I am absolutely furious after receiving…
I am absolutely furious after receiving a £100 parking fine for using the car park at Planet Ice, which I was completely unaware was a paid car park. I visited with several children for a party, and neither I nor my partner were informed that the parking was not free. Apparently, the car park is owned by Premier Parking, but this was NOT made clear to us when we entered Planet Ice.
I’ve since been told there are signs everywhere, but these signs were not clearly visible to me or the other members of our party. If we had been properly informed about the parking charges, we would have gladly paid the £2 or whatever the fee was.
It’s completely unreasonable that something as important as parking charges isn’t communicated to customers. It takes literally two minutes to mention this at the desk, especially when taking money from people, so there’s no excuse for the lack of clarity. The fact that I’ve now received a fine for something I wasn’t informed about is scandalous.
This experience has completely soured my opinion of Planet Ice. You’ve lost my business, and I’m sure you’ve lost the business of many others who’ve been caught out by this. If Planet Ice isn’t going to take responsibility for properly informing customers, you’re going to lose even more in the future.
This is a massive oversight and a complete failure in customer service. I am beyond angry, and I will be sharing my experience with others to make sure they don’t fall into the same trap.

I'm went in to the reception before the session starts their is a old lady sitting there. The first wold she is said to as is we closed soon the next session is 12:30. No wold of Hello how are you? Before I can open my mouth too ask her Questions all I want to ask is my friend Daughter not booking can she play here and get in when my session starts . What she do is not well coming to the guess . No say hello or asking did we have a book .
Then we when to the cafe standing there over 20min no one at the cafe so I when to asked the reception is the cafe closed as well so she said you can go in and buy the drinks inside and bring it outside here. so we went to another cafe inside again on one there we ring the bell more than twice no since of any people there ring the bell again 4-5time on one so we about to leave this young girl coming out telling us that she take only card payments I don't understand why if you don't take cash why don't you put the side up so customers will know . Then I have to tell her that cause you have to go another side because my bank card is in my bag then we finally got our drinks.
When the session start we queue up for the shoes as I ask for the was the wrong size turned up for swap too a different size . This 3 little shit in the Queue was mocking me twice so I turn around asking them where is your mum the young girl that mocking me behind my back say she is not here then they laughed at me so I decided just ignoring them
Twice they doing it. I when up tell the guy behind the shoe counter telling him he turn around oh it sad it's. Well shock that what your staff said to me.
Then again that girl in the group of the three kids started saying something about me so my Daughter asked her what you said about my mum I'm about to start skating see the girls starting shouting at each other so I have to tell them to stop then they went off. Again I when and tell the same guy at the shoes counter all his said is who? Tell him with kids so that guy when over too that thee kids don't know what he's said then it stop for abit. After that it happened again the young boy in the three kids started skating around and shouted funny annoy to all the girls that come with me so again I when up asking for a Manager he said go speak to the lady at the reception.
I went to the reception make a complaint to this lady she claimed that she is a Manager tell her what happened all she said is the guy in the shoes counter he is by he self so I think what to do with my complaint if you short of staff why don't you call another people in to work. Then she didn't say anything all she said is I have been sent some one over already to sort it out for you.
I walked in the skating area after I complan WOW Don't know where this bunch of staff coming from 2of them taking too that thee kids still don't know what they had side to that kid it stop for wide and that three kids started giving a middle finger 🖕to one of the girls that had come with me so I just give up tell the girls in my Group to ignore them.
Finally I just walk out sitting at the cafe with my older daughter and I find out that bucn of that three kids know the staff in there that why No body would take that three kids out.
clearly this place is discrimination and let another kids insults another kids mocking me this is not acceptable so quick of talking my money out of my bank account but can't sort the customer complan out properly after things happen again and again and again .
Why you have a policy for? First time and only time you will get money out of me
Not a friendly or tolerant place to…
Not a friendly or tolerant place to learn on patch ice. Apparently figure skaters and their coaches have priority which gives them the right to purposely skate in your way and shout at you to move if you don't get out of their way quick enough. It doesn't matter where you go to practice on the patch ice they will not respect your right to learn to ice skate. My son was constantly being shouted at by these people. He can skate already but wanted to improve so he can join a ice hockey team, but obviously we will have to look at other venues now.
Disgusting and an absolute rip off!
Disgusting and an absolute rip off!! £18 each to get in, £7.50 per hour to hire equipment. The whole place is filthy, hasn't been cleaned for months, ice was black and dirty in parts, every surface had a build up of muck!
The skates were torn and filthy, staff were miserable too.
Don't waste your money going here, we left within half an hour, never going back.
Saved up for a half term treat for my autistic son, so disappointed and now skint!!
So much queuing and not much skating!
Booked 12:45-2:45. Arrived 12:30 to find long queue outside. Joined this and it took 10 minutes to get inside to have code taken at reception (wonder if this could be automated to save queuing?) then joined absolutely massive queue to get skates (40 mins) and more queues for lockers (which should be free). Just for an hour and a bit on the ice, as we had to get off early to get in the really massive queue again to get our shoes back. Really badly run place. Need way more people working there. Will not return.

