Ryobi is not the company they once were, avoid. very poor quality tools now and appalling customer service
I have had many Ryobi one plus tools over the years but the summer purchase of a ryobi lawnmower has finished off my relationship with Ryobi products. the mower did not work properly from the outset, repeatedly cutting out rendering it unusable. There was a crack across the battery housing (which I took a photo of). The overly complex forms to be able to set up a warranty repair did not function so a phone call had to be made for them to manually book in a collection. I did not have the original box (who has room to keep a lawnmower box)? so I returned the mower in a box that a garden sofa had been sent in. two weeks later the mower was returned in the same box and with them having reused the same packing tape, which obviously had no adhesive left. The carrier called me to have a look at the box as it was open and damaged as they had not adequately sealed it. the mower still did not function, repeatedly cut out and the crack remained in the housing. I contacted Ryobi again and arranged for the mower to be returned to the same repairers. this time they lost my mower for a month. after two fraught calls with an absolutely appalling 'customer service' representative, who couldnt be bothered to actually do anything about the missing mower and did not want to accept any repsonsibility on behalf of ryobi, I actioned a formal complaint,( which initially and without any rationale, ryobi insisited was to be made in writing and sent by snail mail, clearly compounding the situation). Eventually it transpired that they are perfectly capable of accepting a complaint by email. the following day they had miraculously located my mower, tried to shift the blame on me for 'inadequately packaging' the mower, even though it was the same packaging that they had returned the mower to me the first time. They claimed there was no crack across the housing and that it was a 'cosmetic scratch' despite me having supplied them with clear photos of a substantial open crack to the flimsy plastic battery housing. Eventually they did concede that the mower did not function and continued to cut out. I have been offered a refund or a replacement. I will no longer be purchasing any more Ryobi tools. the quality of components and especially the plastics used in Ryobi products has significantly deteriorated in recent years and their customer service/after sales service is appalling. whilst i will recieve a refund, i am left out of pocket with prices having risen since i bought this mower that i have not been able to use and the length of time it has spent at the warranty repairers or lost in transit, the time i have spent on the phone, filling in forms and emailing their customer services only to repeatedly be lied to and dismissed (how can a repairers twice deny a substantial crack to the main body of the mower- it's obvious!)
Ryobi is not the company they once were, avoid.
Purchase several tools over the past 6…
Purchase several tools over the past 6 mths. Last week a new telescopic tree pruner arrived by DHL. Unboxed it to find that the main body of the kit was broken. After having a really good look I realised It had obviously been damaged before and someone had tried to clean up the mess by removing the smashed polystyrene and taping it up. The item was scratched and as the damage was on the main part it couldn’t be used.
I contacted RYOBI and spoke to customer services. I was sent an email which I returned straight away with photos and a covering letter. It is now Wednesday and I’ve heard nothing. I’ve called and surprisingly they found my email without even asking me a question. I’ve been told they will collect it tomorrow and replace it. They obviously didn’t read the email I sent as I’m in hospital tomorrow so not sure how they are collecting it.
RYOBI is meant to be a new upcoming brand but they are happy to send out damaged repackaged items. I’m paying for brand new tools not broken second hand returns.
Not sure what I’m going to do. Maybe cut my losses and not buy any further items.
It was easy to order and the tools are…
It was easy to order and the tools are always great to use.
Very upset
Very upset, while it may not seem like a lot I maybe spent around $2,000 for Ryobi products, I have bought multiple batteries which are not cheap I have about 6 batteries that went dead and past the 3 year mark and customer service can’t help me out, the batteries don’t last long I will definitely going to switch to another product
It's not just Ryobi Painful battery removal. I hope they can find an easier, less painful way to switch batteries.
It's not just Ryobi, but the 18 v batteries are painful to remove for older hands especially those with arthritis.
Difficult assembly and too heavy
I bought the Speed bench from Home Depot twice. The first time I couldn't even get past installing the handlebars. I returned it and exchanged it for another. For the second one, I installed the handle bars but I couldn't align the holes in the table legs to install the bolts. I struggled with it and finally gave up. So I returned that one also. It's a good idea but difficult to assemble. Another thing, it is too heavy already. It would be even heavier using as a dolly with a load on it.
