Bait-and-Switch Shipping & Failure to Refund

I purchased a chair with ottoman from Safavieh Home’s website in December with free shipping clearly advertised and confirmed at checkout. Two weeks after accepting full payment, Safavieh emailed me demanding an additional $180 shipping fee or they would cancel my order and promptly issue a refund. Safavieh claimed that the furniture was “fragile”, required special crating and the additional fee was also warranted due to a supposedly “remote delivery address.”

The fee they did not even match their own written shipping policy. My delivery address is a standard, easily accessible location, not “remote” by any reasonable definition.

When I chose to cancel and requested a refund, Safavieh did not issue it as promised. I was forced to recover my money through my credit card company.

This was a textbook bait-and-switch with poor customer service and unnecessary time expended to recover my money. Based on my experience, I would not trust Safavieh’s advertised pricing or post-purchase handling.

BEWARE

BEWARE: Who expects their customers to pay $70 return shipping on a $140 order? Safavieh does. This detail of their return policy is not clear or easy to find.

After 13 emails from me to them with maybe 5 responses and multiple phone calls I was told they would give me a $25 concession. They wouldn’t even send me a label. I have to do it.

Make sure you are ok paying for shipping yourself if you want to return your purchase!
