Poncho Tours is based in North West Argentina: a region rich in history and indigenous culture, and boasting some of the most spectacular landscapes on earth. The Cafayate wine region lies to the south, while to the west, a short hop across the Andes in Chile, lies the famous Atacama desert and to the north, the breathtakingly beautiful Salares of Uyuni in Bolivia. Whatever your interests we can design a bespoke holiday in Argentina to suit your tastes. Your holiday will start when we meet you at the airport and drop you off at one of our carefully selected boutique hotels, estancias, or bed and breakfasts in the charming colonial city of Salta. You’ll discover all our holidays in Argentina have one thing in common: they avoid busloads of tourists in favor of small, personalized tailor-made tours that bring you into contact with the locals and won’t cost the earth.

Nick took us on a fabulous 5 day tour…
Nick took us on a fabulous 5 day tour of salta and Jujuy. He is very attentive and well informed in addition to being fun to be with. He took us to some really great restaurants and lovely hotels with the most beautiful scenery on the way. We had frequent stops for walks sightseeing and souvenir shopping. We can thoroughly recommend poncho tours.

Tailored tour to learn about Torrontés in the Cafayate region, with a knowledgable guide, and stunning vistas on route!
I booked a solo/private daytrip from Salta to Cafayate (and return) with Poncho Tours in December 2019. Mariano was my guide for the day and provided the tour in English. Mariano’s appreciation of wine culture made for great conversation, and provided very good insight into the region we visited. My interest was mostly in Torrontés, and Poncho Tours was flexible in recommending good options given we only had one-day.
I got to visit 3 different vineyards for tastings, a mix of a bigger/more commercial one, to a smaller family run! A really good blend! Our first stop was Bodega El Esteco, with a bigger operation. The second stop was Bodega Burbujas de Altura, a smaller family run vineyards, where the owner himself spent almost 2 hours providing me insight into his production and did the tasting with me. This stop was definitively a highlight with more intimate visit, and their sparkling wine made from Torrontés grapes in the traditional method is a must try! The final stop was Bodega El Porvenir de Cafayate, where I got to try many different Torrontés: from the traditional one, to one fermented in oak barrels, to a sweeter version.
Finally, the drive to/from Cafayate through the Quebrada de las Conchas was breathtaking, with stunning colourful vistas at every turn. We were able to stop at various points on route, to take in the view and for pictures. It makes for a very enjoyable drive!
I would most definitively recommend booking with Poncho Tours for a tour tailored to your interest, with a knowledgable guide.

We had an amazing time with Poncho…
We had an amazing time with Poncho Tours travelling through Salta and Jujuy provinces and down through the Valles Calchaquies finishing in Cafayate.
Right from first contact Nick was very responsive and helpful in answering my many questions! We only had a rough plan of what we wanted to do so we followed his guidance and loved every minute of it!
Mariano our guide was brilliant! His knowledge of the areas, history, culture, wildlife and botany were second to none. He had some great recommendations for places to stay, where to eat, things to do and took us on some great hikes. I was totally blown away by the whole trip and it made it extremely enjoyable.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Poncho Tours and can’t wait to travel with them again.

We had an incredible time touring with Nick from Poncho tours for through Salta, Tilcara and Cafayate in December. From the moment I emailed him, Nick was very helpful working with our requirements and time constraints to make a tailor made trip to suit our needs. The Salta region is breathtaking and Nick seemed to know it inside out, making sure we stopped at all the right places. He went out of his way several times, including on the last day when we picked up some produce from his local delicatessen and had a great picnic with some stunning scenery. I highly reccommend visiting this beautiful region and Poncho tours!

Four days in Salta and Jujuy
We recently spent four days with Nick around Cafayate, Cachi, Salta and Purmamarca. We were lucky enough to see some hidden gems away from the main tourist traps that were really spectacular! Nick was really knowledgable about the area and knew all the best spots. He was super flexible and we were able to tailor our trip to suit our interest, the weather etc each day. He really went above and beyond to help with suggestions of hotels and activities, we couldn’t have asked for more!

