If you Contact Ortlieb customer service they tell you to buy the broken parts yourself as there is a 5 warranty? Great service no more Ortlieb rubbish for me

EDIT: Ortlieb gave me warranty on an old bag, even without receipt.SUPER

I bought a watertight bag with 5 years warranty .
Some years later I found out that it was not totally watertight, as there were tiny holes along the sides of the zipper, apparently from the sewing in of the zipper.
I had lost the receipt but tried anyway to see what Ortlieb would do for me but they referred me to the local importer who referred me to the shop I bought it from and they refused to even look into the matter, as I don't have the receipt.
After renewed complaint to Ortlieb, THEY SENT ME A TOTALLY NEW BAG. They even gave me a choice of colour :-)
