Wouldn’t recommend Helen Clift.

Found Helen Clift from Pennymatters off a Facebook page and phoned and had an initial chat about what I wanted last November. Gave all my details and even filled in the forms online on the website regarding affordability and monthly outgoings etc. I also signed up to the credit agency I was asked to do. I was told by email I would get a call back as Helen was busy but never did. Was very disappointed with the service and wouldn’t recommend even though I see the adverts from Helen advertised on the Facebook groups still. I’ve recently completed on my remortgage with another mortgage advisor who was extremely helpful and couldn’t do enough for me.

Is this a scam?

Contacted to discuss pension. Was heavily advised to take critical health insurance. I was assured it included Total Permanent Disability cover. Having reviewed the documents I couldn't see it in there. I called to query. I was assured it WAS included; if I was ever unable to continue my profession it would pay out.
I am now unable to work, the policy has not paid out and Pennymatters argue that TPD was never included on the grounds of affordability. Pennymatters AGREE that the original form had TPD ticked and that is what I was quoted for. I have reached out to the ombudsman for help. In my opinion much of the information Pennymatters provided the ombudsman is either inaccurate or fictitious.
After a year I cancelled the policy and received what I perceive to be a very aggressive phone call asking me if I was going bust and what my problem was. Following this conversation I reinstated the policy as I was assured AGAIN TPD was included, so the policy didn't lapse.
I have had 3 spinal injections, spinal surgery and a new hip in the last 3 years which I had to pay out of pocket for. I am down all the premiums I paid in in good faith that the advice I received was accurate and honest. I took out the policy to protect my family in case the worst should happen and it seems it is not worth the paper it is written on. It feels to me that there is a culture of aggression, dishonesty, and misrepresentation.
August 2024 - Pennymatters contacted me to say I should take an Annuity on my pension, before the new government crashed the economy. When I said I was looking at the other options, I was told there were no options. This is in direct contradiction to their own leaflet describing 3 different options. I ended the conversation only to receive a text asking 'Why all the attitude?' And what was wrong with me, why wouldn't I engage with them. The answer is because AGAIN I feel that representatives from this company were not telling me the whole truth.

I am permanently disabled, reaching the end of my life savings, and the safety net Pennymatters sold to me is nowhere to be seen. I thought I would be safe using an FCA accredited company, this does not appear to be the case.

I was recommended Helen to remortage my house. I was very specific about how much I needed and the deal I wanted, but she kept trying to put me into something else, a longer fixed rate term and a higher rate, and longer mortgage term (the longer mortgage term I understood as they have to comply with FCA regulations to ensure client affordability). I said I wouldn't proceed with her and within two minutes she called me back to offer suitable deal. She advised it would be up to three months (I wasn't moving home). It took ten days.
Just before completetion, I received the completion letter and the figures didn't match up. I called the solicitors and they said it was human error so I went back to her. She wanted me to do all the chasing with the solicitors and funders - surely this is her job? She reapplied and it wasn't too delayed but I wouldn't use them again, I could have got the same rate through my bank and I would do this myself next time.

I'd strongly recommend to reach out to Kate and use her services and advice

My wife and I had an excellent experience with Kate! She went to a great extend to walk us through the procedure, and to advise us, having always in heart what would be in our best interest. She would always try to understand your situation, and will provide you with a range of products that would serve you in the best possible way. First buyers or re-mortgagers, you can't go wrong with Kate!

The best

Having not had any experience on the mortgage market in the UK, Kate has kindly explained the entire the process, with a great deal of details. She was very responsive at all times, really great communication and customer service. She helped us buy our first home in the UK during the time when banks were just returning to giving low deposits mortgages. Her advise was personalized and she really closely looked at our personal circumstances to provide the best option for us at the time.
Thank you, Kate, I cannot recommend you enough to anyone who wants their dream house 😊

Best mortgage broker period

I've been using Kate Mihell at Pennymatters for nearly 10 years and she has always provided a first class and professional customer service. Most recently she helped me with a mortgage during the hectic stamp duty period and never failed to help when it was needed. Needless to say it all went through completely smoothly.
She is genuinely caring of her customers and I couldn't ask for a better broker, hopefully she will be able to help me for many more years to come.
Thank you Kate!
