Disappointing and frustrating Trackday experience
Was gifted a Trackday experience, and went out in one of the RSRSPa vehicles, a Hyundai I30N. 6 laps were included, with instructor. Have never driven Spa Franchorchamps, as many others that get a Trackday experience, I suspect so was very surprised that the safety briefing was a 10 second affair at the check-in counter.
When provided with the helmet, and placed in the car, the instructor "Phil" asked if I had driven the circuit before, and truthfully told him no (except in Playstation) and he then informed me about the "brake", "gas" and "turn in" points, and off we went.
The track was littered with Porsche 911 GT3, Mercedes AMG GT, Ferrari 288 and Lamborghini Huracans, all prepared for the track and driven by very experienced drivers.
The result was a very intimidating mix of ordinary track rental cars (by RSRSpa) and super cars, which means that the speed difference, cornering ability and general experience was so different that it generated countless dangerous situations, especially with the overtake left or right allowed.
On top of it, the instructor "Phil" totally failed in giving any pedagogic advice, instead resorting to screaming that braking was done too late, too soft, turn in not on the line, not using the curb, and finally to really undermine confidence, to grab the wheel and pull at it, over the entire 6 laps.
A very frustrating and disappointing experience, and 6 laps and 850 euro for something that could have been much better with a better management of car categories and with a better instructor.
