First time buyers Nightmare experience

We were first time buyers purchasing an apartment from a resident who had passed on. Its not as complex as a property chain of buyers and sellers and should have been a straight forward process. The process has lasted 9 months when it shouldn't have lasted longer than 3. Bad communication throughout from the lawyers side; to us the buyers, and to the sellers side causing massive delays. No transparency in the process or indication when it would be complete. This lead to costing us thousands in delays to start our renovation work. Throughout this process we had to chase and manage the lawyers. There was even time when it looked like we would lose the property due to this delay or have to get it remortgaged at a higher rate due to this incompetency. Our conveyancer was never available to call, responded slowly to emails and left to go on holiday when everything was falling apart leaving her colleagues the burden. We would never recommend such a firm; and quite the opposite we will tell everyone who we meet online, in the streets and through other people not to use your services and the reasons why.
