Aftercare

My review isn’t about my consultant who is absolutely amazing but unfortunately he is let down by his team. My aftercare has been appalling and rude, even to the point the Ramsey healthcare point of call Gail Salway doesn’t bother answering your emails. There has been issues also with communication between my Gp surgery and my aftercare team which I’m told is my fault as I have gone private, in fact I would go as far to say I am being penalised for paying for my treatment and being made to feel I have taken an NHS patient place I could really write a lot more but I am hoping someone from Ramsey Health Care will contact me to help resolve these issues, unfortunately I did send an email to the Ramsey secretary asking how to make a formal complaint but she didn’t answer my email.

Since this review I have had some of my issues resolved at the Duchy Hospital with my consultants secretary Becky Jenkins she was absolutely understanding caring and put me at ease and made me feel confident going forward. This lady needs to be commended on her people skills and her problem solving thank you Becky

Thank you for your feedback. It is very disappointing that we have not met your expectations, and I am sorry that you have experienced challenges with administration aspects of your service.

Gail Salway is not employed by Ramsay Duchy Hospital, but by the surgeon himself and she is also an NHS employee. I am glad that Becky Jenkins, the Ramsay Duchy Medical Secretary has fully supported you. I understand that she has helped coordinate challenges with your GP, and that you have arranged to talk further if you need any additional assistance. I am glad she has put you at ease and restored your confidence. Becky is confident that she can help fully resolve any outstanding administrative challenges that you may have and is there to support you as and when needed.

Woodland Hospital Kettering

I underwent an op at Woodland Hospital Kettering on 17/01/24. The whole experience was very positive in the leadup and during my stay. The staff were without exception, all very attentive, reassuring, polite and professional throughout. The facilities were kept very clean and tidy.

There was a slight delay before my procedure but I was kept fully informed of what was going on at all times.

Thanks very much.

HoLep surgery at Berkshire Independent Hospital

My husband who had never been in hospital in all of his seventy years was a bundle of nerves but of course would not admit it. On arrival at the Berkshire Independent Hospital we were greeted by a very polite receptionist who checked us in after a brief hiccup, we waited no time before we were taken to the ward . He was then greeted by two amazing nurses who treated him like an old friend and the laughter started, made him relax completely. Once all checks were done he was taken to theatre for his HoLep procedure by Mr Adam Jones ,a couple of hours later I got a call from my husband “ OMG I feel great, no pain I can’t believe that I’ve just had an operation” thanks to Mr Jones and his team he had the most amazing outcome. Post op care was second to none, from the nurses, catering staff, (great meals) cleaners. After leaving hospital he was called the next day to check that he was doing okay which was very re-assuring. Thanks to you all his quality of life has change so much it’s nice to see him getting back to his old self after only four days, so onwards and upwards from here.

I would like to thank my consultant and…

I would like to thank my consultant and his team. I had a full hip replacement under Mr Shah at The Woodlands hospital, Kettering.
I would like to personally thank Mr Shah for his years of experience, knowledge and commitment to his work. I consider myself a very lucky person to have had Mr Shah do my procedure. I would like to thank the team who took care of my every needs and concerns. Charlie my physiotherapist was truly knowledgeable and gave me the details of movement and exercises for my recovery. The nursing staff were attentive6 to my every need, Alex who oversaw my discharge was very thorough with equipment I needed ( very very grateful for the equipment) and how to have a great recovery with contact details for me if I had any concerns, which put me at ease. The pharmacist took the time to go through my pain relief and blood thinners meds, I found that he wanted to listen to my concerns and helped me understand what I was to do.
The food was amazing! Thank you.
I don't accept blood products, so they made sure what I would accept and what I wouldn't accept in regards to fractions ( I must say that when I went to my anaesthetist appointment I don't think he took me seriously in refusing blood and this had to be sorted hours before my operation which was my only concern but a huge concern for me) and the self salvage machine was booked for me, in the end I lost very little blood so it wasn't needed, but to have the consultant adhere to my wishes was imperative to me. Thank you Mr Shah and your amazing team.

