Evaluating 263 reviews, most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the pricing, noting frequent and substantial rate increases, sometimes by as much as 50% or more, even after being promised locked-in rates. This often led to feelings of being overcharged compared to competitors. However, some people mentioned positive experiences with the staff, highlighting individuals who were described as friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. These employees often went above and beyond to assist customers, provide excellent customer service, and maintain clean and secure facilities. Unsafe storage

When I moved my stuff in, a guy told me to turn around as his stuff had been stolen. I ignored the warning. A week later my locker was robbed. Shocker. Luckily the single camera in the area had full view of the locker door but Public Storage management isn't cooperating with the investigation or communicating. I steered several people away from storing their possessions here and will continue to do so.

Unreasonable charges…

The service at Public Storage is getting worse. They charge a non-refundable administration fee even if you cancel before moving in, which makes no sense. I wouldn’t recommend this company. Also, be careful when booking online—they can charge you extra fees without clearly informing you. In addition, this company does not prorate rent after you move out. They charge for the entire month on the first day, and even if you move out on the second day, you still have to pay the full month’s rate.

On Wednesday

Public Storage - On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, I ended up trapped inside Public Storage in while I was obtaining some belongings from my storage unit. The gate sign upon exit states to text a number to open the gate after hours. This did not work at all!! The sign also says to download the Public Storage app. This assumes one has their account log in information (sign in and password) on their person. It, also, assumes one has a smart phone with them, the battery is charged, and they are adept at using bluetooth, downloading apps, and using apps, etc.

Holding customers hostage in order to get them to pay an extra $30 to exit Public Storage premises is not a good business plan!!!! It is extortion in my opinion and places customers at risk! It was cold, I had no access to the bathroom or health medication. None of the 800 numbers I found worked as they provided no remedy to exit the premises nor a live person to assist. The 800# menu selection options send customers on an endless loop with no way of obtaining assistance after 9pm. Public Storage designed the phone menu to purposely reduce contact with customers needing assistance, but they take our money every month without providing any real service.

I was trapped inside Public Storage for over TWO HOURS on Wednesday night before Thanksgiving in the cold. I had people waiting on me and other things that needed to get done before the holiday. Spending over two hours trapped inside Public Storage was not part of the holiday plan. This is a horrific way to treat customers and force them to pay $30 extra a month just to exit storage after 9pm. I do not need 24/7 access. I just lost track of time while looking for something I needed for the holiday. This should not happen to anyone. What if I needed my asthma medication or access to diabetes medicine during this time I was trapped??? If there was a medical emergency, no ambulance would be able to get in to reach me or get out!

Additionally, the bluetooth on my phone connected to the stand alone keypad upon exit but continued to indicate bluetooth was locked even though I made payment of the $30 and the 24/7 access showed a green light. I, finally, had to call the police for assistance. They also walked over to see the front door 800# which I could not see or access from the exit gate area. I tried that number as well to no avail. The app, also, does not tell you whether to enter your gate code on the stand alone keypad or enter your gate code on your phone or whether or not to press * first on the phone. It only states to press the # key when done. Nothing worked to open the gate.

Finally, for no apparent reason the gate opened when for umpteenth time I entered my code in the stand alone key pad. Both the police and I have no answers for the why it suddenly decided to work. The only thing different I did was reboot my phone but I do not think that had anything to do with it. I think there was a timed delay between the extortion payment of $30 to exit and Public Storage communicating access to the keypad even though the app on my phone indicated I had 24/7 access. There needs to be clarification in the instructions in using the app.

Public storage needs a workable, manual back up system for people to exit the premises after hours. These situations are going to continue to happen. Not everyone has a smart phone. There are many elderly customers that may not know how to do any of this. This was a serious situation and could have resulted in a medical emergency with no access or exit!!! The police told me that this has happened at this premises before. Public storage already overcharges people and routinely does exorbitant rate hikes not in line with market value or competitor's rates. It is extortion in my opinion to hold people hostage inside the premises in order to extract an extra $30 more dollars a month placing people at risk. Public Storage this is a horrific and bad way to treat customers. You are placing your customers in jeopardy by failing to provide a manual back up plan to exit the premises after 9pm. This situation needs to be addressed and resolved promptly by Public Storage. This was a horrendous experience and put my health in jeopardy.

Service Excellence at Its BEST — Thank You, Cardia!

My recent experience at Public Storage (North Jog Road, West Palm Beach) was absolutely exceptional thanks to Cardia, who supported both my move-in and move-out process.

Her level of commitment to her customers is second to none. Cardia guided me through the onboarding process with extraordinary patience and clarity, and she closed out my account with the same high-level professionalism and care. She goes above and beyond to make customers feel supported and understood, and that’s a rare and invaluable trait.

Public Storage should feel incredibly proud to have someone like Cardia on their team. I’m deeply grateful for her help and highly recommend this location because of her.

