Playnite is without doubt the best…
Playnite is without doubt the best software for keeping track of your game collection. Strange it's not getting more reviews here...
With Playnite you not only can keep track of your game collection, you can also install or even launch them directly from the software itself. No more dozens (or hundreds) of icons on your desktop to get lost in. The extensive filter system ensures that your collection appears exactly how you want it to. Of course, there is also a search system that allows you to easily find your games.
Best of all, Playnite is open source and therefore completely free. The software is regularly updated and there is a large community with plugins to customize Playnite to your liking. Most of those plugins also get regular updates. I have been using Playnite for over two years now, both for my PC games and for my thousands of emulator games (you can also add these and even launch them from the software, although it does require some knowledge to configure it correctly, but it is possible).
In my opinion the developer team should also think about creating other versions of this software such as Movienite, Comicnite, Booknite, Musicnite, Appnite, and perhaps some others, so that you can catalog all your collections without it costing you tons of money per year, as is the case with that one well-known Dutch company that I won't name, but everyone knows.
Are there any disadvantages to the software? Apart from the occasional database crash (which is why you should always back up your collection), and the fact that you have to learn how to use Playnite a little bit at first, I haven't found any real disadvantages in all the years I've been using this software.
