Sadly Real Life profited from our late mother's dementia – Very disappointed with this company after she paid off her funeral for 10+ years. Her payments stopped when her bank card changed and no other family members were notified. She was notified...but people with dementia don't answer emails and don't have a phone to call. 11 months later she died and they did not pay a cent after taking her money for her funeral for 10+ years. Real Life insurance ethics are disgraceful. Zero stars if possible. No care - just profited from her payments and our family were left with the funeral bill. Grief is horrible enough - they had no remorse. It was shown in their actions during this process.

The most expensive I came across but unfortunately the only one who would insure my husband for a condition he was born with, so not life threatening . We were paying over $200/month. Circumstances changed, we no longer need it, so I cancelled it 3 days after making the monthly payment. Mine (from a different company) was refunded in full. Real however "cannot issue a refund"! Understandably. I'd hate to take away 1/2 hour of the CEO's wages! 😡😡
Please think very carefully before taking out funeral insurance with Real Insurance.
Having dealt with them following my stepfather’s death, then my mum’s five months later, and now a few years later an uncle’s, I can honestly say they have made already heartbreaking times far more stressful than it needed to be.
The level of complexity, delays and overwhelm they place on grieving family members trying to finalise funeral and estate matters is unlike anything else I’ve experienced.
Please don’t add unnecessary stress to your loved ones. A far simpler and kinder option is to set aside money in a dedicated bank account specifically for your funeral.
The most expensive Insurance I have come across. They claim to help Seniors. In what way? By ripping them off? I firstly cancelled my car insurance and then my house insurance. They are a joke.
I am now insured with another company and saving alot of money per year. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this company at all.
Your ads doesnt feel Australian. No one interested
REAL INSURANCE is by far the worse Insurance company I had ever come across . They hound you like debt collectors if you miss one payment. I was harassed at work with million phone calls . I ended up cancelling all our insurances and gone through the bank now . As it goes directly through my account.
They provide simple, easy to understand insurance.
If you chose Real Insurance and accidentally miss a payment. They will harrass you with phone calls.
Tried to increase my life insurance which I have had for 7 years and because I answered yes to having diabetes and now free of it declined my increase. This is discrimination to people and also not legal. Discrimination against people with diabetes in life insurance is unlawful in Australia under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA). Bunch of assholes
After any late payments I would be hounded by up to 10 phone calls a day. After 12 months of dealing with this harassment I was offered a better policy with another insurer. There was no option to cancel my policy on the client portal, so I emailed requesting to cancel and specifically requested no further phone contact as I now live remotely with no phone service. Instead Real Insurance continued to hound me phoning me day and night. When I went into town I phoned them requesting to cancel only to be put on hold for 15 minutes and told no-one was available to take my call. This is surely fraudulent conduct. Absolute avoid.
I took out life insurance with them, a year later the premium went up with 25% so what they do is it go up every year till you can not afford it any more. I phone them on the 9 September 2025 to cancel this policy they said they will phone me back, did not phone me back for 3 weeks but put 3 payment throw my account. They phone me today and said they will send me a cancel form nothing .THIS INSURANCE IS A SCAM NEVER WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THEM
I am not a policy holder but one wonders about the incredulous sum of money they are obviously spending on promoting their product with saturation advertising on tv; and conversely, the number of negative reviews by the legion of disillusioned policy holders that appear below. This company comes across as a serial scammer.
Don't go with real insurance. They try and rip you of after 1 year of being with real. Their promise is that you get 10 percent back of your 1 year premium after 1 year when they didn't come to the party when I rang up to get it after 1 year.
The woman on the phone was RUDE and not forthcoming in giving my $100 back. UNTIL I EVENTUALLY SAID THE WORDS A CURRENT AFFAIR CHANNEL 9 TO HER, SHE WAS QUICK TO CHANGE HER ATTITUDE AND TONE OF VOICE TRYING TO WALK OVER ME. I HAD THE LAST LAUGH AS I PUT THIS RUDE WOMAN IN HER PLACE AND I GOT MY $100 BACK.
WORKS ALL THE TIME WHEN YOU MENTION A CURRENT AFFAIR. It is time that people stand up to these money hungry insurance companies that try to make you out to be a fool.
I thought AAMII and Woolworths and Suncorp were bad.
But now they have proven to be the absolute worst. All I wanted to do was adjust my start date for car insurance. They couldn't do it. Today,I tried in vain to get through to the so-called service department. Didn't matter what I did couldn't get through their B.S menu. All they did was push my buttons. Tried for about an Hour. Got through using the new sales menu button asked to be transferred and they took me back to the carousel of hell in the menu. Contacted complaint asked to phone me back Did't,So cancelled and going to RACQ. Check before you buy. Woolworths and others suncorp etc run by the same crap corporation HOLLARDS. Don't do it to yourself folks. These are the ones to keep away from in my opinion. Will be taking further action about that and I will comment Later. Thanks for Reading
regards Kevin
I wanted to cancel my policy as I am no longer working and was told to make the request in writing, which I did. Then received an email telling me that someone from customer care would call. No phone call. So I phoned again and was told they were all busy and to expect a priority call within the hour. Meanwhile 3 hours later and still nothing. Very, very disappointing. Customer service? Appalling.
After being insured with Real home and contents insurance for 20 plus years we finally made a claim for spoied food as our freezer died. So Real insurance response was to put up our premium by 38%. We claimed $400 and we were penalised by $660 per annum. So if you are insured with Real home and contents insurance, then don't make a claim as it is obviously discouraged and penalised accordingly.
Un-real experience with real insurance
I have a rental car as part of the policy, which was booked and confirmed, as well as the repair. I received confirmation on the bookings and was shocked to realise, upon picking up the rental car on Thursday late afternoon, that the "real" insurance company cancelled my rental booking (and will return my call on Monday). It's sad to realise how low a "premium" and well-paid service can get. How low can staff delivering this service get to and is truly concerning that humans in Australia are paid to deliver such a devastating outcome for others
Admittedly I was behind in 1 monthly payment of just over $230 for my Family Life cover. The amount of times these guys call you (and usually don't leave a message) is unbelievable. You'd think that you owed them millions and were about to skip the country the way they harass you. Very predatory and aggressive. Will be looking elsewhere now.
I cannot complain about general staff who dealt with me.
My issue is I took out Family Life cover in 2009 for $200,000 cover on a premium of $175.00 per fortnight at age 56. This company has move the fortnightly premium to $505 a fortnight as at January 2924. This has forced me to surrender the policy after paying almost $95,000. Under the deceptive policy wording there is no residual value at all.
My review with the company outlined that my premium would have reached $810 by 80 years with who knows what cost by 99 years of age when you stop payments or die.
The policy is not life insurance but an annual review policy where the companies actuary sets a value each year. So be careful on the policy you take out to avoid being ripped off.