Our week exploring NW Argentina and high altitude trekking
Starting from Salta our week in November with Poncho Tours was fantastic and truly memorable. Nick was an excellent and well-informed guide who had planned the trip so that we could sample some of the best places and experiences that NW Argentina can offer.
Our trip included visits to salt flats, historical sites, some quirky churches, local towns and crafts people. He arranged a couple of memorable meals in private houses and as we don't eat meat these were quite special.
The ‘painter’s palette’ of colours in the mountains of the Quebrada de Humahuaca was amazing. The high altitude acclimatisation was challenging but it's what we needed. We were then prepared for the highlight of the trip - the 2 day expedition to stay overnight in a farm up in the mountains with our local guide, Danny’s parents. Despite the challenge of ascending up to 3,500 metres (we are a retired couple 60++), experiencing the peace and tranquillity of the mountains - with condors occasionally circling overhead - will never be forgotten.

Amazing Argentina with Nick's Poncho Tours
Our six days with Nick was truly an amazing experience, from start to finish.
Each day seemed to get better and better, and by the end, it had surpassed all our expectations. It wasn't just the itinerary, which was perfectly planned to suit our pace and preferences; he took everything we wanted to see and created an itinerary that went above and beyond.
So many wonderful highlights, like a road-side picnic on the road to Cachi with a stunning scenic backdrop, and the canyon hike near Quebrada de las Conchas. Nick knew all the best places to stop, and even knew what time of day would provide the best lighting for certain pictures. He is organized, knowledgeable, and amazing attention to detail.
Looking back now, it's hard to think of him as our tour guide, because by the end of the week he really felt like a good friend. If you're going to be anywhere in Northern Argentina (or anywhere that Nick gives tours), there is no better guide.

Nick with Poncho tours is great and very easy to work with. He designed a custom 2 day tour for my husband and I from Cafayate to Cachi! We drove through Spectacular landscapes and Nick knew the best area to stop walk up a trail and end up with a beautiful 360 panoramic view for stunning picture taking! His knowledge of the local area is vast and we look forward to our next visit to Argentina and another great tour with Nick!

Wonderful trip through the Puna. Thank you Nick !
My husband and I made a beautiful 5 weeks trip to Argentina last November.
But the highlight was definitely our "Southern Altiplano tour" (Puna – North Argentina). This extraordinary trip would not have been possible without the expertise, professionalism and passion of our guide Nick.
Nick, not only a perfect guide with the best knowledge of history and culture, but also a pleasant travel companion and friend.
He took us to the most beautiful spots, breathtaking views, stopped everywhere we wanted for the ultimate best picture or just stand outside on some ridge and enjoy the mind-blowing terrain. And all of this in a very relax, pleasant atmosphere. He was excellent company, knowledgeable on all subjects, knew the ropes, spoke Spanish and was very caring. We can’t speak highly enough of the way he looked after us. Travelling with him is like having a friend showing you around his own neighbourhood - no pressure, always cordial, relaxed, informative and thoroughly enjoyable. Despite the fact that he has already made this trip several times, Nick remains as enthusiastic about it and enjoyed it with us.
When he finally dropped us off in our hotel in Salta, we were tired but happy to have met Nick and grateful to him for enriching the North West leg of our Argentinian holiday in so many ways.
If you are looking for someone who is kind, gracious, professional, multi-talented, fluent and an all-around GREAT person, Nick is the person to contact. Especially if you are looking for a tailor made adventure.
Thank you so much Nick for this amazing experience ! We were so lucky to be part of it.
Definitely a 6 stars experience !

"Salt and Seven Colours" out of Salta…
My wife and I booked the "Salt and Seven Colours Tour" and the "Classic Wine Tour" with Nick Evans in winter 2017. Both tours were absolutely fantastic. Nick is a very experienced guide, and he schedules the trips according to the individual requests of his customers. In more than twenty years of worldwide travel the tour with Nick was one of the highlights for us. If you want to see this part of Argentina there is no better way than Poncho Tours.
