ALERT … ALERT … ALERT To all homeowners who are considering having a Safe - Step Walk-In Tub/Shower installed in your home. The text that follows outlines the problems we experienced with FILLING the tub with sufficient hot water.
According to Safe-Step, a full tub (by full I expect water above the top jets) will hold around 85 gallons of hot water. After you subtract your body weight for the displaced water (in my case it calculates to 10 gallons of displaced water), the amount of water needed to be at my chin is 75 gallons. Our current water heater is rated at 50 gallons and has a capacity to ‘deliver’ 45 gallons of hot water. Thus; we are SHORT by 30 gallons at best (75 gallons minus 45 gallons).
The conclusion in this scenario being; If you, as the customer, are told by your sales person that your 50 gallon hot water is adequate for your new tub, they are WRONG! YOU HAVE BEEN DECEIVED.
The questions you need to ask yourself might be;
#1). Do I call off the deal before I commit?
#2). Do I commit to spending an additional sum of money to upgrade my water heater? This could amount to at least another $4000. We have received ZERO response from ANYONE at Safe -Step (except for our salesperson who can’t even get his superiors to respond to him). It is left in our hands to get the correct phone numbers to call to actually speak to a person. Still working on this 2 months later.
We certainly hope that others out there do not fall into the same ‘trap’ as we did.
The hot water heater was installed in our NEW condo, 6 years ago. It is a Rheem Hybrid 50 gallon heater. I hardly believe that it is obsolete. Didn't you read the SECOND paragraph in my review. I think I outlined FAIRLY Well. Your (S-S) reply does not address the FACTS as I stated. Are they being refuted as false. I'd like to think 33 years working in Research that I know a little about Science. THE FACTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELF.

My wife was unable to safely use the tub due to her partial paralysis. This tub would probably be great for someone without her disability. I discussed the issue with the corporate office and we came to an amicable resolution. Because we have an oversized shower, there were only minor penetrations for the electrical and plumbing access which I repaired with very little effort; and, I removed the tub without damage to the tub or our walls. The tub pickup is pending the receipt of our signed release.

Safe Step truly sent their ‘A-Team’ to install our new walk-in tub, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. From the moment Leonardo, the electrician, arrived right on time just before 9 AM, to the final walkthrough with Sam and Henry, the expert installers, we felt completely at ease.
The team took the time to explain every step of the process before beginning, ensuring we knew what to expect. With their combined 14 years of experience, they worked seamlessly, leaving our home in the exact condition they found it—no mess, no stress. Leonardo expertly ran a dedicated electrical line from our basement fuse box to the second-floor bathroom, and you’d never even know they had been there. By 5 PM EST, the job was done, and we were guided through every feature of our new tub.
A huge thank you to everyone at Safe Step—from sales and administration to Leonardo, Sam, and Henry—for their professionalism and attention to detail. Other than my home and my spouse, this tub is the best investment we’ve made for our safety and comfort for years to come!

We couldn't be happier with our walk in shower. Ours was a challenging job to say the least but safe step handled it well. The installers were fantastic. The company it's self is were great to deal with and the product looks better than we thought it would.

Safe step is an outstanding company. I appreciated how they worked with my budget regarding purchase. Installment was excellent they went over features so I understood how my tub worked . I needed a few adjustments and the technicians were professional. Safe step honors their warranty. No questions . It was a challenge getting to a representative but I received help immediately. Excellent customer service by all members of the company. They can be trusted.

We've had our Safe Step Walk-in Tub since February 22, 2021 and we've been very happy with it. We had David Garcia come out to replace a hinge and he was very nice and respectful. He answered my questions and he was very knowledgeable. I've recommended Step Step to our neighbors and friends. Thank you!

Good product, poor follow up customer service. We had an unusable garden tub converted to a walk-in shower. We had used Safe Step previously to install a walk-in tub in another home and are satisfied with the product. During installation of the shower the technician failed to caulk the bottom guide for the sliding glass door. This let water run out on the floor. We called the salesman who referred us to customer service. We called customer service and were told that a service technician would call to schedule an appointment. A week later we went through the process again. It has now been over a month and we're still waiting for the call to schedule the appointment. We finally had the caulking done locally so we can use the shower.

