Demands additional 30 eur per day

I booked a car with them through economycarrentals.com. They demand an additional 30 euros per day unless I make a deposit with a credit card: "according to our policy you must obtain Premium insurance". I don't have a credit card, but my wife does. But to change the name, they charge 70 euros. That's a scam, is it?

Stay away from this rental car company.

Stay away from this rental car company.
I rented one car from them which was in poor condition at the moment of pick up.
After 2 days I returned and they charged me 260 euros because I damaged the tail lights.
I showed them a video took when I pick up the car where clearly the light was damaged.
They replied that the video was taken on 25th of march in base of meta data (I never heard before).
But I dropped the car on 23rd, I said to them check your security camera where you can see when the video was taken and nobody reply.
I also had a insurance with Rent 24 and supposed to pay only 150€ as they advised in their office but they never mentioned that there is a HIDDEN CHARGE of 70€ and VAT on top.
They have change the of their company so many times, I know because I go so often to Milan Malpensa but the quality of their service is still very poor.
Stay away from them just spend bit more with serious rent car companies.

Had a reservation, but got cancelled

Had a reservation, but came 2 hours late, so they cancelled my reservation, even with the fact that I had checked-in with new arrival time.
This rule about cancel a reservation, is only RentSmart that knows about??
And of cause I had to pay 5 times my original reservation for another car.
So do not use this company.

I did not damage their car

This company has taken €157 from my credit card. Return the car early on the 18th exactly the same as I got it maybe a little few less and I mean a little maybe €10 they’re charging for fuel and damage I drove the car to my hotel parked at the hotel Drove it back five days later, not Mark did I put on it? Do not rent the car from these people it’s a scam. I’m going to have to go to War with my credit card company. Ruined my trip to Rome don’t give these guys access to you credit card

Great rental service.

Great rental service.
Used second time in Palermo. The first was in Catania.
Staff was very friendly.
They don't scam on you by virtual damages. I made video after picking up, and there wasn't any problem.
Card blockade was released on the day after returning car.
Highly recommend

Worst Experience

Worst Experience.
The associate in Catania airport office decided that for a microscopic dent on two letters of the front plate, I was liable to be charged 475 EUR. I wish I could upload some photos of the plate to show you what is my meaning of microscopic.

THIEVES!!! Avoid this company!!

Avoid this company! Or if you have no choice, at least use a third party website and choose their budget insurance, which will return any money rentsmart24 will be keeping from your credit card! My mistake was to use rentsmart24 official website, and chosen the confort insurance they had, which was not covering full car, but we only needed the car for a short ride, 123km in total over the weekend. They kept nearly 200€, for a damage that was clearly there for ages, but probably they didn't realise to take note of it at the right time and of course someone had to pay for it. The lady was very arogant and had 0 empathy. For the same price I paid for their insurance I could have had one from doyouitaly website, which would have returned us the money kept... but who was thinking that this world forgot what humanity is? Shame on you!

BEWARE OF THIS CAR RENTAL COMPANY – FRAUDULENT CHARGES FOR NON-EXISTENT DAMAGE

I want to share my experience so that other travelers don’t fall into the same scam.

I rented a car in Italy (Bergamo), returned it in perfect condition, and later received a charge of €293 for non-existent damage to the windshield. Here’s the breakdown of the charge:

€180 for a so-called "charge due to damage"
€60 for an additional "damage processing fee"
22% VAT applied to both
From the start, the process seemed designed to work against customers:
✔ When I picked up the car, they made me sign the contract before I even saw it. No employee was there to show me pre-existing damages.
✔ When I checked the rental agreement, it mentioned supposed windshield damage, but I couldn't see anything wrong.
✔ When I returned the car, no one inspected it in my presence.
✔ The next day, I received an email confirming that the car was fine and that my deposit would be refunded.

However, a few days later, they suddenly charged me for new windshield damage. The only “proof” they provided was a blurry photo with a flash reflection, making it impossible to confirm if it was even the same car. I requested a video showing the license plate and the alleged damage, but they refused to provide one.

Luckily, I recorded a video when I picked up the vehicle, and there was no visible damage to the windshield. This proves that the charge is completely baseless.

A SYSTEM DESIGNED TO SCAM YOU
🚨 They require a credit card to rent the car, which allows them to charge these fees without your presence or consent. Once the rental is over, they can simply take the money from your account, and you have to fight to get it back.

Now, I can’t help but wonder:
❌ Did they charge previous customers for the same windshield damage without ever fixing it?
❌ Will they do the same to the next person who rents this car?

After reading reviews on Google Maps, I realized I am not the only victim. This seems to be a regular practice by this company.

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF
⚠️ If you are considering renting from them, think twice.
⚠️ If you already have, take detailed videos of the car at pickup and drop-off, covering every inch.

I will not let this scam go unpunished. I am reporting this to consumer protection authorities and on every possible platform (Google Maps, LinkedIn, Instagram, TripAdvisor, etc.) so more people are warned.

