THIS IS JUST ANOTHER REVIEW ABOUT THE DISHONESTY OF THIS COMPANY AND ITS EMPLOYEES.
Not long after picking up the rental car we noticed a message on the dash that the "Engine will not restart after 533kms refill AdBlue".
The purpose of AdBlue is to break down the harmful gases in the exhaust system to meet the Euro6 emissions standard.
We contacted Rent Smart 24 about this, who confirmed by email that they would reimburse us the 25 Euro cost, if we arranged to purchase and refill the car with the AdBlue.
If we hadn't installed the AdBlue the diesel rental car wouldn't have started after 533kms, which was about half of our trip.
So, we did this in good faith; however, it has taken us nearly a month of emails back and forth to get partially reimbursed.
Firstly, the RentSmart24 customer service guy (Denis Donadio), said that the receipt for the AdBlue didn't provide enough information, even though we also provided him with a photo of the dash message, then after many emails, he finally credited our account with $25 Australian dollars instead of the 25 Euro equivalent, which is about half of what he owed us.
I know this is a small amount compared to other people's experiences with SmartRent24, but it provides another example of what it's like dealing with this company.
Also noting, that in my opinion the car was not mechanically fit for renting, if we had to purchase and install additive to the car to be able to complete our trip.
You can draw your own conclusions whether this is another one of their scams.
SO BEWARE: This company might give you a good car rental price, but way this up with potential issues you may have, as seen in the many negative reviews.

AVOID AT ALL COST RENTSMART24
PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING OR PICKING UP A CAR FROM RENTSMART24! On 17.10.2024 we rented a car from rentsmart24 for a couple of hours from Milan Malpensa airport (MXP). We went to a mall and drove 67 km in total.
At the pick up, we were shown a list of damages of the car. The damages are almost invisible to see to a human eye, even the employees weren't able to show some of them on the spot on the car. Some of them were non-existent. This is your red sign to see that something is wrong with the company.
At the drop off, the employee charged us 703 EUR for damages we didn't cause. While checking the car the first thing the employee did was checking if the door lock was working, as he probably knew that the door lock was not working. I have only used the remote unlocking, as most people use these days. According to the employees someone tried to stole the car. Their crime movie story was unreliable, as I was in the car the whole time, because I needed to work remotely and my wife and children visited the mall. As it was a serious accusation we asked multiple times to call the police to check the story.
Another damage that the employee found was a dot on the windshield, which is actually something that couldn't be documented on a photo, as the real size of the dot can be explained with a dot you write with a pencil. This was not mentioned to us, the employee just put it in the report.
After hours of quarrel, we didn't sign the document that we left the car with damages. The company immediately charged us the amount even it was after the deposit. If you don't buy additional insurance from them they'll charge you for all the damages the car has, even if you haven't done any damage.
If you do not believe this story, please read other reviews and read the price list for damages before booking. It’s not worth the risk of being charged for damages you didn’t cause. There are many other reputable companies out there that value their customers and operate with transparency.
Everything was fine, until they tried to rip me off
I would say everything was ok - the pick up, the ordered car, the personal experience, the price was sort of OK, I took their maximum 'premium' insurance coverage and paid in total over 260 euros... It was all ok, until I got an email from them about a supposed 'traffic violation'. They basically made up a story that we committed that violation on the same day that we took the car from their office and that they will keep our 45 euros as a so called 'admin fee' for transfering our details to the Italian authorities. After a long battle of emails they finally sent me the original notification from the police which, surprise surprise, had a date of 3 July, that is 2 months before our rental period, so clearly did not correspond to us, but to a completely different client from the past... Error, you may say... The problem is they lied on the email saying it happened on the day we took the car from their office (3 Sep)! They finally returned the money after a few weeks and threats of claw back through the bank. THEY NEVER APOLOGIZED FOR THIS PATHETIC EXPERIENCE, as if nothing happened, when in reality it was a theft attempt by one of their staff. Shame really, because of that they get 2 stars.