I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER RYOBI PRODUCT/ WELL NOW I WILL THINK ABOUT IT
I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER RYOBI PRODUCT. i will use what hand tools i have but NEVER recommend this product to anyone. NO PLACE TO REPAIR and you can't REPAIR yourself. it's only 3 years old sucks.. and a rip off of the customers. I know you could care less if you get bad feedback. ya already got my money but believe me i am going to at least enough bad feedback as i can. friends, social media. i even suggested my neighbor buy one and she did. now she is regretting that because she has seen how much a pain in the ass it has been for me to deal with this.
9-11-25. AFTER READING ALL THE BAD REVIEWS I FELT DEFEATED AND HOPLESS. I HAD TO POST MY EXPIERENCE AS WELL. FRUSTRATED AND MAD. WHAT A SURPRIZE! AFTER ABOUT 4 WEEKS OF TRYING TO GET SOMEONE TO USE COMMON SENSE TO HELP ME RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. I WAS CONTACTED BY RYOBI CUSTOMER SERVICE. MY ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED. EATING CROW IS NEVER A delicacy.
Ryobi extendable hedge trimmer
Ryobi extendable hedge trimmer , I find it quite heavy , it needs always on switch as trying to hold the trigger on is quite difficult when your cutting high hedges , had as a birthday present but having used it wouldn’t by one again .
Horrible Customer Service
Horrible Customer service - Does not provide shipping for people who live far from a service center. Refuse to help out other than point you to the nearest service center. Asked to speak to the director as I spoke to the manager, said that if I sent any complaints it would likely be him that answered. So there is no way to escalate an issue to higher up.
They find acceptable that an entire region is not service and that driving 4 hours is fine with them. When mentioning that they have no issues selling their tools in my region though, they were silent.
Easy to charge
Easy to charge. Holds its charge and fits all my Ryobi tools. Excellent purchase

customer doesnt help at all.mower has been in there service center now 10 weeks with no end in sight.no one tells me what when wrong with it.
All assistance short of actual help.
My issue was with batteries that would not charge out of the box. Customer service were responsive but not particularly helpful and eventually just ignored my issue.
Ryobi batteries and customer service are AWFUL!!!
I've owned a ryobi 40v mower for just under 3 years and have had to replace both batteries.
Most recently I called ryobi customer service to see about replacing a battery that would no longer charge and encountered awful customer service.
I didn't have proof of purchase with me when I called and assumed since I have a profile with ryobi and submitted it for a previous battery issue they would already have it on file, they didn't. The rude customer service agent told me she would send me an email to submit my proof of purchase and start the claims process. The call ended and I waited for the email which never came, so I had to waste more time on the phone with ryobi speaking with another customer service agent who did send the email and then advised once I submit my receipt they will send a confirmation to show a new battery is being shipped.
I submit my proof of Purchase and waited 3 days for a confirmation email that never arrived.
While I'm waiting for a response from ryobi for the battery in question, the battery which wasn't on the charger spontaneously combusted. While watching TV in the evening my wife began to smell smoke, I went to the garage and it was filled with a blanket of smoke. I had no electronics plugged in other than a spare freezer and the garage door openers and they weren't the source. After airing out the garage and doing a search I found the battery housing had completely melted and that was the source of the smoke, so I removed the battery from the garage with a shovel to the driveway.
I called ryobi the next day to advise them of the battery incident and to find out why I haven't received a confirmation email for my battery replacement, for all I know at this point I'm not receiving a replacement.
The agent didn't seem too concerned with the fire and said they only combust when damaged and asked if I dropped it which I didn't the battery wasn't damaged. She confirmed there was an order to ship a replacement battery and apologized for not informing me.
I receive my replacement battery a week later, open it up and realize they sent the wrong battery. The battery that needed to be replaced was a 6ah battery and they sent a smaller 4ah battery. So yet again I call ryobi and advise they sent the wrong battery as a 4ah has less run time than a 6ah. The agent put me on hold, looked into the issue and advised the 6ah is backordered and that's why the 4ah was sent. I mean it would've been nice to advise me of this on my initial call instead of trying to deceive me with a different battery. Their solution to the issue was to send a 2ah battery so I will have a combined battery runtime of a 6ah when combined with the 4ah they already sent. I'm not happy with this solution as it requires more battery swaps while mowing as well as having 3 of the potentially combustible ryobi batteries in my garage as opposed to just 2, but I accepted their resolution and am currently waiting for my 2ah battery.
