Cold call from Aaron at PPL PRS to discuss license needed to play music. Aaron advised that the music on my VOIP phone system was copyright and therefore a license was required. Aaron was very arrogant when I asked if he knew if the music was copyright or royalty free. He advised that I would have to prove that the music was royalty free. This assumption that music was copyright and that license was payable demonstrates a bully attitude to law abiding businesses and individuals. I was advised that the license was over one thousand pounds which included a non compliance fee. Thankfully I managed to receive confirmation from my VOIP supplier that the music was royalty free whilst I was on the call to Aaron and advised him that license was not needed. He continued to argue that the music was still copyright and that the VOIP supplier could be wrong. I asked Aaron to send me his email contact details and I will forward the message from my VOIP supplier. The sinister tone and language used by Aaron was appalling and I feel that PPL PRS has wasted my time with this frivolous call. How dare they state untrue statements in a attempt extort money from businesses. Shame on you, I would like to invoice PPL PRS for my time spent on the call.

PPL PRS is the worst company I've ever dealt with in over 15 years of business. Have had many issues with them in the past, with overcharging during covid while my business was closed, to takimg me to court where they were in the wrong. Now my issue, I have a cafe and I use Melodial for our music, £4.99 a month, no music license needed as they own all their own music. I have replied to 2 personal emails sent to me from agents, as well as a 16 min on hold call, only for them to disconnect when I get through. All whole a barrage of emails demanding payment from a no-reply email. I've sent the Melodial certificates to them via email, but this doesn't seem to be getting through. I just have to.wait until they pass this to.the debt collectors again, and then I can let them.know that I don't require a PPL PRS license.

0 stars should be an option.
Over 90% 1-star Trustpilot reviews sums it up really.
We have been running our little hospitality venue for 14 years. Since COVID we have been paying MONTHLY, in advance of each month of the annual period - primarily because we cannot afford the lump sum that PPLPRS would like at the beginning of an annual period.
Every year PPLPRS refer our case to a debt collection agency. Pannone Corporate seems to be their preferred debt collection agency. Each time we reply to Pannone with the facts and evidence (paying monthly etc), they immediately close the case.
We have paid every annual period IN FULL and in advance, but PPLPRS continue to hound us with threats of surcharges, a legal team, an enforcement team, legal remedies, legal proceedings, license termination, court action, solicitors, and more debt collectors.
We have never signed and do not agree to their "TheMusicLicence Terms and Conditions".

We recently renewed our music licence and found the process to be straightforward, efficient, and well managed from start to finish. Communication was clear throughout, and any queries were dealt with promptly and professionally.
A special thanks to Niall O'Connor for his excellent support and responsiveness during the renewal process. His assistance made everything simple and hassle-free.
Overall, a very positive experience with a smooth renewal process and great customer service. We look forward to continuing our relationship in the future.

Exceptional customer service. Josh was the one one answered and he was brilliant in terms of meeting my needs as a customer.

Shocking company. We don't play music. We've explained this many, many, many times. We've emailed many, many, many times. We've been assured it's been dealt with many, many, many times. Apparently our 'debt' has now been passed to a debt management company. Should be ashamed of themselves. This level of ineptitude is frankly unbelievable.

Great customer service, always really lovely people looking after a struggling industry, and supporting both sides

The service we received was very good when applying for a discounted RSL licence at short notice (however I did have to chase the application).
As a Hospital Radio Station I do think that music licences relating to ALL Hospital locations and situations should be exempt from licences

I am currently being subjected to what I can only describe as harassment from Vinecia, who is like a dog with a bone. Relentless, doesn’t listen, accept the situation, or evidently have anything better to do than take my staff away from fee paying clients causing harm to my business. I can only imagine what sort of mental health issues these people can cause. I’m sure they are pleasant enough when getting what they want, but if you don’t want a licence I believe they will harass you until the easy option is to give them an overinflated pile of money for something you don’t want or need, purely to get them off your back. Dreadful, and actually needs some type of government enquiry. Never dealt with anything like it and it’s time they realised times are changing and businesses will make choices based on cost and need.

This 5 star review is solely for one person - Antoinette Williams, who after 2 calls where I met with unhelpful agents (the last one was particularly awful and unprofessional) and being put on hold for 10 minutes, was extremely pleasant and unbelievably helpful. She sorted my problem out very quickly and efficiently and was extremely reassuring. If all the staff were like her there would be 5 stars across the board.

There have never been any issues with our multiple licences across the country. Kieran always keeps us right, is informative and provides wonderful customer service. Its a hard account to manage due to the volume of locations, mixture of media and size but Kieran always helps out on getting the correct licence for our sites. Thank you so much!

I have just had an enforcement officer turn up at my personal address as for a debt for limited company. For some reason ppl and prs have had my personal details instead of the company, not only that I had spoken this companies Solicitors earlier this year and given them the updated details, who also. explained that was all the information they would need. I hadn't heard back so I assumed it was all sorted, it clearly wasn't. I will now be raising this further and would like a call from a manager as I find this behaviour threatening and abusive especially given the current climate. It has severly affected my mental health, I can't believe the music industry is represented by such a horrendous company. What makes this worse my company has not even been trading for several months.

I don't actually understand why im paying £170 a year by direct debit to this "Company", they provide no service to me as a company! I am only paying due to ongoing threats that its a legal requirement that i pay them for services they provide. Business rates, energy costs, tv licences, - profit margins are at approx 15% (in a good year), yet im paying some random company money for something i don't even understand!. Am i being scammed yet again??

I am extremely disappointed by my experience. My company has been subjected to County Court proceedings for an alleged debt relating to a business we have never owned, operated or traded as. Basic checks should have been carried out before such serious legal action was taken. As a result, my family and I have endured enormous stress, anxiety, sleepless nights and many hours dealing with a claim that should never have been brought against us. I sincerely hope PPL PRS reviews its procedures to ensure no other innocent business owner has to go through the same ordeal.

After reading heavy handed communication from this outfit and reading the 1 star (zero not an option) reviews I can only draw parallels to a mafia style set up who threaten to send in debt collectors to lean on poor business owners already squeezed to breaking point. PPL are an operation which do not accept liability and therefore have no legitimate claims.

Only 1 star as no option for zero. Harassing calls from this number threatening all sorts of punitive action and continued calls as he couldn't speak to a decision maker. Refused to take the word of an admin person answering the phone that we don't play music. What a horrible bunch these are.

We have been harassed by the sales team at PPL PRS for several months, stating that we need a licence or they will escalate. Despite responding each time THAT WE ALREADY HAVE THE LICENCE, the pestering emails keep coming.
Despite contacting their customer support team, who reassured me that the emails would stop, they keep on coming. I am now raising a formal complaint.
This is an appalling way to treat your existing clients who are fully compliant with the licensing requirements. You need to sort out your sales team, as this reflects incredibly poorly on your business.