It is a SCAM!!! I was very adamant that I wanted strong hydro jets in my walk-in tub! Made that point several times with the salesman. I did not want all the bells and whistles, just wanted a good jetted walk-in-tub ... but was told that there was no heater in the basic model. Both of my previous jetted tubs in my previous home had inline heaters and really good jets. He told me I would not have heat in the basic model. Also he showed me a video of him getting into and out of the tub via the door easily and he WAS a big guy at the time ( I did not even realize it was him from the video as he has lost weight). Was also told that their model was a better SEALING door as it was a INWARD opening door. He went down and lookekd at the electric and water heated and said all was good. A month later they showed up to install it and the electrician said I was probably going to need a new water heater ... I said I would wait and see. the installer got the tub in and then was showing me how everything worked and discovered that the "drain" function was not working properly. Then he was just going to leave and I said ... wait ... you better make sure the DRAIN PROBLEM is addressed NOW as opposed to me trying to get someone to come out later as this is my ONLY bathing facility in my house ?!?!?!?! He said yes and after TWO conferring phone conversations he apparently had the control board wiring hooked up wrong. So off he went. I get in the tub and it is pretty dang close and the door is really difficult to latch. I am a stong, in shape person and I am getting this tub ahead of the game as I have autoimmune issues and am now 62, but that door is difficult to close. I have had two other jetted tubs and three out door hottubs so I know how to direct the jets etc to optimize the jet power. I also was shown AND read the directions provided to me! BOY was I dissappointed! The jet power is super wimpy! Not even close to what I got on even the lowest setting on either of my previous indoor jetted bathtubs that cost under $2000 dollars each! What a total waste of money for over $20,000!!! So I called the electrician to report that my water heater appeared to be adequate (thank goodness!!) and mentioned to him that the jets were really worthless and he said the installer was on vacation, but I should probably call the salesman who sold it to me. I waited a couple of days for the installer to get back and called him and said well maybe the wires were still hooked up wrong or something, because I was just expecting so much more?! He told me the tub was working fine far as he was concerned and that I should call the salesman as well. So I called the sales man and he was flumoxed at that either of those guys would tell me to call him! He said that someone would be getting to back to me about my complaints in the next few days. So "Jennifer" called me and left a message and I called back 3 times and got her voice mail and I left a message. Then I called the sevice number department number she had left me in the original message and voiced my complaint about A) that I had scavanged my previous hand held shower head from the installer (thank goodness!) because their handheld shower head was WORHTLESS! I replaced it with my old one and it is SO MUCH BETTER! Then I voiced my complaint that for the price of that tub and the emphasis I had placed on having good hydrojet power that it was a bitter disappointment. She said well you are paying for the warranty and that they only sold "gentle" hydrotherapy in their tubs. I said BS ... that is not what I was "sold". She just kept ignoring what I was saying "blah" "blah" "blah". I got increasingly irritated and she said I was being "rude" ... well, they are just gaslighting you here for over $20,000. So BAD! She said there will be a tech getting ahold of me for a followup service visit, but that I 'got what I paid for'. THEN I found the customer reviews ... LOTS OF BAD REVIEWS!!! DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM SAFE STEP! TERRIBLE RIPOFF!!! High pressure on-the-spot misleading sales and BS sales and service followup. After reading the reviews I expect that my door will start leaking any minute. Worst investment I have ever made. Like one of the other people said ... I could have bought two BRAND NEW TRUCKS for what I paid for a joke of a jetted tub that does not really jet, the door is really difficult to close, it takes FOREVER to fill up and the company really does not care. Also the shower "curtain" is worthless and a mess and their "Customer Service" is pretty much nonexistent.

If I could give this, no Stairs, I would this company pray on seniors buyer beware. I purchased this based on what the sales person told me. I was told that they would go through the attic which they did and then they didn’t after they broke the frame to my attic, they then cut a hole in my ceiling and went through the ceiling And left a terrible mess along with paint everywhere. Their customer service is a joke. They tend to be rude and condescending everyone that was on my contract sheets no longer works for the company that should’ve been my first clue that there was a problem. I have a shower that doesn’t work a tub that fills slowly and empties slow slowly and I’ve had a plumber out here twice, who told me that they put the wrong connections in I have now spent an additional $4000 and still don’t have a working tub shower. Five months and I haven’t been able to use the shower

Reply from Safe Step Walk-In Tubs & Showers
Would give no stars if I could. Such as bad experience do not buy from these people. They installed my bath and water was scalding. It took a month before a plumber came to fix and the hot and cold faucets were around the wrong way. Now the plumber left and damaged my ceiling allowed water to run through and sealed bath so bad. Stay away from this company.

We bought a safe step tub because we were in our 70’s and the salesman told us it would improve our quality of life. It is the worst investment that we have ever made in our lives. We feel that we were taken advantage of. We thought this tub would be the answer to our prayers and instead it has truly been a nightmare. The door will not open most of the time. Our electric bill tripled the first month and we only filled it twice. Our water bill almost tripled. We don’t use it anymore because it is hard to sit in it and wait for the water to fill. It’s supposed to empty the water super fast, but it is super slow to drain. Also, we can’t afford the water and electric to fill it up. We have an 80 gallon water heater and it runs cold long before the tub is full enough to run the jets. You can’t stretch out in it and use the pillow provided because it is so short. Not comfortable at all. We would gladly trade it for a jacuzzi tub. We have over $20,000 invested and feel that we were ripped off. If anyone is interested in trading us for a simple jacuzzi tub, please get in touch. If the salesman had pointed out the negative parts of this tub, we wouldn’t be in this situation of having a huge investment that we get no benefit from. Beware if they come to your house-we feel it’s elder abuse.

I love the shower and the tub. I love the shower tub. It’s so safe. The people that came to put it in. Did a really good job. They were super nice. We have all my nieces and nephew here and they were super nice to them. They really did a phenomenal job. I really do love it. This is from Miranda Lappan
