While we don't verify specific claims because reviewers' opinions are their own, we may label reviews as "Verified" when we can confirm a business interaction took place. Read more
To protect platform integrity, every review on our platform—verified or not—is screened by our 24/7 automated software. This technology is designed to identify and remove content that breaches our guidelines, including reviews that are not based on a genuine experience. Awful company policies. They tote about the quality of their API calls but when tested it had a spotty success rate versus just simply using Amazon's add product page with the same UPC. I had only mad... See more

My trial got blocked even though I had not used a single credit. To test the platform properly, I paid for the account. We only used 15 credits out of 500 because the results were not meeting my requirements and it was consuming more credits on each request. I decide to not proceeed.
When I requested cancellation and a refund, they refused, saying that since some credits had already been used, they could not process the refund.

I am evaluating the Rainforest API.
I am evaluating the Rainforest API.
I sent this request:
api[dot]rainforestapi[dot]com/request?api_key=***&type=reviews&amazon_domain=amazon.de&asin=B01M4MCUAF&page=1
And got:
Error: 503 Service Unavailable
I cannot see what reviews look like via the API Playground also
The documentation says I can pass "reviews" in the type parameter. But I can't
The Support agent (Wynn AI) on the website was completely unhelpful
They quickly resolved a technical issue
I ran into a minor problem with implementing an API for my website. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly customer service responded to me, identified the problem, and provided a solution.
Rainforest API won't commit to fix bugs and won't refund your money
Search requests don't work as advertised
Search requests only return the first page. If you send a search query to pull from page=1 to page N, it will only return the first page. When confronted with the issue they did not commit to fixing the issue.
They did offer a workaround to send individual queries one page at a time. But that does not work for us without major development effort on our end to change the way we populate and maintain collections.
Here is how they explained their bug system works:
"First, I wanted to give you a quick overview of our JIRA ticketing prioritization. Our ticketing system is weighted to allocate resources to the most impactful issues, measured by factors such as the quantity of customers reporting. At this time, this issue does not meet requirements to reallocate resources from other projects, and sadly we cannot override this or bump the priority based on our findings here, although we have added them to the JIRA ticket for our team."
Since they couldn't commit to fix the bug, I asked for my for my money back. They refused. Instead, they offered "to roll over your unused/remaining credits from this cycle to the next cycle if we're unable to fix the issue by then."
I cannot recommend Rainforest API until they change their practices

Simple API with Good Documentation
Very simple API with clear documentation. Was a breeze to get up and running using the function we chose to use.

Evil Company If You Want to Cancel/Pause Subscription
If you want to cancel/pause your subscription for next month, they cancel your account immediately.
This is a very dark, nasty pattern from the programmers. Unforgivable if you want to do business.

Don't be deceived
Don't be deceived, this is just screen scraping Amazon websites. There's very little value added beyond (I assume) using a network of proxies to get around Amazon's protection mechanisms.
The expensive API doesn't provide valuable insights, data or anything actionable unless it already exists in Amazon.
There are so many opportunities to add value, but Rainforest misses the mark on them all. Find a product by GTIN?.. nope - you have to do that manually. Get categories for a product?.. nope - nothing valuable coming back from Amazon.
Update to response from Rainforest:
I did try and raise my concerns, your team was uninterested in engaging with me and dismissive.
I'm also curious as to why you would publish the email address we use for your service.
You've clearly no regard for customers, privacy or data.

A complete scam
A complete scam. All they do is screen scrape the Amazon products page. They do not have any data not easily publically assessable. Their support is incompetent, the only place they have resources is in billing and collections. Once they know about you, they spend all their efforts trying to steal your money each month instead of fixing their broke, inconsistent service.

Customer support immitating support
Customer support tried to convince me that having 30-50 seconds of response time for single listing API request is normal and I shouldn't expect API to work for any valid Amazon product url.
Data is wildly inconsistent
Data is wildly inconsistent. Many times the Product API sends back responses that the ASIN has its buybox removed, or no description, or price...and all those things are there on the actual page. Rainforest's scraping is not very good if you're relying on it for accuracy.

Very weak for pulling reviews
One of the key things we needed was access to the reviews. Rainforest API only pulls the first page of reviews which is usually around 10. For a product that has hundreds or thousands or reviews, pulling just the first 10 is absolutely useless.

Bad customer service
I have been using the service for years and was delighted. For months now it has started to have different bugs that make the application not return the correct data, which is essential for this type of service. We have had tickets open for 4-6 months and we are still waiting for a response. The last, a couple of tickets opened 2 weeks ago indicating a SERIOUS error and still no response. A couple of years ago, this error already happened and after reporting it they solved it in hours, now ... we are still waiting for a response.
EDIT: Everything remains the same, a ticket opened 1 month ago that makes it impossible to use the API for certain countries and their response is that since it is not something important they do not know when it will be resolved. In other words, not being able to use the service you pay for is not important ...
EDIT: A week later and they still haven't given me a solution and they don't even know when they will be able to get to it.
EDIT: More than a month since the last incident, with no resolution date and we are still paying for it. The customer service is a disaster.
