Excellent training school

I completed the 2 day DAS course at the Medway / Maidstone training centre. The instructor, Chris was excellent. He was patient and knowledgeable and I leaned a lot from him. I was even able to practice the module one manoeuvres in the test centre, which really helped my preparation.

The bike I practiced on was new and in great condition.
I would recommend this training school.

Phoenix and Sam all the way!!!!!!!

Absolutely fantastic staff in the office really helpful

And Sam seems to be the trainer for the job, every time I had him, I past. He is friendly and a laugh to be around doesn’t shout if you make a mistake and I feel he genuinely cares about the result given at the end.

I have spoken to both Mark and Helen in the office and they want the best for you they go that extra mile to try and get the test booked and offers a half day training before hand to give you the best chance to pass.

I personally recommend the ME5 training and testing centre, as from personal experience I found my stress levels get up during time of test, this doesn’t mean that I am incapable of riding or my road knowledge is poor but when there is somebody riding behind me with the rights to give me access to the life I want 😂😂 or to make me retake it, sometimes I find myself overthinking things because of this.
I failed a number of times due to my overthinking, just remember that the tester is also a motorcyclist and wants you to be on the road as much as you do, my main reasoning for choosing the Maidstone test centre was because it’s more out in the sticks where as the Erith centre is in London and very busy so you have a lot more to contend with you know deep down that you can deal with it but when it’s on test it is very nerve wracking and you also have to do a roundabout where in which there is a lane you are not allowed in at all being the Lorry Lane in the horse roundabout in Belvidere which you a hundred percent will face if you get tested in Erith. This was my A2 and A license experience

CBT training

I went in for my CBT training and was greeted by friendly and professional staff. Shane was my instructor and took me and two others to a training area to learn. He was very helpful and would always point out anything we did wrong individually, and where we could improve. Plus he wouldn't make anyone do anything they weren't comfortable with. Overall an amazing experience!

Direct Access

I did the direct access with the guys and couldn't have been happier with the training and how both tests went. I felt really well prepared going Into both modules of the test, passed both first time and I can only attribute that to all the training and advice given by the guys. 10/10 service! Would recommend to anyone!

Overall I would say the experience was OKAY

Overall I would say the experience was “Okay”. I had a full license training having spent 4 years on a 125cc bike with over 30000 miles experience. I spent 2 days training with 3 days doing my tests in total.
The admin team were fantastic, very kind and helpful. And two of my three instructors were very pleasant, and I enjoyed having them teach me that being Nick Brown and Sam Roodenburgh. However, my third instructor and the instructor I unfortunately had the majority of my time was Chris White who I was not a big fan of from the get-go. Chris tended to make a great many jokes that I found to be highly inappropriate. One of the first things he said to me, and my fellow trainee was “I hope neither of you are ‘snowflakes’ " which I thought was a great introduction. I found that his training style was often quite harsh and unforgiving, often resorting to mockery in order to motivate an individual, I guess??? He would make a great many jokes that could be contrived to jab at the female gender. While I’m not female myself, and neither was the other trainee, I could see how this could be offensive, if either of us were. “Ok whatever, I have a few days of these unfunny sexist jokes and I can be on my way” was my thinking at the time. However, on the day of my Mod 2, infact during the Mod 2 (show me tell me) Chris decided to make his greatest joke yet. After accidentally leaving my bag in the DVSA Test Centre Office door, an administrator asked me to remove it. I quickly apologised and removed my bag from the premise. Chris knowing that I am Irish, now comes up with his funniest joke to date “You can’t leave you bag there, it’s a bomb threat, I know you’re Irish.” I looked at him dead in the eyes to which he replies, “It’s a joke.” Being openly racist towards a minority is not excused by it being a joke.
On top of that it happened during my Mod 2. Talk about getting me in the correct headspace.
Again, my other two instructors were fantastic, and I really got along with them. Aswell as the admin team who helped with the booking process ect.
As for other little gripes I had, and I’m talking very little:
• On the first day the heat was 28C and I did not feel as if I was given enough time throughout the day to drink. When the day ended I quickly rushed to the nearest shop to get some more fluids.
• The online description for the location is very misleading. It makes it initially seem as if it’s located in Maidstone when it’s really located in Chatham. It also says it’s a “five-minute walk from town centre”. That’s a pretty fast walking pace of around 60mph
After passing my full A license and reflecting upon my training I believe my experience was probably worse then what most people would have. And I would say that it is most likely a good place to get your license. But simply basing it off my experience I cannot give it any higher review.

First of all, very well done on passing your motorcycle test with Phoenix. I hope its not too long before you enjoy riding your bike. I am sorry you were not able to gel with Chris is the same way you did with the other instructors or the office staff. Humor is an important technique used to enhance the learning process and is something that needs to be taken in the context it was delivered and is often in the hear and now and not something to be dwelled upon. Your other points about the number of breaks is valid and record temperatures of the days you were training, were exceptional. We do need to strike a balance between the number of breaks and the training you need (ie time on the bike) as it gives you the best opportunity ready for your tests.

Great service I passed so was trained well, great team of guys/girls.
Great equipment to train on.
My only criticism I believe it would be better to work with one trainer through your whole training experience rather than I had 5 different.

Great riding school, Big up Sam, Chris and Steve

Great riding school - Chris and Sam were great, both really supportive throughout the process, helped me really develop as a rider.

Steve in the office, I can only say kind words for, really nice when I failed my Mod 1 and got me another booked in ASAP in Gillingham against all odds.

Overall Phoenix was an amazing experience. Highly recommended for any rider!

The instructor (Shane) was excellent on the day and if I were rating Shane this would be five stars.

Unfortunately, I didn’t find the company good to deal with and only booked my CBT with them because with a lack of places available I was able to book it online via the website.
Booking via the website turned out to be absolutely necessary because the company didn’t answer the phone or messages.
The communication leading up to the course was very negative and whilst trying to impart confirmation and what to bring gave lots of ways to lose your booking and money. I therefore felt the company went from no communication to negative communication, not a good look.

Another minor but very irritating thing was that the learner has to bring their own 3.5mm jack headphones (without microphone) probably due to COVID (despite the fact the hire out helmets so there are double standards there, unless they can charge for the hire of helmets), again there is an email that says if you don’t bring them you lose your booking and money. It would be far easier for the company to buy a crate load of cheap ones for a couple of pounds each and sell them on the day or provide it free built in to the training cost.

There are parts of the CBT back at “base” for discussion and a welcome break off the bike, unfortunately this is done in a storage unit in a Kent Space warehouse. This feels cheap to me, there are meeting rooms at Kent Space and they would have been more appropriate and a cup of tea aids the concentration. The company doesn’t even have a kettle (obviously because it is a lock up) simple things that leave a bad experience of everything other than the instructor.

Because of the total lack of communication early on I am now doing my Direct Access with their competitor and so instead of saving any money buy not having staff to answer the phone and messages they have lost several hundred pounds multiplied by the number of people like me.

A great instructor, potential for a great overall experience ruined by the company.

Excellent

Great instructors, nice and easy to talk to and ask questions, polite and don’t panic and left you know when they aren’t happy with something but also explain why and how to correct it!

Will be back!
