Written by the company

PubKeep is a desktop app for Windows and Mac that opens, edits, prints and exports Microsoft Publisher (.pub) files. Microsoft removed Publisher from Microsoft 365 in October 2026 and is ending support for the perpetual versions, which left users with years of bulletins, newsletters, flyers, certificates and labels they could no longer open. PubKeep keeps that work usable. Open a .pub file and it looks the way it did in Publisher: same pages, same fonts, same layout, nothing re-flowed. Edit the text and pictures, print it, or save an exact PDF. Your files stay on your computer. There is no subscription. A Founder license is a one-time purchase and includes a year of updates, with a free 7-day trial and a 30-day refund for any reason. Volume licenses are available for offices with several computers. Most of our customers are churches, schools, nonprofits, small businesses and families who built their weekly bulletins, newsletters and forms in Publisher and don't want to start over in a new program. PubKeep also offers PubKeep Converter, a web service that turns batches of .pub files into PDFs. PubKeep is made by Saint Systems, LLC, a software company in Flower Mound, Texas. Questions go to hello@pubkeep.com and are answered by a real person.

I was so relieved that PubKeep is here!

I was so relieved that PubKeep was able to open all of my Publisher files. I create newsletters, flyers, posters, brochures, and more. Let me say I am not a young person and I tried Canva and Libre and wondered how was I going to recreate my work and get through the learning curve. I have used PubKeep for a few things already, and admittedly I will have to figure some things out, but the fact that it opens my exisiting files so I can work on them really makes me happy.

I am thrilled to have found PubKeep! Opens my Publisher files perfectly, and was usable with a very short learning curve. As a newsletter publisher, the thought of losing all my Publisher templates was cause for near panic. Finding and using this program is a huge relief!

I just started using PubKeep so have not had a lot of experience with it. That said, so far I am pleased. Yes, it's not Publisher, but it has many of the same features. I haven't tried all the settings yet but so far, so good. It takes a bit to get used to it, and so far, I haven't found a few of the Publisher features that I was used to, but they could be there and I haven't found them yet. My biggest concern so far is that the screen seems too big to really work well on it. I think the size is set at 22% but when I try to bring it up a little bigger, it goes way too big. Yes, I did buy this, and I think I will like it once I get used to it. I had a fit when Publisher was going away and PubKeep is the closest I've found.

PubKeep is the most seamless "drop-in"…

PubKeep is the most seamless "drop-in" replacement available to preserve your exact layouts. Other graphic design tools will force you to manually rebuild every single document from scratch because they cannot import Publisher files accurately. I’ve tested all the others as well and even the ones that can open .pub files require a lot of rework. I created a 50 fund raising journal for my volunteer fire district last year using Publisher and Pubkeep opened it perfectly allowing me to update it with ease.
Additionally, we tested it against our church bulletin and even with scratch space loaded with years of images and text boxes it opens just like it did with Publisher. The lady who does our bulletin also keeps old pages in the same file and moves them into position as many church events cycle throughout the year. She is not skilled at desktop publishing and has a habit of using spaces instead of tabs. Needless to say our bulletin file is a Frankenstein that Pubkeep tamed effortlessly.

Love it

I am excited that this app allows me to keep all of my publisher files. I literally have 100s and was dreading having to convert them all. It’s only been a short time, but I have not found any glitches or downside to using this program.

We purchased PubKeep so that we would not lose 100s of hours of work

We purchased PubKeep so that we could continue having access to our MS Publisher files. We are not disappointed. We have been able to salvage all the files that would have been lost. That is hundreds of hours of work that could not be duplicated. We are happy to endorse PubKeep. They have even kept the ability to create Word Art. And it works just like Publisher did, not the wimpy version that MS Word is packaged with.

Losing Publisher after 40 years with hundreds of documents, I am delighted to find PubKeep. It opens Publisher files exactly how they were created allowing you to make changes. Creating new docs is as user friendly as Publisher. Creators are working out a few conflicts with some anti-virus software when installing. Excellent and fast customer support. Highly Recommend!

PubKeep

PubKeep: A Welcome Solution for Microsoft Publisher Users

When we learned that Microsoft Publisher was being discontinued, our office faced a real challenge. We had years of documents, projects, and materials created in Publisher, and we were scrambling to find a practical solution that wouldn't require starting over.

We initially explored Adobe InDesign, but its steep learning curve made it difficult for many of our office staff to transition. We needed something familiar, reliable, and easy to use.

When we discovered PubKeep, we were cautiously optimistic. It almost sounded too good to be true. However, with so much work invested in Publisher over the years, we decided it was worth trying.

We have been pleasantly surprised. PubKeep looks and feels remarkably similar to Microsoft Publisher, making the transition much less intimidating. The familiar interface and functionality have given us confidence that our staff can adapt without extensive training.

Our experience hasn't been without a few challenges. We've encountered some font issues during the conversion process, which can be frustrating when trying to preserve the original appearance of our documents. However, we recognize that PubKeep is a relatively new application, and we're hopeful these issues will be addressed as the software continues to develop.