I wouldn't recommend this venue to anyone. It is unsafe. Our visit on 7th December was very unpleasant from having to stand outside in the awful wind and rain for a long period of time to then queueing for skate hire. During a session we had booked from 2pm until 4pm, we only actually had less than one hour on the ice. The ice rink was so busy with no segregation for inexperienced skaters or families with small children it was a risk to health and safety. Many falls were witnessed as a result of this over crowding. Awful experience. Having been to Telford and Tamworth ice rinks before where we had great experiences I will never entertain this venue again. It's dangerous and unpleasant.
Hot chocolate slander
Horrendous. There's about a quarter cream in the hot chocolate and only 3 quarters of the actual drink. Actually scrap that, there's a quarter and a half of cream. Appalling and shocking behaviour.
Worst ice rink operator in existence
It amazes me that a company whose sole business is to run ice rinks, fails so miserably at its purpose. All the Planet Ice rinks that I have been to are in terrible condition. Ice surfaces are full of bumps and lumps, some rinks have massive gaps between the ice and the boards, changing facilities are so disgusting you never know what disease you'll come away with.
This is not just an experience of one rink, but those in Basingstoke, Solent, Gillingham, Peterborough and Bristol.

Attended for an ice hockey game for my daughter, kept waiting outside for the best part of an hour as not allowed in due to figure skating going on- planet ice had double booked, can’t even get a coffee, ridiculous.
Planet Ice Basingstoke rink
I wouldn't trust Plant Ice to run a bath, let alone trust it with the nation's ice rinks!
The facility is now mostly condemned, which is not their fault, however a systemic lack of investment means the changing rooms are covered in mould, the showers have been shut off, the Zamboni is decrepit it can no longer cut the ice and the ice pad is so bad that two hockey players have broken their ankles in last few weeks!!
They charge nearl £400/hour for the privilege of using this facility.
We have yet to hear from Michael PETROUIS whether he is proud of his achievement but it is blatantly apparent that he is not running this company for the good of the nation. Having used a lot of his facilities this story is common throughout his business.
Very poor customer service
My daughter is currently registered for an 18 week course for ice skating lessons. I have tried to change her lessons to another day as she now has other commitments starting on the same day and I was told this isn’t possible without even looking into it. I would understand the if there was some structure to the lessons but it’s like they wing it every week. Last week her lesson time was changed to a later time without any notification which meant she had lost a weeks lessons. On one of her previous terms they tried to end her lessons by a week early, I had to evidence the start date before they accepted their mistake. My daughter has been attending ice skating lessons here for a year but this term will be her last.

** Disability Awareness Course Required for Mikey, the Manager of Widnes Planet Ice **
Took my 11 year old daughter here for her usual weekly skate lesson. Two weeks ago she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, resulting in a horrendous 2 weeks of countless injections and 24/7 monitoring and multiple daily injections for the rest of her life.
I was unable to get internet inside the rink to monitor her level. Asked staff if I could log on to their wifi in order to keep her safe, was told no by a very rude and unhelpful manager named Mikey. I explained the severity of the situation and how if she wasn't monitored she could go into a hypo and collapse. Still would not provide wifi password. I asked if I could leave the app with the receptionist (as there was signal at reception) and perhaps she could give me a shout if the phone alarmed - again, told no.
Helpful Mikey suggested I stand in reception for 2 hours monitoring the phone leaving my daughter alone on the rink, even though under 13s aren't allowed on without supervision. The rest of the staff are lovely, but Mikey could do with some training in disability awareness and customer service.
I am trying to show my daughter how living with this life long condition doesn't have to change her world and how we can still do all the things we have always done - and then you come across someone like Mikey who refuses to put himself out even slightly.

Expensive, run down, uncomfortable and very blunt skates making it impossible to skate properly. Absolute embarrassment of a facility compared to what other European countries/USA has.
According to a former employee, they don't want to spend money on new skates or blades so they leave them blunt. This also means they hire out more penguins as inevitably the inexperienced kids can barely stay upright on blades blunter than butter knives.
