I had a terrible terrible experience with this company. I have written to them twice and no answer, they tried to flag my comment to shut me up for calling them out.

I was sent an email invoice for £300, which included £50 tax/VAT collected, but when the parcel arrived, the invoice attached to the box showed £252 only, and the customs declaration did not show any tax being paid or declared.

So I was charged 300£, while the shipment paperwork showed another.

I paid 50£ tax to the penshop which was not included in the invoice on the parcel and then I was 77£ custom tax on top of that, because they did not declare the tax collected at POS.

That is not a minor admin error — it is a serious invoice and customs discrepancy, and it completely destroyed my trust in this seller.

I will have to dispute the charge to my bank and file a chargeback for breach of contract, misrepresentation and demanding answers for why I was billed for tax that does not appear on the parcel documentation invoice.

Until this is properly explained and refunded, I would strongly advise other buyers to not use this seller. SAVE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY from these GOBBLERS and use trusted sites only.

I ordered a Lamy pen from penshop.co.uk for around £300. My invoice clearly shows £50.60 listed as “Tax” and the product page showed the price in GBP “incl. VAT”, so I reasonably assumed that was the final UK price.
The parcel was then shipped from Germany (“Penshop WGW – Penshop”) and Royal Mail charged me £59.29 import VAT plus customs duty and a handling fee before they would deliver it. In practice, I ended up paying VAT twice on the same order – once to Penshop at checkout and again to UK customs.
HMRC’s own guidance on “VAT and overseas goods sold directly to customers in the UK” says that for consignments over £135, VAT should be accounted for on import, not charged by the overseas seller at checkout. My order was over this threshold, yet Penshop still took “VAT” from me and left me to deal with import VAT as well.
I’ve asked them to refund the wrongly charged VAT and so far have not received a fair resolution. I have no choice but to raise a dispute with my bank.
Based on my experience, they are misleading the customers, paying the VAT twice, and then no response or solution and flagging my review for calling them out.

IF I AM PAYING VAT AT POINT OF SALE, PENSHOP SHOULD PROVIDE PROPER DOCUMENTATION AND DECLARATION FOR CUSTOMS. which they DIDN'T.
I want a refund, or I'll raise a dispute.
