Yet again Sail Checker Impresses!, and then some...
We rented in late July for one week a very nice 42FT Lagoon Catamaran from Lefkas in the Ionian(Greece). We were fortunate to have with us SailChecker's own Elpida, who was the best hostess - seeing to all of our needs and requirements before we even knew them. Thanks to her, we were able to have our provisions all set up, the ship brief taken care of early and so we were underway on the first day and enjoying the first night outside of the main port. The material condition of the boat was superb, however we noted the dingy could have been in better shape, as it almost stranded us several times. Two families of three (six total) really enjoyed this vessel and we'll be back to Sail Checker again! RHP

It was a fantastic trip! The boat was new and comfortable, everything was very nicely organized and our Skipper Polis was absolutely the best! He was knowledgeable, friendly and overall wonderful.

I had my first sailing holiday with this company. The agents answer your questions through the website. They're very helpful.
I had a small budget for this type of holiday, and very short time to arrange everything. Sailchecker took care of it nicely.
Since I didn't have much money the boat was -as expected- a bit old. But the owner was a very nice guy and the boat was been taken care of very well. Didn't look old at all.
The only unwell experience was a dead-battery problem, which was fixed in a few hours. Not to mention this is the fault of the boat owner, not the agent company.

Have nothing but amazing things to say about our sailing adventure in the Ionian sea. From the start Elpida was on top of things making sure we were completely organized before the trip even began. Once on board our skipper, Polis, was amazing. Several of us had been on sailing adventures before and everyone agreed that this was the best one yet. We all learned so much about sailing. While our trip was pretty short (only four nights) Polis and Elpida helped ensure that everything was maximized to the fullest. We had such an amazing time, swimming, snorkeling, catching sea urchins, fishing, and even sailing the boat (everyone hoisting the sails and steering the craft)! We made memories that will certainly last a lifetime. Can't wait to go again next year!

We are a family of 4 from New Zealand and organised through Sailchecker the most fabulous sailing holiday in Greece. We bare boat chartered a yacht from Levkas and sailed the Southern Ionian. Our kids (18 and 14 yr old) said "it was the best holiday ever"! We had a lovely boat, the sailing was perfect - some adventures, some great wind but never over 25 knots, amazing clear waters, and most evenings we were eating out at a beautiful taverna!
I can not compliment Elpida Barbaresou (our Sailchecker contact) enough - she was absolutely wonderful and really went above and beyond with everything, from advice on where to fly, to booking taxi's etc If we ever had a question we would e-mail; her replies were always very timely and her answers spot on! Our only regret was that we never met her in person!
Thank you Sailchecker and especially Elpida, we would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone. Hope we will use you again in the future.

My family had a great experience of Sailchecker. Prompt answers to all my questions, a good choice of yachts and friendly service. Our skipper, Polis, was courteous, extremely professional and charming. All-in-all a great service and lovely holiday.

Good service with flexible options

I had slightly challenging requirements in that my charter was not traditional "Saturday to Saturday" and SailChecker were the only company that could meet my requirements and were prepared to be flexible.

Their charges were competitive and they honoured a promised discount despite me missing a payment deadline.

Saichecker offered me a variety of boats of different levels of "luxury, size and price" Having chosen my boat, it was a simple process to lodge crew information, upload my license and make payments.

The boat that I ended up with was better than I expected, and the Charter company (Ultra) were fantastic, I have no complaints.

The holiday was excellent, but that's got nothing to do with SailChecker, however, they did recommend the location.

I'd happily use them again.

First sailboat rental in Croatia and Sailchecker made it exceptional.

We had exceptional service and without the good advice we got from Elpida at SailChecker we would never have dared to sail with such a new fleet operator in Croatia.
In terms of dealing with Sail Checker, I have to admit we where a little skeptical as we had not really heard about Sail Checker and we actually worried wether it was all legit, but from now on whenever we are searching for a sailing trip we will contact them.

They where so patient in responding to all my inquiries and worries.
We were truly impressed with the destination and the boat we had at Ploce sailing. Furthermore the service and attention we got from Ploce sailing, Théo and his staff was amazing ! (Mate was exceptional in welcoming us and making sure every detail was taken care of for us) . They where super accomodating and dedicated to responding to our needs.The boat was in top shape and was wonderful to sail.
I have rented elsewhere and must admit they beat them all.
While Ploce is a somewhat industrial harbour, it is the best place to leave from as it is centrally located. It is only an hour's sail to a beautiful little harbour (Tripanj). In fact we spent our last night in Tripanj and where able to return the boat for 8am the next day.
All in all a great experience !

