Worst experience ever!!! For a 5 star resort their service is appalling. Lots of problems and lack of information, not interested with complaints and not even offering compensation for the leaked room... See more

The word "resort" is overused, as is the word "spa". Find out what they really mean. Plantation Bay offers one of the largest privately-owned waterways in the world, set amid timeless architecture with a "down-home" feel. Yet, given our proximity to the Third Mactan Bridge, we are only 30 minutes from Cebu City or the airport- a convenience no other Mactan resort can claim. Our staff are not just polite, but genuinely caring; our service, not merely professional, but personal. We do not rely on marble lobbies or trendy gimmicks, but on comfort, spaciousness, and old-fashioned hospitality. And for those who travel on their stomachs- we are a foodie destination. From authentic Filipino dishes lovingly prepared, to contemporary international cuisine executed with flair, our chefs deliver consistency, creativity, and taste in equal measure. Plantation Bay. Discover how good a resort and spa can really be, when words are matched by reality.

Gobsmacked! What Horrible, Nasty Customer Service!!

I’m leaving this hotel a 1 star review because of the response we just received from their general manager! My husband and I stayed there a while ago with our children. We were living and working in Thailand for a year and decided to take a diving holiday to the Philippines and we stayed at Plantation Bay. There was an unfortunate leak though and my Dior bag was ruined when water came in through an exterior wall.
Anyway, my husband left a review on here a few days ago. Here’s what he wrote::
“It's a nice enough hotel so the two star rating is maybe unfair but my wife's Dior bag was in a cupboard in the room which somehow god flooded when it rained. The bad was sheepskin and it god stained really badly and ruined! It cost £1,500 for the bag and we were really not happy that they didn't offer any sort of compensation.”
To my horror, here is the condescending, cheeky and downright insulting reply from their general manager::

Plantation Bay GM, General Manager at Plantation Bay Resort And Spa, responded to this review:
Dear TripAdvisor Reader:

Reading between the lines, it would seem that this review must have been posted to placate a wife who was nagging the husband for other reasons in 2015, and it is unfortunate that we should be made the whipping boy in a marital disagreement, by a wife who enjoys raking up the past.

Our records show that in 2008, in response to the wife's allegations that we were responsible for damaging her expensive handbag, our Duty Managers and Front Office Manager met with her. Given her admission that they live in Thailand, we frankly did not believe her claim that it was a GBP 1500 designer bag, and she was unable to produce any evidence of its value or provenance. As some readers may know, sheepskin is not commonly used to make quality handbags, since it is too soft to hold a shape.

The unfortunate reality is that certain guests try to turn a minor misfortune into a windfall profit. We get a few cases like this every year. It is always expensive designer bags that are damaged, never the $10 Thai counterfeits. Nonetheless we offered various alternatives for compensating her, but she was adamant that she not only wanted GBP 1500 for the bag, but also their entire 17-day stay to be free of charge. We did not agree.

Still, we thank this person for the review. We appreciate that he was honest enough to admit that he liked our resort and found the Spa outstanding.

Sincerely,
Efren P. Belarmino
General Manager

I just can’t believe this, can you? How rude can you be to your customers? We will be leaving reviews all over social media and Trust Pilot now. What a horrible little man!
For your information, my bag was authentic sheepskin Dior, purchased in Kensington, London not Thailand. You clearly know as much about bags as you do about customer service as Sheepskin is commonly used in Dior bags. It was their “Cuttling” bag, made from tan coloured sheepskin and we did in fact have a certificate of authenticity. We just didn’t happen to have the receipt with us in holiday!

You are also blatantly lying. We were never offered any compensation. You say you offered us our 17 day stay for free and that is just a complete lie. We were not offered any sort of compensation.

The bottom line is your hotel is built from sub-standard materials and when it rains, the water actually pours in through the walls. Unfortunately, my bag was sitting on the floor in the wardrobe and it was ruined through no fault of my own.

Your disrespectful attitude and patronising remarks just go to show what a horrible little man you actually are and I hope my reviews will cost you more than the compensation you refused us in guests who decide not to stay there.

I will be leaving reviews about Plantation Bay all over the internet now. I’ve never been so insulted. What a repugnant little man, just an unbelievable reply.
