Early days

Not had much of a chance to test this product yet but what I have noticed is the smoothness of the chain ( what I can feel through the pedals ) gear changes seem smoother as well. Look forward to better weather and longer rides to fully test this product

Really works!

As a bike hire company dirty chains are always an issue. Here at Lakedistrictbikes.com we only hire out top end bikes which need to be in pristine condition. This product not only makes the drive train work incredibly smoothly but keeps everything so much cleaner as dirt and dust does not stick to the chain .Yes we do have dry days and dust in the Lake District. But also lots of wet or damp days and the chains treated with Revolube are not showing any signs of rust, and are still bright and clean. I look forward to the entire drive train lasting so much longer than before. All new chains are now treated with Revolube as a matter of course, similarly older chains when fully cleaned and degreased are treated with Revolube.Revolube has reduced my cleaning workload and ensures the entire drive train works efficiently for longer.

Revolubes

I recently purchased a bottle of Revolubes and have used the product on two bike chains in very bad weather conditions . The results have been impressive despite the conditions and the cleanliness of the transmission parts have given me the best results I can recall .

Hello Raymond,

Thank you for your review.
The visible spots are iron chlorides, not rust (that is iron oxides).
This raid can sometimes occur for steel alloy, used to produce the chain, that contains a lot of iron but a small amount of manganese and chromium. Salt coming from road salting acts as a catalysator for the chemical reaction, which performs faster and produces more iron chloride molecules.

Iron chlorides are not rust, although they might look similar as they have red - orange color, and do not cause chain’s jamming and aging. The raid will disappear during normal operation.

You can find more information on iron chlorides under:

I'm not ready to rely on this for months at a time

Normally, I clean the chain every weekend. After a through chain clean with petrol, detergent, and washing and drying, I applied the levolube as directed, and also wiped the chain plates. The drive train seemed quieter than normal and shifting was slick. But after two rides of approx 60 mile each, the chain and rear cassette were quite dirty. I repeated the cleaning and oiling process and then had a 25 mile ride in the wet. At the end of this ride, the chain looked clean - but two days later the chain and sprockets had a lot of rusty marks (I've never seen that in the 4 years I've had the bike). I did not clean them but went another 70 mile ride, and the rust disappeared.. It does not seen to have reappeared after a further 3 days and the chain looks clean. For me, the jury is still out, and I can't upload photos to demonstrate the issues. I will see how things go, but I have not cleaned the chain this weekend! I have asked the company for guidance on keeping the chain clean since they state it is a "permanent" bond resistant to water and solvents (grit must get into the rollers) -but so far no response.should I wash it with hot water and detergent, or solvent?
Having seen the answer below re the "rust", that is reassuring. But I would still like to know how to care for the chain, in terms of keeping the rollers clean of grit.

By far the worst chain lube I have…

By far the worst chain lube I have tried. Very poor performance in the wet. It works well for about 20 miles but forget it for long rides. I cleaned the chain twice using petroleum ether (as per their recommendations) and ensured it was perfectly dry before applying the lube. Results were so poor I wondered if I had been sent a placebo sample!
Just can't believe some of the positive reviews. One star because I like the smell of it.

So far so good. Very impressed after a couple of heavy muddy rides and shower cleans. Lube on the chain still looks good.

Given the price of this chain lubricant…

Given the price of this chain lubricant was over £20, I was disappointed to find it preformed worse then many of the other good chains lubrications
I currently use, after running this lubricant for a week on my chain , I ended up with a dirty sticky chain, I would not recommend this product to anyone as even a acceptable chain lubricant .
Overhyped & overpriced product .

Performed well

I was sent a small bottle for postage cost only (although even that was £4 something). It's easy to apply, thanks to the dropper in the bottle cap. My bike has performed well since I put it on.

After preparation and first…I now have the quietest and cleanest drivetrain I have ever had

After preparation and first application, I now have the quietest and cleanest drivetrain I have ever had.

I have used many different lubes over the years and can honestly say this is the best yet. It needs a little bit of preparation of the chain before the first application (solvent cleaning down to bare metal), but in my opinion this is worth it for how quiet the chain becomes after first application.

I have used it now for over 200 miles from the initial application in cold wet and dry conditions and the chain has remained quiet and remarkably clean. Even after wet rides there hasn't been any signs of rust spots that usually happen with other lubes.

Another big bonus is that drivetrain friction seems to be better. Not scientifically measured but the cranks spin backwards more freely than with previous lube and continue to do so even after 200 miles of use.

Revolube 1 month test

I was approached by Revolubes with the offer of testing their bicycle chain lubricant. Upon scrutinising the website I was very excited to try it out. After conversing with Revolubes I was given the impression that I might need to only lube the chain every 1000 miles and the lube would not collect dirt and prevent rust. As with any claims that aren't entirely impartial, they must be taken with a pinch of salt (or in this case; dirt!).

I painstakingly prepared my existing chain by cleaning and degreasing entirely using an ultrasonic cleaner and then applied the lube as directed. The test started well - the chain appeared to remain clean and ran freely for the first few wet commutes and there was no visible rusting. However, after approx 60 miles, the chain was noticeably 'crunchy' when pedalling and when examining the chain before the next ride I noticed rust appearing between links. I re-lubed and completed approx 100 miles on the chain including some rides over wet gravel. The drivetrain definitely remained cleaner than a traditional lube and more free of rust than a waxed chain but was in need of a thorough clean and re-lube after this time period.

I must note that the chain used was an entry level sram model which had patches of rust/oxidation from when it was waxed and ridden on wet commutes. I am unsure if this affected the lube's performance. I have thoroughly cleaned the drivetrain and fitted a more expensive kmc gold chain which I have prepared in the same fashion. 1 wet and dirty 20 mile ride in and the drivetrain is gleaming and chain running smoothly. Time will tell as to the longevity of this application.

In summary - objectively assessing the lube's performance for commuting I'd say it is still probably the best lube I've tried to date, although I remain skeptical regarding longevity and the lube does attract more dirt than a waxed chain. Given the retail price, with the lifespan I've experienced I am unable to recommend this lubricant however. If this lube retailed for around the £15 mark I'd say it was a no brainer!

I will continue to test the lube with the more expensive, non-oxidised chain and will update my review should my experience differ.

Really impressive bike oil,
Easy to apply, Low running resistant, while still keeping gear changes smooth and chain clean and not attracting dirt and debris and turning drive system black

Excellent performance!

I've had the pleasure to be using Revolubes bicycle lube for the past 4-5 months or so for my Carrera Vengeance MTB and the results exceeded my expectations.

Already after applying for the very first time, the bike seemed to ride and change gears smoother than when I first rode it out of the store brand new.

The eye dropper design makes it easy to apply a drop of lube to each chain link without spilling and using too much, making it very effective and efficient.

Will absolutely purchase this again once I'm out. Highly recommended!

Very good lubrication that produced enhanced performance on my bikes!

I applied revolubes to both of my bikes, road and MTB. In just one application the performance has undoubtedly increased. The bikes are smoother with a more precise change of gear and in turn transitions into the bikes being faster with less effort required.

The chains were pre-cleaned in petrol and each link had a dab of lubricant applied. Once the full chain was coated, I went through all gears to ensure the lubricant was conveyed to the cassettes, chain ring and derailleur.

The gauge of performance is from being able to cycle faster than my bike mate, downhill, on the flat and also uphill sections, a rarity before the lubricant was applied. My MTB would quite often crunch gears and struggle to change gear, now rarely do I have any problems.

I am very pleased with the lubricant, the bikes really do feel smoother and I would believe that the mechanics will last longer bring future cost savings.
