I’m an experienced traveler renting…
I’m an experienced traveler renting cars all over the world even in countries which internationally are not confirmed like Western Sahara.
Never I had any problem paying the deposit of a rental car with my 4 ! VISA and Mastercards.
In this case I rented the car in the internet over the platform rentalcars.com at an exceptional cheap price and PAYED with my VISA card like several times before.
But when I landed in Croatia and wanted to pick up the car the employee at the desk of okmobility (partner of rentalcars) told me he can’t accept any of my cards because he couldn’t block the deposit …
I told him to try it with my cards because I know you can block the deposit on my cards. but he denied to even try it.
He said only „creditcards“ (America Express, Barclays, …) are accepted to pay the deposit …
This was written down, down small below in their conditions …
In other words you can pay the rental fee with VISA or Master but not the deposit and it’s not clearly mentioned and not explained.
Why if he’s a serious business man?
There’s is absolutely no advantage or more security of the credit card - only when your thinking about playing some tricks over your client …
Then I also offered him the deposit in cash but he denied it …
So I was there standing with my 11 year old daughter and he gave a f…
Then he came with an “offer”: I could get the car for a price 5 times higher and no deposit needed - and surprise … this I could pay with my VISA cards.
So there was no other option for me because all the neighbor car rentals are doing the same rip-off in the airport Split Croatia I had to accept this scam …
When I picked up the car it was clear to me why this strange behavior:
All cars of the company had scratches, bumps and dents. Many of them were looking like „made“ and not from normal car usage.
So maybe the idea behind it is like sucking the damages the client has not found or filmed when pick up from the credit card.
I can not find any other explanation.
rental cars and okmobility never again.
Car rental refused after payment
After having paid the car rent at rentalcars.com, the local car rental firm in Bucharest refused the rental claiming that a normal Mastercard, issued by Cembra moneybank, Switzerld, is not a credit card. The credit card is used to pay the deposit. Then they propose to pay 320 Euros additionally to accept to rent the ca without the deposit. This is simply scam. Rentalcars will not pay a refund.
Stay away from RentalCars
I booked a car at Malaga airport through RentalCars. When I arrived at the location, I learned that it was closed between 11pm-7am and didn’t have the after hours drop off options. Since my return flight was leaving early in the morning, I wouldn’t be able to return the car and ended up not picking it up.
I was expecting a refund since I didn’t just capriciously change my mind, but was simply unable to use the rental and never picked it up. RentalCars charged me the cancellation fee equal to 3 days of rental regardless. I filled a claim , which was rejected. Be very careful with this company. If they get you, they will take advantage of you.
Worst customer service ever
Worst customer service ever. They were not able to change my reservation although the car rental company wanted to cancel it for free, they didn’t want to refund, they couldn’t change details of my reservation in the system. No flexibility at all. Avoid this company.
disgraceful customer service and a non-return of a 1,000 euro deposit
I have written to
1. Rentalcars.com
2. Zurich Insurance
3. Nogliarre
** I have NOT made an insurance claim BUT they have told me to contact Zurich Insurance.
** Nogliarre have not refunded my 1,000 euro deposit and has failed to reply to my emails.
** everytime I contact Rentalcars.com all I get is a reply from a different person each time passing me to someone else BUT always asking for an evaluation of their service !! ridiculous.
** when I call the international Rentalcars.com customer services number all I hear is a message in Arabic and no English option. How ridiculous. Maybe this is intentional ??
My full story is below:
- we picked up the car from Turin after signing all the documents in the Nogliarre Office on Via Magenta.
- As we drove out onto the Main Street, a lorry driver wound down his window and pointed to the rear tyre drivers side. Then I noticed that the dashboard alarm had registered a low tyre pressure. I then pulled in immediately into a small petrol station. The car tyre was completely flat. An Italian man tried to help me and we realised that there was no spare tyre in the boot. The car had run flat tyres.
- The screenshots sent to Rentalcars.com will show that I called the emergency car recovery number several times. I spoke after waiting for many minutes to an Italian lady who could not speak much English but said that an English speaking operator would call me. After waiting a long time, I called again and was told the same thing, BUT noone called me back. I also called the Nogliarre Office, but they said to call the emergency number.
- After several hours no one had called me back. My wife and 11 year old daughter were also with me in the car and were quite upset.
- I then called my friend in Saluzzo (our destination from Turin) as well as our hotel and they also tried to call the emergency recovery number.
- In the end I drove to a car tyre repair garage. They did NOt have a new run flat tyre but they said they would order one which would arrive on Tuesday 25th July. We were due to return the car on Monday 24th July. In the end, they replaced the flat tyre with a normal tyre so at least we could drive to Saluzzo and not be abandoned in Turin.
- They gave me an invoice for the new run flat tyre, BUT they did not want to charge me for changing our tyre to a non- run flat tyre.
- Finally we drove away and within a few minutes the low petrol alarm went off. I was told that the petrol tank was almost full when I signed the office documents, but obviously this was incorrect.
- we then had to find a petrol station to fill up the petrol tank. We finally left Turin and arrived at 8.30pm over 4.5 hrs after picking up the rental car.
This whole episode was awful and I would like to complain about the service we received.
I have sent over 20 emails to various people BUT no-one will help me or give me useful info.
Run away- never trust rentalcars
Rentalcars doesn’t stick to there agreements, not trustworthy at all. It ended up costing a lot to believe rentalcars would help me and fix the problems.
Dont rent a car there
Do not hit the wrong button on their website!
