About Railboard

Written by the company

With the Railboard iPhone or iPad app, you can save lots of money by finding super-cheap split train tickets. Plus, you have easy access to live train times powered by National Rail Enquiries.

With Split Tickets, our clever algorithms find combinations of tickets that together offer the same journey but at a lower price than a regular ticket.

This is done by splitting regular train tickets at calling points along the journey. So instead of one ticket from A to C, you have two tickets from A to B and B to C. However, you stay on the same train as normal. There is no requirement to alight and re-board. And we do all the hard work to find them for you!

But that’s not all; Railboard has tons of other features:
  • No booking fees.
  • Instant etickets, which you can add to Apple Wallet.
  • Buy with Apple Pay.
  • Supports Dark Mode.
  • Set your railcard to get railcard discounts.
  • Easily request refunds using an online form inside the app.
  • Receipts available inside the app.
  • An easy button to add journeys to your calendar.
  • You can optionally toggle off seeing ticket prices.
  • You can choose to see only direct trains.
  • National Rail departure and arrival boards.
  • Official National Rail platform numbers.
  • Clear disruption, delay, and cancellation notices.
  • Pin trains and journeys for easy access later on.
  • You can save route searches for quick access.
  • Optional settings, so you can customise Railboard to how you like it.

A great one-stop shop for all my rail travel

I find Railboard a great one-stop shop for planning rail trips, for buying tickets and for getting real-time train information. I trust that the ticket prices are the lowest available, and I have often used the split ticket approach to gain further savings.

'Boundary Zone 6' is not recognised by the Railboard app. Travelling from Kew Gardens to Epsom using a Freedom Pass, I need to purchase a day return from Zone 6 to Epsom. I chose Ewell East instead, which works but forces me to return the same route. The other route is via Ewell West, also at the boundary of Zone 6.

Hi Keith, thank you for the feature request. I've added another vote for being able to search for journeys starting or ending at London Zones, and for an advanced search option to select what travelcards you have (so they can be taken into account when looking for tickets). ~Jon

Excellent Rail App

An excellent option for planning rail journeys, purchasing tickets and monitoring progress. Integrates flawlessly with Apple Wallet for e-tickets.

Much easier to use than more widely promoted alternatives with none of the upsell attempts and fees.

Ive used the app for many years and am continually impressed. Excellent responsiveness from the developer in the event of difficulty or with feature suggestions.

Helpful service with no hidden charges

Helpful service with no hidden charges, unlike Trainline. Automatically optimises split tickets to provide the cheapest price and easy to use to check train schedules too.

Really good.

Easy to use, integrates with Apple Wallet (which many services don't do properly) and the supporting information such as time, platforms, delays etc. is accurate, timely and useful.

Tickets printed fine but then did not work on any machine?
So had to pay again on tube entry exit and get staff to let me in and out on main train ?

Hi Stuart,

Sorry to hear your paper tickets weren’t working correctly!

If Transport for London’s tube barriers weren’t accepting the paper tickets, the station staff should have let you through after visually checking your ticket.

So I’d recommend getting in touch with our Customer Support team. I can’t guarantee anything, but if you have a record of how you paid for the tube, it may be possible to get a refund from TfL (given that you already paid for tube travel with your train tickets).

But again, sorry for the inconvenience from the tube travel not working seamlessly, and having to get staff to let you through the train barriers. I don’t know exactly what went wrong, whether it was with the paper tickets themselves or the barriers. Either way, very sorry for the extra hassle.
