INFERIOR PRODUCT AT A PREMIUM PRICE

I purchased a One Hundred and Sixty Dollar ($160) belt online for my husband. Firstly, the order went missing and then when the replacement belt was delivered a Ten Dollar ($10) belt from Kmart would have been a better purchase. I am bitterly disappointed with the purchase and the treatment from Customer Service Representatives on the phones at R.M. Williams. NEVER AGAIN!

Best Australian craftsmanship & always…

Best Australian craftsmanship & always feel great when I’m wearing RM Williams products. Boots have lasted over 20 years & love getting new ones for Birthday, Christmas or Fathers Day. Perfect gifts.
Great story how RM Williams started & the tradition lives on.

Return Garment

I was very impressed after purchasing a RM shirt online and finding out that the buttons on it were press studs and not regular buttons.
I was able to return the shirt, purchase the correct one and be refunded some of the initial shirts purchasing costs.
The turn around time to complete this transaction was AMAZING.
Real customer service!
Keep up the good work RM!!!

I’ve been a fan of R.M

I’ve been a fan of R.M. Williams for a long time – decades, in fact. I bought my first pair of boots in 1987 and they’re still going strong today, which probably says everything that needs to be said about how these products were originally made.

Since then, I’ve owned another four pairs of boots, along with belts, T-shirts, trousers and shirts. Across the board, the common themes have been comfort, durability and timeless design. These are products you can wear hard, year after year, and they just get better with age. The boots in particular are among the most comfortable I’ve ever owned.

The only real disappointment I’ve had was a pair of boots purchased around 2017. The quality on those was noticeably poor compared to everything I’d owned before. That period coincided with the brand being majority owned by L Capital Asia, and in my view the drop in quality was obvious. It was a genuine let-down from a brand I had trusted for decades.

Thankfully, since returning to Australian ownership, R.M. Williams feels like it’s back where it belongs. The quality, craftsmanship and attention to detail are once again what long-time customers expect. It’s a great Australian brand producing excellent products, and I’m very happy to continue supporting it.

R.M.Williams Southland terrible experience

After fighting cancer for the past two years, many surgeries and treatments, my wife bought me a $369.00 crocodile skin belt for my birthday to cheer me up. We needed to take it back as it was the wrong size on the 7th Dec. I was told 5 days but it arrived on the 23rd. OK that's fine and I understand delays and I received 3 emails ( one from Auspost and 2 from R.M.Willams) saying my belt had arrived and is ready for pick up. I go in to pick it up and am told by two ladies that I should have waited for a call (which was never stated in any of the emails, and the call ) as it is down stairs and they can't go down and pick it up. They were very aggressive and belittling in their manner especially one of the ladies and purposely made me feel like an idiot. They then decided to make me wait till after Christmas to make the phone call to come and pick it up. To purposely belittle someone to make themselves feel better is disgusting, if your having a bad day don't take it out on the customers. From looking at the reviews I can see I am not the only one to be poorly treated in this store. Go anywhere, but DO NOT shop at R.M.Williams Southland. They do not care about their customers even though the customers are what keep the shop open. I will never ware or shop R.M.Williams ever again after the treatment I received from these two women. Disgraceful

RM WILLIAMS

RM WILLIAMS – where have you gone.

As a professional pilot, I have purchased products and I have recommended RM Williams to colleagues around the world for many years. For that reason, I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience.
I placed an order in good faith and paid $849 for a pair of boots. After waiting over a month with no communication, I was required to contact RM Williams to track the order. I was then informed that the order had effectively been overlooked and that the boots were no longer available.
A day or two later, I was advised that the order would be cancelled and a refund issued. At the time of writing this complaint, more than two weeks have passed since the refund was processed, and six weeks have elapsed since the original order was placed, yet the funds have still not been received.
This experience reflects poorly on customer service and order management—particularly for a brand positioned as premium. I expected significantly better service, communication, and accountability from RM Williams.
As a result, I will be reconsidering my loyalty going forward.

Terrible experience.

I am writing to share a serious issue with a pair of R.M. Williams boots purchased for my son in September 2022 from the QVB store in Sydney, at a cost of approximately $700.
The purchase was made based on R.M. Williams’ long-standing reputation and its marketing of these boots as premium, durable, long-lasting products. Unfortunately, that expectation has not been met.
After approximately one year of normal wear, the rubber soles deteriorated and required replacement. While disappointing, this was not the primary concern. More significantly, both boots have since developed large tearsin the leather uppers themselves. Structural failure of the leather within three years is plainly inconsistent with reasonable expectations for a premium leather boot.
My son recently returned the boots to the George Street flagship store for assessment and was advised that R.M. Williams does not provide a warranty and that the damage was attributed to customer fault. This explanation is both surprising and concerning. The boots have not been subjected to misuse or abnormal wear.
Under Australian Consumer Law, goods must be of acceptable quality, including being durable, free from defects, and fit for purpose, having regard to their price and any representations made. A premium leather boot marketed as long-lasting should reasonably endure well beyond three years without the leather itself failing.
The dismissal of this issue without meaningful investigation or remediation is inconsistent with these statutory consumer guarantees, which apply regardless of any stated warranty policy.
Given the nature of the defect, the short service life, and the price paid, I consider these boots to have failed acceptable quality standards. This experience raises serious concerns about product quality and after-sales support for a brand positioned at the premium end of the market.
As a long-time R.M. Williams customer, this experience has been deeply disappointing. Based on this outcome, I would not recommend these boots to others and will not be making future purchases.

