I appreciate what i was taught, but i made it clear im the only person in my family that rides and i’m not overly experienced, this was taken advantage off massively, i was told to book another lesson and that i wasnt yet ready to do my cbt, even though i was able to shift gears, balance the bike, control the clutch ect..

Due to the fact i was never given a run down on what a cbt consists of, i went by my instructors word and continued to waste money on lessons i did not need, my last lesson i was even put along side two other learning students, i rode in circles for an hour with little to know instructions or teaching.

please. if you are young and just starting out your motorbike journey. you only need one pre cbt to work out if you think you’d enjoy it! your actual CBT instructor will teach you everything on the day.

understaffed and unprofessional when it comes to pre cbts. Book elsewhere

Thanks for leaving a review about your pre-CBT experience. We appreciate you taking the time to leave your review and understand how frustrating it can be to feel like progress is slower than anticipated.

Our CBT instructors are bound by DVSA standards to only progress students when they can demonstrate consistent control of the motorcycle. With this in mind, we advise our students based on the level of competence they’ve achieved and their individual learning trajectory.

Our primary aim as a professional motorcycle training organisation is to ensure every rider has the slow control and technical balance necessary to stay safe once they move onto the road. While this is practiced off-road in the early stages of a CBT course, there are two further on-road elements of the CBT syllabus that limit the time we can take with off-road practice.

We never want a student to feel they are wasting money, but we’ll never compromise on safety or rush students onto the road before they are ready. Our pre-CBT lessons are a more economical way of getting the extra practice needed to develop muscle memory for motorcycle control than re-taking a CBT course if the required level of competence needed for CBT certification isn’t attained on the day.
Regarding your training journey:
• Consistency: Our records show your sessions were spaced several weeks apart (January to April). In motorcycle training, long gaps between lessons mean more time is needed to refresh basic skills like gear changes and balance covered in previous lessons before moving on to advanced CBT elements.
• Safety: During your final session on April 6th, which was overseen by two of our senior instructors, we noted great progress in your circuits. However, it was professionally advised that further work on slow control—necessary for navigating traffic safely—would benefit you before attempting the road element of the Compulsory Basic Training (CBT).
• Our Instruction Methods: We take your comments about riding in circles seriously. However, these drills are essential for developing the muscle memory required for U-turns and figure-of-eights. Our instructors provide active coaching during these maneuvers to ensure students meet the required safety benchmarks.
Please feel free to contact our office so we can clarify any details pertaining to the CBT course and help you find the best path forward for your riding journey.
Safe riding,
The Phoenix Motorcycle Training Team
