I was pushed to get this card for work - a whole other financial nightmare there. Opened the account in November 2022 and requested to cancel on March 26, 2023. Waited the required 60 days and contacted Plastk as to when I would be receiving my security deposit back. They proceed to tell me that I had to wait until June 26, 2023 as this is the date they had on file for my 60 days. I had to provide the proof that it should be May 26, 2023. Needless to say, I am now hearing a lot of similar issues with others. This company should be held accountable but they are not. I am out $500.00. DO NOT USE PLASTK. You can obtain secured credit cards elsewhere. I am now afraid how this is going to affect my credit rating - worried that they have all my credit information as well and my account is still open after months of requesting it closed. Can't even reach someone by phone either.

I cancelled my card in March, they asked to wait 60 days to settle any potential charges before releasing the deposit. I have been begging them for so many weeks, endless emails.
I still haven't received anything.

had this card for 6 month or so. didnt report to credit bureaus and had stacks of fees and stuff. massive scam.
took 4-5 months to cancel and all the while they were charging me fees. finally had to call better business bureau and hassled them a lot. they finally cancelled.

This is one of the worst credit card companies ever; providing a small deposit of $300, but they add so many fees, including a processing fee for using the credit card. I voiced my opposition to the fee. I cut up the card last fall.
Then In April 2023, they offered a plan where they waived the fees if I paid an amount owning, and they would update my Equifax and Transunion, which they haven't done at all even through I paid the principal amount, owing.
No wonder they are getting bad press right now as they are the worst company that I have delt with

Been trying for months now to cane the card. First took 3 days of emailing stating want to cancel. Finally they state "60 days" and will be refunded.
Still nothing. Evrry week, am emailing to get info, only to get same excuse every single time. "OH, it's been escalated to back end."
Yeah right.
Now contacting fraud dept, stating what they have done.
Going to be contacting parliament also.
RCMP will also be informed.

Again I wish I could give out negative stars. I have been chasing Plastk since October 2022 to return my $500 deposit. They have responded with the same thing over and over that it's been escalated to Senior management and prioritized. We were told on Tuesday, June 6 to expect a call from the Returns Team in 2 days. They haven't called. When I emailed them again, this was the reply "It is to inform you that we have already forwarded the concern to our manager for further assistance. As the manager is out of the office for a few days as soon as he will be back we will assist you accordingly.
Rest assured as I have forwarded the request will keep you updated soon as I will follow up with the higher management." I followed up yesterday and got this response "
We really appreciate your patience in this matter. We have escalated it to the relevant department to release your refund soon. We will update you via email once we have an update." This will be added to my collection of correspondence which promises a callback or a return of my deposit. I feel bad for the staff because I know that their responses are a directive from "Senior Management" who throw their frontline staff to the wolves.
So long and short of it, these guys are crooks. I have initiated complaints with the Better Business Bureau, the FCAC and the Consumer Protection Boards of BC and Alberta. Do not, I repeat, Do not, sign up for a Plastk card. There are plenty of options out there which are legitimate and will help you. I fear I will be out $500 but if there are any others out there in the same situation, please post and help me warn unsuspecting customers.

It was the most horrible experience in my life applying for a card to Plastk. Guys, stay out of them to protect your money and save yourself from harassment. Immediately after applying for the card and sending my security deposit, I asked them to cancel my card and send me a full refund. My request was processed, but I never received my money back. Then I reached out to them and they mentioned that there would be a 6-month wait. Although, that 6 months have passed, I never received that refund. I kept contacting them and they kept promising a refund. That never happened. I realized that this company is running their operations in such a way that is not professional and ethical. Upon realizing that I would never get that refund, I asked them to send me to reactivate my account and mail the card to me. After receiving the card, I started getting questionable charges that did not make any sense. Upon realizing the horrible situation that I am trapped in, I asked them to cancel my card. As usual, my request was processed, but my account is still not canceled. They keep hitting my account with questionable charges. Not to mention the monthly fees. The customer support confirmed that they would keep charging fees until the card is canceled. Well, my friends, It's been more than 2 months or so, my account is still active and I am paying those questionable charges. I do not think that they would cancel my account ever, and keep hitting me with these questionable fees and charges. My fellow citizens, please, stay out of this company, and spread this all over, so no one else has to go go through their torture. Thank You

First and Foremost: The company responded to my review in the most professional manner. Second they are a new company on the market and adjusting to the unjust.. (they are backed by another company and the relationship was not the best,, they are transitioning to find alternative).
No fees are hidden they are in the disclosure agreement.
Hoping they soon will be able to find more ATM that can be used without the high ATM fees which will allow deposits.... to down your credit ... or add to security funds.
It does report to equifax.
I have not used the card to date... only to activate the PIN. I had to do this because the PIN on the paper didn't peal correctly.
I'm wondering how many other people had issues with this..
$10.00 ABM fee in addition to the $3.50 ABM fees adds up.. if many people are activating their PIN using at ABM. Not sure if you have to if the PIN on the paper works.
So far the charges I've had
$48 annual fee x 2 (they say they will refund still waiting)

International purchases have a fee of $4.50 per transaction.