The elevators were locked in fire mode

The elevators were locked in fire mode. The unit we use is on the second floor. We rent a truck to move things to and from the storage unit. When we tried to get ahold of someone during normal business hours we were hung up on by robots during every call. Or left messages that were never returned. This company is terrible, don't use them if you have any other options.

Wonderful place, wonderful staff

Title: Exceptional experience at Public Storage – Wortham St, Durham
Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5)
I’ve been renting a 10×10, climate-controlled, first-floor unit at Public Storage on Wortham St in Durham, NC—and I’m extremely satisfied. The staff go above and beyond, answering all my questions and making the move-in seamless. The facility uses secure, coded-door access (instead of gates), which gives both convenience and peace of mind. The price for this unit is unbeatable given the amenities. There’s also a 24/7 access upgrade available (just $20/month more) which adds great flexibility.
If you’re looking for a reliable, quality storage solution in Durham, this location is a smart choice.

Very deceptive practices

Very deceptive practices. They make you think you’re paying monthly but in fact it’s every 28 days so that’s 13 payments per year!!! Then they raise rent every 3 months. My rent has gone up $75 in just 12 months. These guys are crooks and what’s funny is that they are proud of it!!!

Deceptive pricing practices

The physical facilities are fine, no complaints. The local staff are actually quite friendly and as helpful as they can be. The app is glitchy, which is annoying but not a deal-breaker.

The biggest issue I have is with this company's corporate pricing practices. They sold me a 10x10 unit for $77/month starting in July 2025. In October 2025 they emailed me saying my rate would go up to $104/month!!! They claim that this increase is due to "market conditions". I checked their website and they're now offering the same 10x10 to new customers for $55/month. So it seems the "market" went down, not up, in the very brief time since I joined. I'm not expecting them to lower my rent, but I'm sure as HECK not expecting them to try and jack it up 38% after just a few months, with zero legitimate rationale.

This is just a case of them hoping that I'll be too lazy to move. Well joke is on them, because I can literally pay movers to move everything to a nearby storage unit and still save more than what they're trying to charge me.

If you only need storage for a couple months, this is a great option. If you're expecting to need the unit for years, this is going to be a constant battle/negotiation.

Good 1st and 3rd experiences: glad I came Back.

Good 1st and 3rd experiences. Glad I came back. Good price and convenient location in Midvale Utah brought me back to store my bike over the winter after problems resolving a billing issue last year. Two different employees on the Video Kiosk on my move-in day were helpful, warm and patient. Jamie(sp?) answered my call the 2nd day and stayed at the property with her supervisor, Brayden, till I could get there: knowledgeable, welcoming and helped me complete my move-in with a friendly experience. Aloha

Excellent Service-Chris

I recently spoke with Chris, the manager (Burlington) who was kind, professional, and informative. He clearly explained the reason for my rate increase and assured me it was in line with current rental trends. I appreciate the property’s cleanliness and overall sense of safety. I mentioned some glass and nails on-site, and Chris promptly assured me it would be addressed. Excellent customer service and attention to detail.

Overall, great accommodations as a long-term tenant

Overall, the facility was excellent. We appreciate the clean, climate-controlled building, security, and the friendly, helpful staff who were available when we needed assistance. Our only concern is the constant rent increases as long-term tenants, which have become a cost factor prompting us to move out quickly, as the price per unit reached nearly $700.00 for a 10 x 30 unit. Renting four units for up to four years at approximately $1,500.00 per month became unreasonable as storage renters. The rising monthly expense forced us to move on. Thank you, Sonja and Tereasa, for your exceptional customer service at Public Storage on 18 1/2 Mile Rd., Sterling Heights, MI. I do recommend the facility for its overall amenities, building security, and high-quality staff. Thank you again, W.G.

My name is Irwin Gelbart Navigating Public Storage Maze

My name is Irwin Gelbart and I have rented a storage locker at the Rockville Centre location for more than 25 years. In August, it was necessary to move to a different locker but at the same location. I had contacted Public Storage, Rockville Centre, and I obtained information on what was necessary to make the move. I received a number of different versions and instructions. Regretfully none made sense. Also, in the interim I had a medical issue which had to be addressed. By late September I was able to once again address the move. Unfortunately, once again I was receiving conflicting information regarding the cost of the locker and unacceptable move times. Frustrating, was the norm. Once again, I decided to give this desired move a last chance before searching for an alternative storage company. Lo and behold, I made one more call to Public Storage and Olivia picked up on the call. With Olivia's help and with no further ado, within 10 minutes the entire transaction was concluded. I was able to transfer from the existing locker to the new locker within an hour. I was just amazed at her knowledge of the system, and the ease how she had navigated through the contracts, signatures, and directions. Kudos to Olivia, and thank you once again for giving me the comfort and confidence that I made the correct choice.

VERY HAPPY!

I was in a lot of distress when I checked in and was not happy I had to get a unit. I was greeted by Kelly (9201 E Tanque Verde location) and she was very sympathetic and supportive. It was refreshing to be greeted by someone so happy and helpful. The rates are copetitive and they always have good deals online. I recommend fully.