Shared my clinical data against my wishes.

I was a private self pay patient.
Be very aware that Oaks Hospital Colchester and Ramsay Healthcare UK can not be trusted with your sensitive clinical data and most likely will share it even when you explicitly instruct them not to. When you make a complaint about it to the hospital director they will be so arrogant as to suggest that it is OK for their consultants to share your clinical notes if they deem fit and after admitting their failures in safeguarding your data will offer you an amount of compensation you would expect from Tesco if they sold you an out of date Quiche. £200 for breaching my data, really, you put that low a value on it?
Think twice before spending your money with these clowns.
Very poor show from a Billion Pound healthcare company.
If you value you data privacy keep well clear of Ramsay Healthcare.

Their New Hall hospital Salisbury refused my NHS referral for a pathetic reason. My guess is that the Cherry Pick the profitable operations only. Why is the NHS using these sharks. It's either a specialist hospital as advertised or not.

Absolutely awful

Referred to see a consultant at Euxton Hall Hospital, who informed me that I should get another job because of my condition. The letter to my GP (I incidentally did not receive a copy) stated that I did not have the condition!

Highly recommend

I arranged my knee replacement at Renacres Hospital by telephone whilst on vacation in the USA where I had booked my operation but cancelled due to the hospital increasing the price quoted from $14,000 to $77,500. Everyone at Renacres, from the staff at Reception, the nurses, the surgeon, and the post-op care, were super efficient, extremely helpful, and courteous. The Brits just don't realize how lucky they are having such great prospects for health care at reasonable prices!

I had a recurring lesion on my right cheek

I had a recurring lesion on my right cheek and the waiting list to see a NHS dermatologist was 3 months.

I sent detailed photographs to Ramsay Healthcare Dermatologist who informed me that the lesion was a Basal Cell Carcinoma and quoted me £650 to have the lesion removed.

The quote was clear as to what it included:- “Dr XXXX has reviewed your photographs and advised that he could remove the lesion for you in one of his see & treat clinics.” Checking their website assured me that they operate a fixed price service with aftercare support and were a big enough Healthcare Organisation to handle any problems.

The operation took about 20 minutes but three weeks later I was informed the BCC was not totally removed and I was quoted £440 to have a further operation to remove it. Without thinking, I just wanted the cancer gone, I booked the operation.

I had the operation and when I went to pay the receptionist asked if I had paid before. She was surprised I had to pay twice and said she would refer it to the finance department. A week later the nurse who removed my stitches was also surprised I had paid twice.

Unfortunately, the BCC had not been removed on the second surgery and Ramsay Healthcare had now referred me to the NHS for MOHS surgery.

There was still a 3 months wait to see a NHS Dermatologist and a further 12-14 month wait for MOHS surgery. Unfortunately Ramsay Healthcare had operated and charged me twice and I was in a worse position than if I had gone directly to the NHS.

I wrote to Ramsay Healthcare Hospital manager to ask him to explain the service I received. After a lot of chasing he told me the fixed price only applied to cosmetic procedures and aftercare only applied to in patient stays.
I wrote again to Ramsay Health Care Manager pointing out that none of this information was included in the quotation and I had paid twice to have the lesion removed which was not done.
This time the Ramsay Healthcare Hospital Manager replied the next day and offered a good will gesture of a refund of the second operation because the Terms and Conditions had not been supplied at the time of quotation.
I feel grateful that I have now only lost £650 to Ramsay Healthcare. However I have suffered one if not two unnecessary operations and over a four month delay to MOHS surgery.
To avoid a 12 to 17 month delay I had to pay again to a lot smaller healthcare company to perform the MOHS surgery.
I certainly did not expect a Healthcare company the size of Ramsay:-
1. to have an escalating pricing policy
2. to not have the facilities to remove a BCC
3. to dump patients back to the NHS
4. to give no support when things go wrong

Woodlands Kettering is a disgrace

I cannot begin to explain the problems I am currently facing with Woodlands Hospital Kettering. The management of my care is an utter disgrace, absolutely disgraceful. Impossible to speak to anyone on the phone, both NHS and Privately. Poor communication between hospital departments, no one knows what they are doing. It is a shambles, the hospital is a shambles and is not fit for purpose. I have worked for the NHS for 40 years and the treatment I am receiving from Woodlands as an NHS patient and Private Patient is disgraceful.