Overall, we're grateful that PubKeep exists. It has provided a much-needed solution for an office that depends heavily on years of Publisher files. While there is room for improvement, PubKeep has made what initially seemed like an overwhelming transition feel manageable.

For organizations and offices facing the same challenges with Microsoft Publisher, PubKeep is certainly worth considering.

More than just rescuing old files.

Highly Recommended: Over the years I've accumulated over 8,500 files built with MS Publisher. I'm also aware of many churches & non-profits who have used Publisher for regular communication. I wanted to check out this software for the sake of many communities left high and dry by the elimination of Publisher. The early version of PubKeep downloaded on 9/28/26 was adequate but left a few functions wanting. However, each update (at least daily) corrected whatever was missing, so that as far as my use is concerned, it is now a fully functional alternative to Publisher -- and the updates keep on coming.

Pubkeep = peace of mind for former Publisher users

Pubkeep is a solid fix for those of us who want access to our library of Publisher files with the certainty of knowing they’ll pull up right. And the developer seems really interested in making sure it continues to do that. The price seems very reasonable for peace of mind.

Opens complicated publications

I have a number of documents that are large and somewhat complicated with graphics and all sorts of formatting. Pub keep has opened them very well in the small amounts of adjustments I need to make are minimal compared to the large value of what they've opened correctly formatted.

Thank you Adam...

I have been using MS Publisher for years and was wondering how I was going to replace it. MS will say that MS Word and MS PowerPoint will do the same things. I have tried and you can indeed do some (haven't tried them all) of the same things. But it is not as easy as with Publisher and now with PubKeep). When I read about PubKeep I breathed a sigh of relief. Somewhat hesitantly I tried it and I was very pleasantly surprised. I opened a completed document (done in Publisher) and was able to edit it as though I were still in Publisher. Most of the commands, menus, etc. are the same. Some are in a different place, but they are easy to find. There are still improvements to be made, and the company is working on that diligently. (I think 5 updates today already.) Thank you, Adam, for this brilliant piece of work.

Sent From Above

For decades, MS Publisher was my goto for booklets, posters, and more. I believe MS encouraged folks to use Word when they decided to stop supporting Publisher. I tried and then started looking for something - I didn't know how something was defined.

By chance, PubKeep appeared on my social media. I kept scrolling past it. Don't know why I read one of the ads more closely. I saw the free trial; the 7 days bothered me because too many times I forget about the freebie period.

Everything was exactly as advertised. The import was perfect. It also told me what fonts were missing from my computer. I think the best news: if I edit the document, the original is save as is, and I have to save it again with the PubKeep extension. Well, I was so impressed I purchased a license for both computers - one Mac & one Windows.

Thank you PubKeep.

I am loving PubKeep

I am loving PubKeep. I have searched for another program that would do what I used Publisher for and none of the other programs did what I needed or they have a huge learning curve. PubKeep doesn't have all the little conveniences that Publisher had, but they are still improving it daily based on user requests and release updates frequently, sometimes multiple times a day. The BEST part is that I don't need to re-create all my files in another program to edit them for re-use. PubKeep opens all my Publisher docs! I would recommend Pubkeep to everyone who has found Publisher difficult to replace.

2 thumbs up from teacher

I am a early childhood teacher who has created a lot of publisher posters, booklets. mail merges, flash cards, lables... I have found that while there is a bit of relearning, my publisher files open easily and I have been able to use & edit them effectively. I am happy that I purchased it and gladly reccommend it!

It is almost identical to Microsoft…

It is almost identical to Microsoft Publisher and with the updates you've already made so far, it's getting even closer. A couple things I would love to see is 1- when you have a text box or image selected, if you could 'nudge' it with the arrow keys instead of it moving it too far (if that makes sense.) 2- when resizing an object/image using the picture layout menu, it lets you change the dimension, but it would be great if you could lock the ratio so you only had to put in 1 side and it would resize it without distorting it. So far those are the only 2 things still bothering me, the other quirks i had noticed were already fixed in updates.

Thank you, Natalie! It’s great to hear the updates have fixed the other quirks you noticed.

Good news: both are in PubKeep now (make sure you’re on the latest version).

To nudge, click the text box or picture once so it’s selected (press Esc first if you’re typing inside it), then use the arrow keys. Each press moves it a tiny step, about 1/72 of an inch. Hold Shift with an arrow for a bigger step.
To resize without distorting, select the object and look in the Properties pane on the right. Under Width and Height is a “Lock aspect ratio” checkbox. Pictures have it on already, so you can type one side and the other follows. For text boxes and shapes, check the box first. You can also hold Shift while you drag a corner.

If either one doesn’t behave that way, use Help > Report an issue in the app and we’ll take a look.

Pubkeep is legit!

I'd used Publisher forever and was horrified it was being retired. Not interested in having to learn a whole new software, Pubkeep is a lifesaver. It is the real thing. It opens all my old publisher files and lets me work in them. It functions much like publisher so I didn't have to learn a new system. The admins/founder are quick to respond. It's worth every penny and then some.
