Ritani - Bait and switch

I purchased a diamond online, paid the $1700 via the Amazon payment that they offer, they took the money and began to process my order. 3 days later I get an email that states in short, "sorry but we use third party vendors and your diamond is no longer available". Every bit of evidence I have gathered from this points to the following: the diamond I purchased was not listed properly and they sold it to me at too low of a price and then backed out on the deal (prove me wrong Ritani.....I dare you) once they started looking at things closer. They apologized and promised to "make it right". I then get two more diamonds offered to me that were lesser quality (lesser clarity, carat, and cut), than the one I purchased at the same price that I paid for the original. How is this "making it right"??? I can tell you what it really is. It's a classic "bait and switch" technique and it is illegal. I am going to be sharing this same review on Facebook, also with Amazon, and furthermore, I am going to be filing a complaint with the NY Attorney General. Criminal. PS - going on 5 days out and still don't have my money back.....

We are very sorry for your experience and know that buying a diamond can feel stressful and opaque. Our diamond supply is extensive and is provided to a number of partners. While our systems update regularly, there sometimes is a delay between a diamond purchase and a feed update on our website which means that sometimes diamonds on our site are already sold. Unfortunately, this is what happened here. We involved one of our gemologists in finding another high quality diamond for you. No two diamonds are the same and while she couldn’t find an exact match, she was able to find two comparable options. Both options had same cut and better colors (bringing the diamond color from an H which was a bit warm to an F or a D) but with slightly lesser clarity and carat weight. Both were more expensive at retail than your original selection and we offered them to you at the price of your original diamond.

Diamond margins can vary and we do have diamonds that we sometimes sell at cost. In fact, we are very open about this information through our diamond price transparency program on our website and that is shown for every diamond you can purchase. We are the only company that provides this to customers and think it’s important for people to know the value of what they’re buying.

In regards, to your payment, we do not charge credit cards until items ship. Your card was preauthorized for the purchase (via Amazon) and we voided this preauthorization as soon as you told us you did not want to pursue the options we presented to you.

Your feedback was really helpful and we are already thinking about how to better explain our operations to customers on our site. If you felt that way, we suspect others might as well. We take pride in being a top-rated jewelry company and are again sorry about your experience.

Great customer service, reasonable, quality, fast, and friendly.

Ordering through Ritani was great. I had questions about whether their diamonds were "enhanced" AKA laser drilled to remove impurities and their customer service reps got back quickly letting me know they are not. I opted to get a lab diamond because it's just that much less taxing on the environment and cheaper with lots of options. All the other diamond stores in the area claimed I would be getting a "Fake Diamond" don't listen to those losers - diamonds are diamonds whether you mine them or grow them. Just to prove it I had the jeweler I had set the diamond test it to make sure - YEP 100% diamond. Customer service was also able to send picture and video even if not available on their website. Very pleased. Thanks Ritani!

Doesn't stack up to competitors & No Confirmation Email

Compared to other major online diamond retailers, I don't think Ritani is meeting the standard. The lack of 3d video of diamonds makes them more difficult to decide between, especially when not looking at standard round diamonds.

The main selling point of this for me was to be able to have the diamond shipped to a store near me. That sounded awesome until I tried to do it. I never received a confirmation email, and can't figure out the status of it. Wouldn't recommend to others.

It's a bit concerning these issues on an item close to $10k with nearly $1k markup from their cost.

After communicating with Ritani we've resolved the email issue. Their customer service is excellent. Hopefully they fix some of their email issues and continue to improve their site. If they get the 3d videos up, that will bump me up to 5.

Ritani just gets it...

After months of waiting I finally popped the question. The staff at Ritani (Nicole) has been awesome working with me through getting her ring resized and back to my eager fiancé as soon as possible. My whole process with this ring from first purchasing it, doing a repair, proposing and a resize has been handled so smoothly and I would highly recommend anyone who’s considering buying a diamond or engagement ring online to use Ritani. Good prices. Fairly easy online process

Cite was pretty easy to order from. iPhone may have made it somewhat difficult to make financing order vs computer, but I figured it out after a few minutes of playing around with accepting disclosures and figuring out e-signaute.

Overall, fairly easy online process and solid online deals with quality service.
