What a scam - Rheem service

Rheem is the service agent for Raypak pool heaters and I had the misfortune of having to deal with them recently.

My heater stopped working after 3 years, called Rheem as official service agent - they said they could get someone to me next day BUT I would have to commit to and prepay the minimum $280 fee. Feeling like I had no choice, they grabbed my Visa for first $180 and authorisation for the balance.

Next day the service guy did not arrive till 3pm despite being told it would be earlier, would not come up our driveway, walked up and said would try to fix it. Left him to it but 15 minutes later called me from his car to say he bled the gas but could do no more because it wasn’t compliant and so couldn’t test it either because it needed 2 hours to safely vent the LPG! The heater is installed outside!

Clearly just wanted to get home and I'm let in the middle with a heater that still didn’t work but still had to pay the full $280 service fee. Contacted Rheem, they said they'd try to help but all they can do for now.

I then find an independent expert contractor - he turns up on time, finds a blocked jet and an ant farm in the control module, fixes it and test fires and all for $220 plus parts.

I go back to Rheem asking for some consideration or a refund and why their expert was no such thing etc. Their answer - bad luck!

Never a Rheem or Raypak for me if that’s how they work. Beware.