All-in-all it has been a complete disaster dealing with ryobi. I love the mower but would advise against buying one due to the battery issues and poor customer service.
Ryobi whipper snipper HOPELESS: AVOID at all costs
This so called "whipper snipper" takes 10 hours to recharge and operates, if you are lucky, for 20 minutes!!!! It is the most frustrating and useless piece of equipment I have ever been stupid enough to buy!
In addition, to remove the battery in order to recharge( after 20 mins only) you need hands like Goliath! My hands( &0 year old female) cannot span the area to release the springs and it takes all my energy- and expletives- to get the battery out!
I hate this product!!!!!
Ryobi Tools Are Unreliable and Support…
Ryobi Tools Are Unreliable and Support Is a Nightmare.
I’ve had nothing but problems with Ryobi’s trimmer and lawnmower—both purchased from Home Depot—and I regret ever buying them.
Lawnmower Failures (Twice!)The first mower broke after one use. Thankfully, it was still under the return policy and replaced. The second one worked briefly, then stopped mid-mow. Adjusting the handles helped for a moment, but it failed again. Contacting Ryobi and Home Depot was useless—I was sent to a dealer for repairs, and two weeks later, still no update.
Trimmer Troubles—Same Story, TwiceMy first trimmer’s spool stopped working. It was under warranty, so Home Depot replaced it. The second trimmer had the exact same issue, but this time the spool wasn’t covered. I was quoted nearly $100 for repairs, and it’s been over two weeks with no resolution.
Warranty Support Is a Black HoleThe mower was sent in for warranty service two weeks ago. No communication. No timeline. It feels like Ryobi is drowning in repairs—which says a lot about their product quality.
Final VerdictThis will be my last Ryobi purchase. Poor quality, unreliable tools, and a support system that’s slow and ineffective. Home Depot should reconsider selling these products. If you’re thinking about Ryobi—don’t. Save yourself the frustration.
Without a doubt the worst product I’ve…
Without a doubt the worst product I’ve ever purchased. The edger and the trimmer combo is an embarrassment. I literally threw it in the trash and will be purchasing ANYTHING else, for betterment. I’d rather edge and trim by hand than use this inferior product. Ryobi, what a joke…. You get what you pay for, and now I know why it’s so cheep. I should have known….
Bought a ryobi long pole hedge trimmer…
Bought a ryobi long pole hedge trimmer 1 week ago used twice . The battery lasts about 2 minutes and then stops . I then try to charge and it says battery too hot. Rang customer service which says is closed today but tried new sales that was working and guy said sorry they are closed ring back tomorrow . Awful.
Tired of poorly designed products...
I am so tired of buying what I believe to be quality equipment only to find out it's garbage. I bought a S430 trimmer just over a year ago. I use it once a week in the growing season. Now it will not stay running. After checking online it appears this is a common problem and the only solution is to rebuild the carburetor.
I have spent thousands on Ryobi products and am regretting it right now. All these companies seem to care about is cramming crap products in the market. There is no desire to build a quality, tested product.
I purchased an RYOBI weed wacker
I purchased an RYOBI weed wacker. It has never worked. The string keeps breaking. Shortly after my purchase my sister died so I missed my my return period at Home Depot.
30 days. Therefore I had to contact the company. They do not service their products. They want me to take my product 45 miles away from my home to be serviced by a third party. I can’t do that. I’m still stuck with a brand new product that has never worked. Home Depot need to drop this brand before they start getting a bad name.
Ryobi is crap
So I bought a Ryobi, electric mower on 5/10/2025. At the time of writing this review it is 7/25/2025. I've used the mower around the yard maybe four times. But with the Texas grass burrs, I decided to use the bagger, well the second time I use the bagger it tore at the seam. I contacted Ryobi they told me that was a perishable item and I would have to purchase it. Well considering it was the second time I'd used it the bag. And it tore it the seam and I've had the thing just a touch more than 60 days, I thought they should take care of that but no. That was the first Ryobi product in the last Ryobi product I will ever own. Took it back to Home Depot. Went and bought me a stil. Their warranties about as good as toilet paper.