I have not used the card. I had no choice but the do a cash withdrawl to activate the PIN.
I sent and etransfer for the $100.00 to avoid the withdrawl interest charges that occur after 3 days. My bank I sent if from says it was deposited so I have to see how long until it shows on the account.
The etransfer arrived within 30 minutes of it saying it was deposited by my other bank.
I will update that when recevied.. curious to see if they delay it by days to charge me interest on the cash withdrawl I had no choice over.
Inconvenient access to no charge ATMs. Office buildings only open during limited building hrs in the Toronto area.
If did take a long time to get the card after sending the security deposit.
If the PIN you receive does not work, peals off incorrectly you have to call them, they will send an email for you to reset your PIN.... followed by .. having to find an plus ATM.
The email instructions to reset the email are confusing. It says to go to your website on a brower and card management, but have your app open to receive notification code. The notification pops up but no code ever appears.
You have to withdrawal money (High interest rate after 3 days on cash withdrawls) to finish the PIN activation process.
You cannot deposit money to your account through an ATM.
In the Toronto area only 2 of the ATMS are available for withdrawals without the high fees charged by other ATMS, $3.50 .. to use their ATMS. TD for Example will charge $3.50 per withdrawal.
I'm not sure if the same activation of the PIN is necessary if the Initial pin works for you. The email response from representatives is prompt, and this is a bonus; however, they neglect to answer the specific questions you ask.
I was asking questions like can I make a deposit to active the PIN. Only two or three emails of asking the same questions did I finally get a proper response.
I figure its a simple matter of not reading the email fully and assuming they have the answer, responding quickly and without too much thought. Once again the response is prompt and that's a bonus.
The card looks nice has your name on the front. It's a secured card and it's great if your credit is trash. If you want a high credit level I would send a high initial amount of money as the process is slow.
Not sure how to increase the security funds. Hoping it won't be as slow as the initial amount.
Watch your transactions as I noticed a double annual fee charge. It was charged twice.... ! They are looking into reversing it. I would keep track of everything as the trust level is a little unknown at this point.
I do know hey are seeking another company to support them as a relationship with another company has fallen apart however a judge ordered the other company to continue to provide the service. I think until they can find someone else.
I think the main bonus is the quick response from a representative.
As I progress in using this card I will update the review.

In March the whole system went down for weeks. This resulted in me not having access to funds while on holiday, causing me to have to borrow money to eat. In addition, several pre-authorized payments did not go through and I had to pay hundreds in late fees and penalties. There was no compensation for this whatsoever. I am getting rid of this card, but I decided I should use the points I had banked before I do, so I converted them to cash. Of course, there is another issue with the points to cashed conversion and I lost my points and the cash. So, in short, dont get this card.

I have heard this before. I understand that you didn't shut down your system for two weeks on purpose. The point is you did nothing whatsoever to compensate your clients who were negatively impacted by the disruption. For example, since I had set up some automatic payments on the card, they didn't go through and I ended up paying hundreds in late fees.
My issue this time is that I cashed in my points but didn't get any cash back. The whole reason I got this card is for the cash back, and now you took my points and I didn't get the cash. It's been over a week and I just keep getting 'we're looking into it's emails when I inquire. Clearly, given that there have been two major issues in three months and you do nothing to help or compensate your clients, is a good indication that no one should get this card.

I am one of the victim having my deposit of $1000 being held longer than their actual 90days after closure policy.
I am 3 months in still waiting for my refund.
I find it hard to believe that in Canada we allow this kind of company to even exist and as consumers we are not protected or supported on where our money went and how to get it back.
I am genuinely surprised that credit karma recommended Plastk and for me not knowing Plastk but believing in credit karma was the biggest mistake I’ve made.

If I could give a negative star review, I would. I wanted a quick credit card to use to build credit, and I applied to Plastk. Fine. Secured with $300. Fine. I used it for 1 year, and decided that it wasn't for me. Numerous charges by them that couldn't be explained. I called to have it cancelled, and my original $300 security sent back. This was 7 months ago. They keep telling me that it is in for processing. What a load of crap.

Quite frankly I am surprised they have 1.7 overall. If I could give them no stars I would. I sent them money for a card on March 8, 2023. Still haven't heard anything except excuses and answers from auto bots. I wish I had listened to everyone else on here. Whatever you do, DO NOT give your money to them period. It took 14 months to close my account and in that time they did more damage to my credit score than any good they ever could. I went to the bank company that bought them out to resolve my problem but by then they had decimated my credit score with missed payments. Customer service is the worst and they over charged my account by hundreds of $$$ STAY AWAY, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT USING THIS COMPANY

They are working off some scam script. I requested an immediate refund and was told I had to wait 60 days (shameful with today's modern technology). I sent them my money in minutes and they need 60 days to return it? It's now been 67 days and I continue to get the run-around. I'll likely never see my money again. Do not do business with this company or you will regret it. They are either fraudulent or incompetent.
Update: 71 days. Still no refund. Phone number just gives automated reply.

Update: 94 days. Still no refund.

STAY AWAY! This is by FAR the worst company I've ever dealt with. They hurt my credit and state online they will return your funds within 60 days of closing the account. You can never get through on the phone. Im going on 200 days since my account was officially closed and still waiting on getting my money back. Ive contacted a lawyer, the BBB and consumer protection. They should not get away with what they do to people!