Finalmente, alle 14:00, arrivo al noleggio, dove ci sono solo due persone davanti a me. Mi aspetto quindi un’attesa breve, ma invece impiegano 45 minuti per servire le persone, cercando insistentemente di convincerle a fare un’assicurazione extra.
Avevo già ricevuto istruzioni via email di caricare i documenti online, cosa che avevo fatto, ma mi chiedono comunque di fornire gli stessi dati anche in forma cartacea. Dopo questa lunga attesa, finalmente arriva il mio turno; tuttavia, l'operatore riceve una telefonata e mi fa attendere altri 15 minuti senza possibilità di proseguire.
Sono uscito dal noleggio alle 15:05, dopo aver pagato l'assicurazione full casco poiché non avevo una carta di credito fisica, ma solo su Apple Pay. Ero talmente stanco che ho accettato senza neanche controbattere. Ho già prenotato il prossimo noleggio con un'altra compagnia, poiché questa esperienza negativa mi è servita come lezione per i futuri noleggi.
Consiglio di evitare questo noleggiatore se non si vuole perdere tempo e pazienza.
At 1:30 PM, I tried to contact the shuttle to reach the rental office, but the phone was busy for 5 minutes. Finally, at 2:00 PM, I arrived at the rental location, where there were only two people ahead of me. I expected a quick wait, but instead, they took 45 minutes to serve these people, persistently trying to convince them to purchase extra insurance.
I had already received instructions via email to upload my documents online, which I had done, but they still asked me to provide the same information in paper form. After this long wait, it was finally my turn; however, the operator received a phone call and made me wait an additional 15 minutes without allowing me to proceed.
I left the rental office at 3:05 PM, having paid for full insurance coverage because I didn’t have a physical credit card, only Apple Pay. I was so exhausted that I accepted it without arguing. I have already booked my next rental with another company, as this negative experience served as a lesson for future rentals.
I recommend avoiding this rental service if you don’t want to waste time and patience.

The rental prices are cheap because they then rip you off. scratches that are already on the car are made worse or additional scratches are deliberately placed on the car. Or scratches are made that do not deviate slightly from the designated places on the contract.
I literally have proof of what the car was like when I returned it and I have proof that the car was moved. By the way, more than 500 euros have been debited from my credit card while I was not even informed of what was going on. I had to send several messages to ask for my money back ( which i did not get back) and more then a week later I suddenly receive a photo of a scratch that was not there before.

These people are super super shady. First of all, when picking it up, the charge 'couldn't for through' - why? No amount was showing on the credit card machine, just put your pin in. Of course it's rejected. Then charged another 36 euro fee because I didnt vaccuum the car - yes there was some sand, but it's expected to be in perfect condition?? Please, it's just a cash grab. It took over an hour to figure out it was the clerk's error to put the holding out hard for the damage deposit and they even sent us the wrong co tract initially to sign. Totally unprofessional and just looking to charge more

I paid online with a debit card the fee for insurance and car rental and they happily accepted it but couldn’t get the car because they wanted a credit card from the person that booked the car as a guarantee. They don’t accept a credit card from a different person and same for the driving license.
They refused to reimburse the costs paid beforehand when I booked.

Great service, extremely handy process, easy communication. Angelo is a great guy, very helpful and gives great advice. Such a great experience with them. I’ll recommend renting directly with them website and not through brokers. Contract directly with them is much clearer and simple to understand. We got full premium cover for piece of mind and that’s exactly what we got. The check out took 2 minutes they checked the car pretty quickly, got the contract closed in no time and the deposit unlocked. Thanks guys

My family found rentsmart24 to be very accommodating. When we returned the car we were late for our flight. They had the transfer bus ready and waiting for us. In the madness, my son left his precious toy in the back of the car so after a quick phone call to main office they speedily arranged for it to be rushed to the terminal. We are very grateful to them for this. They were super kind during the process of getting the car and dropping it off and also for getting the toy back to its worried owner.