Rented a 40 ft. boat out of Stockholm.
Overall good Level of personal assistance by SailChecker. This is "a real company with real people" (not merely a website charter aggregator). My various queries prior to concluding the charter were all promptly addressed.
The boat owner commented that they had not received the crew list in advance - but that may well be the boat owners lack of follow-up as well (they could have chased it from SailChecker if it was an issue).
There were some miscommunication about delivery/redelivery-times, but SailChecker quickly resolved that issue with the boat owner when I informed them about this. The boat that we booked had suffered a technical breakdown just prior to delivery, and we were offered a substitute boat instead (2 feet larger, one year older, but all in proper condition) - so that case was handled appropriately by the boat owner (with no involvement from SailChecker I believe). The boat was properly equiped and in good condition.
I'd wish that the website provided more technical details and offered a possibility to filter searches based on particular features/equipment. Moreover, it should be a requirement that all photos are actual and recent (not merely catalogue photos or other generic photos). Something to work on for future improvements. I'd be happy to work with SailChecker again.

Very knowledgeable staff with wide reach in the market, getting good boats at good prices. We found a full equipped boat at a decent price on a busy weekend. Only improvement is integration of docs with the renting company/individual

I highly recommend Sailchecker. Kate and her colleagues provided a great service. The website system used to manage the booking was logical and easy to use. Everything with the yacht hire (from Athens) went without a hitch and the charter company selected by Sailchecker (Vastardis) was very professional and helpful. They only provide relatively new boats and the one we hire was exceptional!

I've no hesitation in recommending Sailchecker or Vastardis.

I am afraid I cannot recommend Sailchecker or the incompetent yacht charterer they listed on their site. Apologies for the length of this review but it is important that potential customers know of my negative experience with Sailchecker.

Sailchecker's home page says "search, find and book quality yacht charter".

Search and find was straightforward like any one of the many yacht charter search websites.

Booking was a bit more complicated as my first payment to secure the booking was returned by Sailchecker's bank. Apparently the account was being changed or moved. This issue was resolved but did not increase my confidence in Sailchecker, wasted some of my time and meant I had to speak to the bank directly to make sure I was not being scammed. No issues with the second payment.

Meanwhile, the take-over time of 12.00 was changed to 17.00 without reference to me and more correspondence was required to sort this out.

I filed my crew list, skipper's certificate etc on my Sailchecker account page and received emails confirming everything was in order. Three days before the charter the yacht owner contacts me to say they have not received the complete information. Yet more time and effort to resolve this issue. On this occasion, I sent emails to Sailchecker and made phone calls to their various numbers (including Greece, where my charter customer service person is based). Absolutely no response at all. D minus for service.

The final element of Sailchecker's service promise was a quality charter. In this aspect our experience was especially negative.

On arrival in Montenegro we found the Y-40 Vagabund chartered from Navigator Montenegro. This yacht was inadequately maintained; engine oil level barely on the dipstick, no coolant in the expansion vessel, no flotation aid, flares 10 years out of date etc etc. We ordered an outboard for the charter but it was not on the yacht and we had to wait 3 1/2 hours for it to arrive. The owners suggesting that we paid for the extra marina fees ourselves.

The windlass bolts had not been checked and the windlass worked loose. This problem they tried to blame on us when it obvious that the lock nuts had not even been tightened. When sailing, annoyingly it was not possible to get any tension on the main halyard because the halyard was so worn at the jammer so the main set like a sack of potatoes. The owner Mishko was agressive and unpleasant to deal with.

Sailchecker says it delivers a quality yacht charter but it listed this charter company without even having met them or seen their yachts. There is obviously no quality control at all at Sailchecker to support their claim of a quality yacht charter. They do have a rating system for charters on the site but it is not functioning so I could not leave feedback on this charter on the Sailchecker site.

After the charter, I heard nothing from Sailchecker until I posted a negative review. Then Chris complained that I had not raised the charter issues with him at the time. Firstly, it would not have made any difference - he could do nothing about a badly maintained and potentially dangerous yacht. Secondly, I had already spent £50 on phone calls to the charter company trying to sort out various issues and my phone limit had topped out.

Chris has responded.
1. That I should not expect the same level of safety spec in Montenegro as elsewhere. I checked this. The Montenegro safety rules for this class of boat are easily available online and this yacht breaks many of them.

Since my first unfavorable review was submitted. Chris has taken a less pleasant approach.
He now says that the owner says I caused significant damage to the transom. This is categorically untrue and neither Sailchecker or the yacht owner can provide any evidence of damage to the transom. The yacht owner inspected the yacht at hand back and found absolutely no damage to the transom.

This false accusation only arose after I submitted a negative review of Sailchecker and Navigator Montenegro. I can only assume that Chris is trying to discredit me by making this false accusation.

And finally, Chris told me that Navigator Montenegro was no longer an approved operator for Sailchecker. I checked the Sailchecker site a week later and the unsafe, poor quality Y-40 Vagabund is still listed!

That tells me all I need to know about Sailchecker.

I had the pleasure of winning a sailing trip to Greece with sailchecker. My husband and I spent 6 days with the sailchecker team. We were really impressed with their knowledge and relationships with the boat owners, marinas etc. We would thoroughly recommend using them if you are planning a sailing holiday. I look forward to going on a holiday with them again soon.
