Official Ombudsman decision: Poor service finding & compensation ordered
I rarely leave negative reviews, but after my experience with Patricia White Lawyers & Advocates Ltd, I feel a responsibility to advise others to carry out thorough research before instructing this firm.
Following a lengthy complaint investigation, the Legal Ombudsman issued a Final Decision on 17 March 2026, finding that the firm had provided “poor service” in relation to my litigation matter and directing the firm to pay compensation. This decision is now publicly recorded on the Legal Ombudsman’s published decisions database.
The Ombudsman upheld multiple complaints, finding that the firm:
Failed to establish ownership of disputed land before serving legal documents.
Failed to provide me with important Defence and Counterclaim documents when first received (I did not see these documents until several months after the firm received them).
Allowed only four days for me to respond to complex legal documents that they had held for several months.
Included incorrect items within the claim.
Failed to properly communicate regarding an interim court application.
The Ombudsman concluded that the firm’s service caused distress, frustration, and inconvenience in what was already a highly stressful situation. While the Ombudsman did not find misconduct requiring referral to the regulator, the Final Decision expressly states that poor service occurred and compensation was awarded.
As a client, I found the overall experience extremely stressful and, at times, deeply upsetting.
Clear communication, procedural accuracy, and client confidence are incredibly important in litigation matters, and in my opinion, these standards were not met.
I would strongly encourage anyone considering instructing this firm to read the published Legal Ombudsman decision for themselves. I appreciate that others may have had different experiences, but this was mine, and it is fully supported by an official, published finding.
