Late Bus and Terrible Customer Service

I had the worst bus experience of my life with this company in Portugal. Then, they refused to give me compensation with a lame legal excuse.

In February, I was supposed to take their bus from Nazaré to Lisbon at 10:45am, for an afternoon flight to Faro. But after waiting until nearly 12:00 noon with no bus, I worriedly grabbed an Uber and headed to the airport (about 90 minutes away).

The Uber cost about 140€. So not only did I lose the bus fare, I also had to shell out for an expensive car ride, or I might have missed my flight.

I filed a complaint with Rede Express and received a reply (one month later). They said that their records show the bus actually arrived at 12:09 and by law in Portugal, they don't have to give me compensation unless the delay was 90 minutes or more.

Okay, so no financial compensation. But I did not use my bus ticket. So the least they could do was offer me a reimbursement for another ride in the future. That would be good customer service.

But alas, I guess good customer service and Rede Express don't go hand in hand.

I will never use their service again.

PS: Their employee at the bus station was also very rude, telling me "You should speak Portuguese in Portugal!" when I inquired about my late bus. Again, what kind of customer service is this?

Unprofessional Service and Lost Luggage

Unprofessional Service and Lost Luggage

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Rede Expressos on my trip from Lisbon to Lagos (October 18, 2025, Reservation No. 5ICAPOJM4). My carry-on luggage was stolen during the trip after I was forced to place it in the bus luggage compartment. Despite insisting on bringing my carry-on inside the bus, the staff prohibited it and did not supervise the luggage area, even though the driver stood next to it. When we arrived at the destination, my bag was gone.

I immediately filed a police report and submitted a claim through the Rede Expressos website. Instead of support, I received a shocking response from a staff member at the Lagos station who told me, “If you don’t like Rede Expressos service, go back to your country.” This comment was disrespectful, discriminatory, and totally unacceptable.

Weeks have passed with no meaningful update or resolution, and Rede Expressos has not taken responsibility for the loss of my belongings — despite the luggage being stolen while under their care. I requested compensation for my lost luggage and personal items, yet I have received no reply or effort to resolve this issue.

I strongly caution anyone considering travel with Rede Expressos: your luggage may not be safe, and their customer service is unresponsive and unprofessional.

Rede Expressos must take responsibility and improve both their service and support.

Punctuality of buses was good

Punctuality of buses was good. Information at main terminal in Lisbon easy to follow. Bus clean. Major issue is recline angle of seats. When you have a very inconsiderate passenger (who was not even sleeping)in front of you who is large/ overweight and seats are able to recline so far back that you have to place your legs at an angle or up around your ears I think it is time to have the seats fixed in position or refund some of the fare as the trip was VERY UNCOMFORTABLE due to the ignorance of others. A paid service should supply comfort for all not just the selfish customers.

Horror Trip

On September 29, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., we took bus no. 67 from Lisbon to Lagos.
the driver deliberately failed to mention that the toilets were out of order. There was no advance notice, nor was an alternative offered. The driver did not provide any information.
A driver like this is simply not suitable for the tourism industry!
Only after repeated requests from passengers did he make a stop (1!) ... I am ill and takes medication and need to use the toilet frequently. The journey was inhumane and inexcusable for me and my partner and, in addition to the unscheduled stop, also caused a delay of 23 minutes! How do you think we feel? If that's your way of treating tourists, congratulations.

Terrible

Terrible. Even if the bus is not full you have to pay a full price to take an earlier bus. Why? there are seats available, this doesnt make any sense. The buses must be 30 or 40 years old. No ability to charge your phone, broken seats, the clock on the display was set to the wrong time, and the LCD monitor was out of service so you had no idea where you were because the driver also didnt announce any stops. The ticket information in Peniche was horrible service and a rude employee asking for a ticket number and couldn't even explain how many digits that is when I had another reference number booked through Omio app as well as the QR code. Completely useless service and he got very annoyed that I didnt have the number. What kind of service is this? He should be there to help not act like this. I also spoke with two other drivers who barely spoke a word of English. This was not a good experience. Its dirt cheap, because the buses are also dirty and old.

Lisbon Orient to Portimao

Lisbon Orient to Portimao
No wifi for the first half of the journey. Made driver aware then he managed to switch it on.
The "direct connection" included a stop and delay with a bus change.
Arrival half an hour late so the last bus to town has departed.

1 star

1 star – Left stranded at night with my child. No help. No refund.

On April 27th, I bought two Rede Expressos tickets from Porto to Lisbon. I arrived at the station well in advance with my young child. We waited patiently, watching the information boards and listening for announcements. The platform changed multiple times, the bus never appeared, and then the departure vanished from the board altogether.

At least five other passengers were in the same situation — the bus departed without any proper signage or communication. We went to the information desk and were told there had been a communication failure. By 10PM, the Rede Expressos office was closed. We were left in the street with a child, at night, with no alternatives, no help, and no way to reach anyone.

Rede Expressos now refuses to issue a refund, hiding behind GPS data that proves nothing except that some people managed to board. They failed to provide the service I paid for — period.

Their “solution”? A worthless ticket voucher, which I completely reject.

Avoid this company at all costs. If anything goes wrong, they will not help you, and they will not take responsibility — even if you're stranded with a child. Total lack of empathy, zero customer care, and shocking disregard for basic human decency.

Horrible service

Horrible service. A shame for international tourism. I bought the ticket through the website the day before, the bus arrived late and when I presented the QR it showed that it was invalid. The driver didn't tell me why or what I should do and he pulled me out of the line. The lack of respect continued at the ticket sales counter where they did not offer me any help since they have nothing to do with online sales. In short, I lost the trip and had to buy another one through Flixbus, which left on time and without any problems due to the online purchase. Never again by Red Expressos.

Impolite unjustified manners AVOID AT ALL COSTS

From setubal to odemira bus n. 80 The bus driver obliged me to put my backpack in the bag store although it wasn't too big (half full 38 liters, 7 kilos, I just traveled with the airplane) and I told I just could put it on me and between my legs. Of course now aboard the bus is not so full of people and there's plenty of space. He was rude and misbehaving, it was raining and immediately told not to get on the bus. He asked in Portuguese where I was directed to (none of his business, it was clear he just asked it out of the blue) as if it wasn't clear I wasn't from here, I answered in English and he just made and awkward face. Never happened to me before in my entire life. I'm never using your services anymore, going to report it on as many reviews website as possible and if something should happen to my luggage you're going to hear from my lawyer soon. Shame on you.

DRIVER REFUSED MY BICYCLE !!!

I bought a ticket to travel from Aljezur to Peniche via Lisboa sete Rios today. Bus n'78 to lisboa : I took a bike ticket on the app for 5 euros + 26 euros for the trip. THE DRIVER REFUSED MY BICYCLE saying that it should be packed. In a bag. Nothing is written about this subject neither in the app when you book neither on their website. People travelling by bicycle are supposed to carry a bike bag with them ? What the actual F? In All Europe you can travel with a bike in busses, trains, no problem. But in Portugal you need to dismount your bike and store it in a bag when you take the bus.

Driver was super agressive and unpolite. We are in 2024 & welcome to rede Expressos: worst transport company in Europe.

Company do not want to refund when its their fault

I bought a ticket for a trip and when I tried to pay I said it was an error. I tried again and it worked the second time. When I went to check the confirmation the 1st ticket was paid and now I have 2 tickets for the same journey. When I called the company they only want to refund me 50% of the ticket when there was a fault in their system!! Very very bad policy. Never again!!!