We went on our reservation to see if there was a fee for canceling the reservation because the car was pretty expensive for what it was. We typed in our reason and my husband accidentally clicked the wrong button and it canceled our reservation and charged us over $200. We immediately called (within 2 minutes) and said we didn't really want to cancel the reservation and that we clicked the wrong button. We asked for them to reinstate the reservation that was just canceled. They said they could not reinstate the reservation and that we would have to pay the penalty fee because we clicked the button. The only thing we could do is rent another car (and still pay the fee for the first car). When we asked to speak to a manager we were told there was not one there. We were told we could dispute the charges, but we couldn't dispute them until after the date we were supposed to return the car. All we needed them to do was reinstate the original rental we had a few minutes prior for their original (high) price. They said because it was our fault and not something in their system they could not. We could not speak with anyone else and we could not dispute the charges for a couple weeks. All we could do was pay more money to secure another rental. We went with another company.
FRAUD and SCAM
Rent from car dealers directly instead!
Rent from car dealers directly instead!
I rented a car through booking.com, a platform known for its good customer service. However, when I encountered issues with car rental extra fees, I was transferred to their sister company, Carrentals, for resolution. Unfortunately, Carrentals proved to be unhelpful and unsupportive, despite having a strong case. They lack transparency and upfront visibility regarding the extra charges imposed by their marketplace partners. The customer service experience was simply terrible. They are an ineffective middleman that fails to stand behind their customers.
Freud at Valencia Airport
Booked a car from Rentalcars in Sweden and paid the fee. At pickup I was asked for insurance but declained.
I sign the two papers as I always do to approve I have picked up the car but later I was charge 189 euro for insurance.
Rentalcars, cant help me.
They where the once who recomended Firefly and they should take responibilty to work with proper partners, OR help customers to avoid this kind of freud.
Never again RentalCars or Firefly
Total waste of time
Total waste of time.
Customer Service can be helpful but the UX is woeful and product is utter garbage
Surprise! Platinum card needed!
I had reserved an Audi Q5, but upon arrival at the rental desk, I was informed that I could not receive the Audi Q5 due to my inability to provide a Platinum or Infinity credit card. Instead, I was given a Cupra, a vehicle of a lower category and size. While at the rental desk, I made an effort to resolve the situation by allowing the Sicily by Car representative to speak directly with a representative from rentalcars.com over the phone. Unfortunately, this did not lead to a satisfactory resolution, and I was ultimately forced to settle for the inferior vehicle.
As per the Consumer Rights Act 2015, any prominent condition that could affect a consumer's decision or rights should be made clear and easily noticeable in the contractual terms and conditions. I have carefully reviewed the documentation provided by your platform and have not found any mention of the requirement to provide a Platinum or Infinity credit card at the rental desk. The lack of proper disclosure of this condition has caused me considerable inconvenience, as I had to adapt to a smaller vehicle with a group of four individuals and large luggage.
Both RentalCars and SicilyByCar carry the responsibility of ensuring their users are fully informed about their key terms and conditions. There is no justification for jeopardizing someone's holiday by surprising them with unexpected requirements, such as the need for a platinum card at the service desk. It's essential that these prerequisites are clearly communicated to customers to prevent any unwelcome surprises.
Helpful, but better to book directly with rental car company
The Budget office were we had to pick the car up was closed, so we spent an hour of calling Budget and Rentalcars as they shifted the blame to each other. Eventually Rentalcars refunded the money and Budget let us book another car, more expensive and in Heahtrow (we were picking the car up in London original). I think the blame here is mostly on Budget, but this would not have happened if we had booked directly with them, even if Rentalcars was a bit cheaper.
You will get charged more than you agreed
I paid for a car from Hertz. Hertz didn't have my car ready, and i had to wait over 90 mins for a replacement. Then Hertz charged me an additional £18 "tax" when the price I had originally paid was supposed to include tax.
I paid for a car I didn’t get. No refund.
I paid for a car I didn’t get. Customer service couldn’t care less. They take no responsibility and are thieving scam artists. Just book directly and don’t go through this dishonest agent.
Totally untrustworthy scam :-(
The agent Bryan Hegarty said I could not use my own in insurance, that that was illegal, and that insurance was included. When I asked for details on the insurence, he has no idea. Then he tried to sell me an insuranve upgrade which was more that the car rental. I rang the customer service helpline and they also could not provide any insurance details. You are taking a huge risk accepting their insurance, when they cannot provide a policy document. Never again ............... :-(
Great deals, easy to cancel, no support
I travel abroad several times a year to a wide variety of destinations around the world and almost in all cases I rent a car. From a small car to a mini-van or station wagon.
I find that Rentalcars is the best place to get good deals, cancelable till 48hrs prior to use and if needed to add excess-free insurance.
But it is important to understand that rentalcars is just an aggregator of sorts, like a meta-search engine, so do not expect to get any support for your rental. Make sure to pick a reliable rental company from the search results and keep in mind that sometimes cheap means cheap.
Defective car, Rentalcars does not take responsibility
I will never use Rentalcars again and recommend any sensible consumer to stay away. I booked a car in Greece through Rentalcars. The car was drivable but had numerous serious defects, that affected the experience massively. During the rental, Rentalcars customer service was unwilling to help, claiming that I should wait until after the rental to file a claim. I did that, with proof (photos and videos) of all problems. Rentalcars response was to acknowledge the problems, but the only compensation I was offered, ridiculously and outrageously, was an unknown(!) discount on future rentals! They couldn't even specify the amount or percentage of discount! What a disgrace.