Disgusting customer service

After shopping around for a handbag and wallet, I went to 4 RM William's stores to find they don't stock hardly anything that they sell online, you cannot view the items before you buy, so I ordered them online, days later my order was still not dispatched so I spoke on chat mind you to Caroline from customer service. She told me my address had been red flagged because NSW had been put in twice, and I was on a list to be notified. When that was going to be I don't know 😕 she had my order details there in front of her with all of my details but told me she couldn't send the items, I would have to cancel the order, wait 3 to 5 buisness days for a refund and then complete a new order to be able to get the items. All she had to do was fix the address and send it, obviously to hard work for her. They are in SA I'm in NSW, it's easier buying overseas unfortunately!
After being a long time customer I will never purchase from RM Williams again, absolutely disgusting service, and you Caroline should be ashamed of yourself!

Great service in George St, but poor fitting in Westfield leading to too small a pair pf boots bought - so $700 basically waisted.

I have been a long-time RM Williams, but…

I have been a long-time RM Williams customer till now, but am now at a cross roads, but it has long troubled me that they have a deficiency in their jeans range.
I find the Victor is too skinny and tight in the legs, but then the next slim fit after that (the Loxton) is too baggy in the legs, and goes to a medium rise waist.
A model in between the two would be ideal; a low rise waist like the Victor, but more of a slim leg fit than the Loxton, but not as skinny tight as the Victor.
I hope they will consider this suggestion,
Sincerely,
Newell Barrett.

Boot resole gone wrong

After many years of use, I sent my boots to get re-soled. When I got them back they were super tight and didn’t fit like they use to. I tried to get wearing them in but couldn’t stretch them out. RMs did a complementary stretch but still didn’t help with the fit. I was advised to put in a foam sole (by a trusted third party provider) but again this didn’t help with the fit. At this point I had spent $240 to try and get them fitting correctly but unfortunately my favourite boots no longer fit me, so I either have to spend $700 for a new set or find another shoe, which is upsetting as I was expecting the resole to not change the feel of the boot to much and i wasn’t expecting to buy new boots. I have to say the staff at the store were extremely helpful and tried their best to fix the issue (with complementary stretch, advise etc) but unfortunately the boots no longer fit me and sounded like the store policy was not to replace these boots.

Never purchase RM Williams boots.

As a first time purchaser of RM Williams boots (for $700), I cannot recommend strongly enough not to purchase RM Williams boots. I most definitely will never again. After telling the sales lady who was fitting my boots in the Claremont Quarter store in Perth that the boots were incredibly tight, she told me that they are the right size, they should be tight and they will stretch out. 3 months later and they are still chewing up my heel. When I eventually took them back to the store in Claremont Quarter and showed them my heel, they took the boots back for their "Manager" to see what they can do. 4 Weeks later, I received an email to collect the boots, only to be told in the store that they cannot / will not do anything about it, and that it was my decision to buy that size boot (which is incorrect), and that is it! They simply refuse to take ownership of their mistake. I also note that I have seen other complaints here for exactly the same reason. I am not surprised that the highest percentage of reviews here are 1 star...as well as that RM Williams does not respond to any client complaints. Management and leadership of this company needs a drastic overhaul. Get it right RM Williams. You should be ashamed of these reviews.

R M Williams Wide Boots 2 piece soles

Wide Boots 2 piece soles

Purchased 2 sets of these after wearing through the leather on the lateral side of normal boots after about 8 years. Little toes split and wore through the leather. I still use these as yard boots after having them patched and new heels put on them.

The shoes with the 2 piece soles however lasted about 6 months each with daily wearing before the soles split at the join.

Not worth fixing as it appears to be a design flaw when both fail. I have spoke to two other people who have had the same problem with this style of boot.

Just lost confidence with spending a lot of money for poor quality.

The last set of 2 piece souls split about 12 months ago.

Products are brilliant but…..

Products are brilliant - love everything we have purchased.
However, customer service is terrible.
Last year I required a return, and it took me days to get through to someone. Their online chat is never available and if you fill out the form it takes them days to respond.
This year I have placed an order, received a confirmation but no further correspondence so I emailed them to find out where my order was, only to be told it was out of stock and they couldn’t fulfil my order. And it seems the only reason I found out about this is because I chased them up - happy to keep a hold of my money but not keep me informed of my order.
Unfortunately the customer service lets them down as the products are amazing.

Drift back from whence you came

R.W. Williams moleskins had a hard tab of leather on the back right pocket. Age withered it whilst the patina of the moleskins gained in purity. Yard or city play they washed just the same. Going to an R.M. Williams store wasn't to buy something fashionable. It was to buy something that was needed. Dependable. Representative. It became fashionable because of what it had been doing since R.W. put elastic to a single piece of leather. If one wanted to spoil oneself then maybe a bit of leather kit, a a platted belt for your nephew or nieces as you knew that they would never forget the first they ever had. The stores now seem bereft of heritage. The variety of boots makes sense but the inconsistency in the clothing line seems to have severed the link to heritage. With that gone so to is the insurance that this product is the quality I knew. Some things don't have seasons. R.W. Williams moleskins are one of those. If I am in town, I want them because I may not get back for a while. Fashion seasons don't count in the country and when I want to dress they certainly don't count. Because I depend on R.W. Williams being there when I need them. Not letting me down in the city or at home. Drifting from the R.W. Williams guarantee of dependability that I still value from half a century ago is to look at a river in drought. I want to buy R.M. because it was there at the beginning and I want it to be there at the end. Fashion supply chains may be tight but R.M. Williams has another value the origins of which were a dependable bloke that delivered quality when it was needed.
