Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the service, describing it as "flakey and clumsy," and frequently failing to work as claimed, leading to various issues with transactions and account management. Customers also encountered significant problems with the user experience, finding it difficult to connect accounts, with the system often refusing to complete processes or breaking links, forcing repeated reconnections. The website and login service were frequently criticized for not working, denying verification, or incorrectly stating credentials were wrong. A significant number of consumers were also not happy with the customer service, reporting that it is difficult to speak with a human agent, with support often being handled by unhelpful bots. This lack of human support leaves users unable to resolve issues, especially when facing problems with payments or account verification. Some people also felt that the company does not care about the consumer, focusing instead on large institutions.

How Plaid is ending easy transfers for everyone.

If I was a financial institution I'd do everything NOT TO work with Plaid. There are constant errors, what once worked perfectly now falls apart almost every time. What once was a few second money transfer is now a multi hour ordeal full of strange errors, misleading messages, and ultimately failed transfers and locked bank accounts requiring multiple support calls. This occurs 90% of the time I have to do a money transfer. Today, yet again I'm unable to transfer money because Plaid decided my Tangerine username is wrong, after it hanged 5 times trying to relink my bank and Wise, even though I cut and pasted this number and checked it a 100 times. Plaid gives you this error telling you to check this number and and try again. You click on try again but it doesn't give you a chance to correct the number (if it was incorrect). It sends you to the page where you have to input your security code AFTER you logged into your bank. And then your bank calls you 5 seconds later with another 2-step verification code which Plaid accepts but gives you an error that your bank username as entered is incorrect. How do you break this cycle, re-enter the number, it's hard to know... it's Plaid. No rules apply. A few days ago while I was outdoors, I received a 2 step verification code by phone even though I wasn't trying to transfer money that day. I got very nervous. More nervous still when I received an email from Wise telling me that my bank details have changed so my bank Tangerine, told them (Wise) to unlink Wise and Tangerine. In case you are wondering that is EXACTLY what it would look like if someone broke into your bank account or was trying to (unsolicited 2-step verification phone call, followed by a notice that your banking details have changed). Was it, though? No, it was just Plaid doing its thing, nobody knows what. Wise support was completely confused and sure Tangerine send them this message, and Tangerine, also confused, swore that no such message was sent, as they were dealing with hundreds of calls that day from freaked out clients. And, no, Plaid didn't think this behaviour warranted any explanation to anyone - institutions or clients. Just another day of doing business with Plaid. So, seriously: avoid. I will be forced to leave Tangerine, Wise or both to avoid this incompetent 3rd party troublemaker. When everything is working fine, you can always find an incompetent company that tries to interject itself in the middle and mess everything up. That's Plaid for you in a gist.

If I could give this service a zero I…

If I could give this service a zero I would. The worst company ever and a lot of coding issues. They stated my name on my account was not matching my debit card which is false and failed to approve me for a company that I have been doing business with over a year. All of a sudden, I am a bad guy and not trustworthy since I am not who I say I am. What a joke. The company that I have been dealing with for way over a year is agreeing with them and no longer want to do business with me. So guess what, Good bye company and loss of my income as well to them.

Plaid is a SCAM

Stay away from Plaid. They collect all personal financial records, take complete control of your bank accounts & you can't even log into your banking accounts. What they do you have no idea what they are doing.

Plaid Collects Your Entire Financial History

Plaid’s data collection policies are insanely invasive. Be aware that any time you link an account with Plaid, Plaid collects your entire transaction history for everything linked to those credentials. If you’ve used the same bank for years, and link an account with Plaid, they collect every single transaction, bank statement, and credit card statement. Every single payment you’ve ever made with that account, Plaid knows.

It’s outrageously invasive, and completely unnecessary to the service it provides. We used to be able to link our bank accounts without giving our entire financial history over to some third party tech company, but unfortunately many banks are now working with Plaid. If you value your privacy even the tiniest bit, I highly recommend you never use Plaid’s services.

I never had problems with my bank before PLAID…

I never had problems with my bank account until this fool service got hooked up with it. Before, I could transfer money from the bank (with PLAID services) to another already verified bank. Now, it tells me I have to "verify account." And THAT wouldn't be a problem if the screen requesting a code input didn't take up the entire screen space. It says they have deposited $.01 into my checking account and to retrieve the 3-character code next to the #symbol in that account. Great. Except, when I try to navigate to my checking acct to check on that, I get a message saying, "Are you sure you want to exit?" ?!?!?! Ok, so I tried again on my browser, instead of on the mobile app. Same thing...whole screen is the code request with no way to navigate away from it. No problem! I have my cell phone. So I go to look for the deposit and the accompanying code. Only, there is no deposit and no code!!! Plaid is utterly useless. If my bank does not disengage itself from Plaid, I will likely close that bank account. Plaid is not a good look for a worthy business.

Horrible

Horrible. I created an account to test out the platform and now can't even delete it after just 30 seconds of being on the platform. Apparently I have to cut on 2 factor authentication by supplying my number and downloading the app. Yes, you read that correctly. In order to delete my information, I must first supply more information. I can't reach out to the CS team due to the 2 factor authentication. The account is virtually useless. I'm not interested in anything from this company.

Connection Issue

The most unprofessional company I have ever encountered. They have 1,300 employees but no customer service department. They point fingers at the other parties, without actually digging into the problem. I have spent hours on the phone with my bank and the property manager and the company they use… and they all blame Plaid for a connection issue. They are unable to fix a simple connection issue that is a nationwide bank used by millions of Americans… yet their business model is keeping our money safe? Unreal.

Log in was a joke!!

Log in was a joke!!

It would ask me to insert a code that was text to my phone. Only you have 15 seconds to do it and it takes 12 seconds for them to send the damn text!!!

So by the time you are entering the number the code has expired.
Also after all that it doesnt even have access to City National Bank!! What’s the point???

I cannot login with the extremely…

I cannot login with the extremely complicated and stupid login in sequence to try to be allowed to use Venmo. It tells me to login using my bank ID. It kicks me out. I login to my bank and it works. Plaid kicks me out a dozen times and I gave up and used Zelle instead. It has done this to me the last three times and I will not be using Venmo again because Plaid totally screws everything up.

Aggravating user experience

My user experience is pretty bad with plaid. A number of my apps use plaid to connect to banking. When plaid pops up to do stuff, it's usually slow and crashes all the time. A lot of times it crashes at bank log in. It does find the bank website, but won't log in even when I'm certain credentials are correct.

Their website and password reset. I know I have account with plaid. I reset password and it takes forever to get reset email. It said "email sent successfully". So it's recognizing my user info?

To sum up, user experience with it is aggravating.
