Disappointing outcome - would not use again
We're a Melbourne digital agency (10+ years established) and engaged LevelUP (HR & Talent Advisory) to fill a Senior BDM role.
The candidate they placed accepted our offer in December, we paid 50% of the fee (nearly $13k), then he withdrew 5 days before starting in January. Never worked a single day - no induction, no payroll, nothing.
We requested a refund since the placement was never completed. LevelUP refused and instead offered a credit note.
Here's the issue: we paid nearly $13k for a candidate who never actually started working for us. Zero value delivered. Other recruiters I've spoken to confirmed this would normally warrant a refund - it's standard practice in the industry. It turns out it is also highly unusual for fees to be paid on contract signature rather than on commencement.
The initial service was fine and candidates presented were good quality. But refusing to refund fees when the candidate withdrew before even starting? That's not how partnerships should work.
Refund has not been granted, not even a partial refund has been offered. We are now commencing legal action to recover these funds plus associated legal costs. I will update this review when this matter is resolved.