Poor service

Poor service, shared the insurance authorisation code many times for my wife’s treatment. Accounts team sending invoice letter repeatedly! Reception and Accounts team working separately without addressing Customer/Client as single voice. Wondering the quality of service in Private hospital!?!

Rivers Hospital

Rivers Hospital : Sawbridgeworth

I’m a bit thrown on some of these reviews… it must significantly vary across hospitals because my experience has been incredible.

From my very first appointment the receptionist almost couldn’t be happier to see me and we did some initial paperwork. My consultant Dr El Farra was on time and explained to me fully what was wrong, what treatment I needed and why. We got the date of my op booked in for just under 3 weeks later.

Op day itself was incredibly smooth and everyone was so kind and lovely. I was shown to my room before 7am which was better than many hotels I’ve stayed in!

I was the first op of the day which was great, especially being so nervous and having to fast. The nurse who took me down managed to help me calm down before going under general anaesthetic.

I was back up to my room, awake and feeling as good you could, just in time for England’s first world cup game. The food was decent and the nurses continued with their first class attentiveness and kindness. The same nurse who took me down later helped me get changed and brought me biscuits… she is a credit to your team. Annette and Jennifer were also so kind and lovely. Like they actually wanted to be there and look after you, unlike many staff in bog standard NHS hospitals.

Dr El Farra visited me later to confirm the op went well and wished me a good recovery. I’ll certainly be seeing her again for any future gynaecological issues. I’ve not even had to take any paracetamol post op which goes to show how careful she was. I even got a recording of the procedure in my discharge pack!

I was out that same evening and didn’t feel gross or groggy or upset. This was the best health experience I have ever had or witnessed. Hopefully I don’t ever need to come back but I know where I’m going if I do!! Thank you all so much.

Failed cataract operation

My dad was booked in for a cataract to be removed at Woodland Hospital, Kettering. They removed his cataract but didn't have the correct size lens to fit his eye, leaving an elderly man with no vision and placing him in considerable distress and vulnerability.
Over a week later and they still haven't got the correct lens, and don't know when one will be available.
They then blamed the patient for the failed operation saying it was his fault they couldn't fit the new lens because he was "moving his head too much".
Poor excuses to try to mask their incompetence for ordering the wrong size lens for his eye.
Very poor, 1 star given as there is no opportunity to award zero.

First class service

From pre-op through to post-op six weeks later Ramsay Health Care could not have been better. All the staff, nurses and theatre technicians were extremely professional and made me feel relaxed throughout my operation.
Mr Kelkar, my surgeon, who performed a laparoscopic procedure was by far the best consultant I have had the pleasure to meet.
I would highly recommend both Mr Kelkar and the Woodlands Hospital.
Thanks to all.

Tees Valley Middlesbrough

Tees Valley Middlesbrough
First experience with this hospital. Always been more than happy with NHS James Cook hospital.
Initial consultation- very quick, felt rushed, little explanation. Later had to call them back to get details which were not clarified face to face.
Arrived for my appt this morning:
No parking spaces - had to park on drive
Atrium full with minimal seating available
My appointment had been cancelled with no prior phone call
Had to go through the earlier procedure of an enema and starving- total waste of time and very stressful
Although receptionist was very pleasant and apologetic there was no explanation given for cancellation
I did get a call an hour later rearranging the appt in Tees Valley but I would be much happier to go to James Cook.
My first experience of private healthcare has been far from positive.
