R1 Auto- Car window Tinting
I used R1 Auto for car window tinting at my home. While communication was respectful, my concerns ultimately led to a consumer protection complaint and a full refund.
I want to share my experience respectfully so that others can make an informed decision, as there are currently no reviews for this company online.
I booked what I believed to be their Perth technician. According to their records, the job was meant to be completed by him. However, after the tinting was done, I noticed major issues: the rubber window seals were damaged, the tint edges were uneven and poorly cut, there were bubbles, and some sections of glass weren’t tinted at all. In some places, the tint was even torn. On top of this, I had specifically asked for the darkest legal tint, but the tint applied was darker than legally allowed. Overall, the workmanship and service were very poor.
R1 Auto arranged a follow-up appointment. I expected the same technician, but a different person arrived. When I asked about this, he explained that the job had originally been “outsourced” due to personal circumstances. I was never told the work would be subcontracted. I showed him a diagram of my concerns, and he assured me he would fix everything. Unfortunately, after he left, many of the same problems remained: uneven edges, bubbles, torn tint—and the illegal level of tint was never corrected.
During this visit, he also mentioned that the original worker had stolen the hire vehicle and been reported to police. The main office (based interstate) later confirmed they were unaware the job had been subcontracted, which raises concerns about customer safety, proper HR and vetting processes.
My main concerns with this company are:
1. An unvetted, unskilled person was sent to my home without my knowledge, nor the knowledge of management. I had a contract R1 auto and was not informed that the job had been subcontracted.
2. My brand-new car was damaged.
3. Despite raising concerns with both the office and technician, the issues were never properly resolved.
4. The tint applied was darker than the legal limit, even though I requested the darkest legal option, and this was not corrected.
5. Management never acknowledged these concerns and initially only offered a 50% refund for poor workmanship.
My advice: Do better research than I did. Choose a local workshop and have your car tinted there. You’ll likely pay a similar price without the stress and issues I experienced.