DON’T FALL FOR THIS SCAM. SHARE THIS TO WARN OTHERS.

I strongly advise against renting from this company. Take detailed photos, document everything, and be prepared for unexpected charges!
THEY ARE CROCKS AVOID AT ANY COST !!!
THEY CHARGED YOU MONEY FROM EVERY SINLE CORNER EXCUSE THEY GOT.
I have got all pictures and videos as a proof how rude their staff are and dont care if someone recording them. i have before and after car videos with the same condition even i cleaned up car thoroughly without any expired food left which i got when i got car.
Staff is so rude to us and asking weird questions how i got british citizenship etc its so awful and charged us £800 as deposit i am working as a Cyber security Specialist. We ignored and ot our wrong car we ordered 4x4 by paying expensive money in result we got cheap Japanese car and already very bad conditions. There is expired fruits under car seats i showed that to the guy he said its normal you can drop car off in same stage. Now i already paid the amount 6 months ago via discovercars they cant refund it back. We got very basic insurance under this price which has only collision cover. They refused to replace car which i ordered and said speak to discover car. They left us no option to get this car as we dont want to ruined our trip. When i drop off that cheap car it has already cracks on screen and dents which i made the video already showed that guy he completely ignored it and said you took this today even i dropped the cat in morning and proved him he is wrong but still he said he will charge a whole deposit of £800 as windcreen and dents i made in 2 days trip where i just drove in venice under 150KM i drove in that little journey according to them i damaged the car lot. They are crooks avoid any case they are so shamless and looking to charge customer in every side of car. I made a dispute to credit care company to recover my money now.

The car would not start !

They provided me with a car that was not usable. The battery was flat and would not hold a charge. I finally got it going to take it back to their depot and they then made me pay the refuelling fee even though the car would not have restarted if I went to a petrol station (as it needed jump starting every time it was switched off!). Very poor from them.

Very Bad company they are scamers

Very Bad company they are scamers , they just show you the low price to attract you . after you book a car from them then they scam you with false damage showing tricks . i rented a car from 19 feb 2025 to 23 feb 2025 . i drived good didnot got any damage i returned the car and after one day i got email that the car has slight damge on door and bumper so they took all my reserved money that was 670 euro . i didnot hired the car first time i go to italy 6 to7 times a year. a slighter scraches are ignoreable alot of other companies do but this company just search where they can scam you . they just hate if you are insured from other companies that's why they are looting the people like this . now i sent my claim to my insurance company i hope i shall get my money back .But never ever go to this company . you will regret after that .

Avoid This Rental Company – Unjustified Charges and Unprofessional Conduct

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Rentsmart24. Upon returning my rental car, they falsely claimed there was new damage to the windshield, despite the fact that my own photos from pick-up clearly showed pre-existing scratches. They provided no real evidence proving the damage was new and refused to acknowledge the poor condition of the glass at the time of rental.

To make matters worse, they charged my card without my consent, and I was never asked to sign off on any return document. When I requested proper repair documentation, they only provided a vague excerpt without any proof that the alleged damage was actually repaired.

Their staff was unprofessional throughout the process, and their refusal to provide transparent evidence suggests this is a common tactic to unfairly charge customers. I have now escalated this matter to the consumer protection authorities and will take further legal action if necessary.

I strongly advise against renting from this company. Take detailed photos, document everything, and be prepared for unexpected charges!

Horrible company

Horrible company, the guy who i spoken with didnt even new about the local nsurance. Ive paid the local insurance, and still he wanted to hold a deposit.
Also, this mediocre company chargeme for cleaning the car, wich was not dirt.
Avoid this company at all costs!!!!!!!!!!!

Such a good car rental company we where…

Such a good car rental company we where picked up from the airport and taken 10 minutes to the rental desk the lady on reception was very pleasant and helpful we got our car within 10 minutes and where on our way will definitely be back 10 out 10

The usual low cost rip off

The usual low cost rip off. for the first time ever with any car rental my wife had to online check in some hours before (they even called me). the check in went smoothly, only to get notified several(!) hours later and one hour before our flight, that the credit card was not accepted because it is a prepaid credit card. since i have a normal credit card we asked for them to out me as main driver so i could give them my card for the deposit. the driver change is 70€!! at any other serious car rental you decide at the counter while pick up and you dont get these problems. be careful, dont make any mistakes while booking, otherwise they will find a way to screw you!!

DO NOT EVER CONSIDER USING THIS COMPANY!!!

I arrived after midnight, I was given a copy of the contract with all the details and paid the amount written in the contract, was asked to sign on a digital device. Only to find out 3 days after that I was charged 75 euro for night charge. It was hidden in the contract I signed digitally that I never was given the chance to read it or be advised about. the copy of the contract was sent to me via email 2 days later.

Stay away from these scammers!
