HORRIBLE buying experience

HORRIBLE buying experience and would not recommend. Tried calling Oakville location about a size 48 tri bike on sale for $4k and showing in stock (which is a small size/not popular), but couldn’t reach them and then spoke to Chris at Bloor location on the phone right after around 10am. I asked Chris to put on hold as he said it’s likely my size based on my height, which he said he would and would call back today or Monday. Also dealt with James (owner/at Oakville location) on chat around 11am (from a previous message I sent online) and I again showed interest/offered to put down deposit but just wanted to confirm size first. He asked for my measurements via email around 12:30pm which I sent back promptly/offered deposit again to hold it - it was still showing available online at this time. Around 1pm, I didn’t hear back and noticed it was no longer in stock online so called/spoke to James. He checked inventory and said it just sold today. I was very disappointed as I’ve been dealing/offering deposits for hours on this bike to lock it in. He called me back a few mins later and said it sold “a short while before today” and they just updated inventory, which I totally question if this is even the truth. He then offered to build me a $7k bike in my size as an option with an apology. I feel misled and given I was dealing on this bike for literally hours/offering a deposit to avoid this from happening. Extremely disappointed and not only a waste of time but they didn’t follow-through on holding the bike or facilitating deposit as I requested several times and got a runaround.

Arbitrary Auction Reserve, Misrepresented # of Bidders

Racer Sportif had an online auction. I was the only bidder on the wheels at $1,500. After the bid I was informed that had not met a reserve - an apparently arbitrary amount of $1,710 was presented as the reserve. I offered to split the difference with the reserve and was informed there was another bidder. Their auction shows there was only one bidder (myself) when the auction had expired. Hence this explanation is suspect. Furthermore, there were two sets in stock at the time of the auction thus the second set would still be available. Business practices appear unethical.

Spend your money elsewhere

This shop is overpriced and they are arrogant. They tried to sell me a set of high end wheels that had scratches for full retail price. They weren't willing to take the scratches into consideration. They also can't be bothered to respond to emails. There are other good shops in Toronto that deserve your business rather than these jokers.

Don't purchase from them outside of Canada

If you're purchasing a bike outside of Canada I suggest you not purchase the bike from them. I was overcharged for shipping and received a scratched bike, when the bike I was supposedly purchasing was new. I contacted them through email about the shipping charge because I had not received the bike yet and they didn't respond. Then I received the bike after paying a hefty customs charge only to see that the paint was scratched on both front and rear forks and on the quick tire release. Although the box and bike had minimal wrapping the box wasn't damaged. I reviewed them on their website and they deleted it - of course. Just seems to me they're not worried about how they treat customers outside of Canada.

Great to Deal With

I arranged to buy a BMC frame through Racer Sportif. They were very friendly, helpful, and responded quickly to emails and phone calls.
